Re: Official San Francisco 49ers thread

I am not totally sold on Jonas Jennings. I get the "privelege" of watching almost every Bills game on TV and I don't know if he is that much of an upgrade over Harris. Only time will tell. I thought they should have went after Joe Andruzzi and reports are saying Wahle might be signing with the Panthers. That still leaves DeMulling of the Colts as an option at guard though. Hopefully they get some more help on defense.

I REALLY REALLY hope Niners land either Gary Baxter or Ed Hartwell. They are both very talented at their positions and they know Nolan well. But if i had to pick i would rather have Baxter come, Our LB core is pretty decent already with Ulbrich, Peterson and Smith.

I love GB, but with the niners going to a 3-4 defense, they'll be needing depth at the LB position.. Hartwell is a quick guy and would fit right into the defense. Either way, I'd be happy with either of them

Looks like Gragg will be the odd man out now. I think the line will play a lot better this year than last. They now have a true LT and Harris can move to his more natural position of RT. We get back our pro-bowl center and just need Smiley and some other guy to man the guard spots. Why do I think that with the signing of a quality LT that the Niners are going to draft either Smith or Rogers with the top pick.

                    Rumph moving to saftey?

In the new makeover of the 49ers, the team is giving serious consideration to moving cornerback Mike Rumph to free safety, where he could fill a major void and allow the Niners to focus on getting another top corner prospect high in the draft. “But I don’t know how that sits with the player,” said coach Mike Nolan, who has yet to discuss the switch with the fourth-year veteran. “But it is something that will be discussed.” It’s also something that could set off a chain reaction in the secondary.

Andre Dyson is still available as a free agent. They could also get a good corner in the 2nd or 3rd round. I think they will have to add some depth at CB if they move Rumph.

                                Preseason Opponents Announced

A home contest against the Oakland Raiders and a trip to Denver highlights the 49ers 2005 preseason schedule. Also included in the exhibition slate is a home game with the Tennessee Titans and a road trip down the California coast for the annual preseason match up with the San Diego Chargers.
