I'm pumped for this game. I have a feeling that the Niners are a team that plays to their competition. So I hope we elevate our game against the Steelers. Can't wait for the weekend.

If the Niners win this one, they will def get some people talking.

Hopefully the offense can get on track, but the Steelers D is going to be tough!

It should be on Fox. NFC teams on the road are always on FOX, CBS for AFC teams on the road.

If Nolan thinks he can use the Ravens strategy -- tough defense while offense manages the game -- he could be in for a rude awakening.

Steelers have punished the Ravens in recent years and our defense isn't as good as the Ravens.

We can't keep gaining only 200 yards and leaving the defense out there most of the game. They will break down and we don't have the depth.

But really, we don't have the playcalling or the personnel to do more on offense either. Our WRs haven't demonstrated they could punish teams for blitzing relentlessly. At least Bryant was getting behind the defense a few times early last season, keeping teams somewhat honest.

We need tougher receivers to go over the middle too. And I'm not talking about VD trying to break tackles after a short catch against a half dozen tacklers. That guy is going to be injury prone fighting for an extra yard. It's one thing to try to run over a DB but when he's getting gang-tackled by linemen and LBs, it's foolish.

Yeah I checked it's Fox. I just hope they don't give me the Eagles game. Since I am in Texas I usually get NFC East games .

                  Lawson out for year. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3029152

I yelled a few expletives when I heard this. I thought he had been playing well in the first two games so far. It's a big blow to the pass rush.

More like big blow to more than pass rush. Lawson had a decent couple of games and was on his way to developing into a great OLB. Even his coverage skills were decent. Yeah there was a thread on the main page of Pro Football about this.

The real problem with his injury is you become more predictable on defense. The Niners do not have a guy like Lawson that can come on the blitz or drop back into coverage on the TE. They have two or three guys that can fill the total role of Lawson, but when an opposing offense see's of of them they will have a better idea what the defense is going to do. He was really showing big improvement over last season and this is a setback for not only him but the entire defense. I think Naives will start in his place but expect to see a whole host of guys play the position.

The 9ers offense showed some life today. However, there are still big holes to be filled. O-line needs work, as well as the receiving core. Alex Smith might need to trust his O-line a little bit more, maybe step up into the pocket instead of scrambling backwards to avoid defenders. I didn't see that many screen plays called today. I really can only remember one.

9ers are still atop the division, hopefully they can continue their success against the Seahawks next week at home. Gore needs a breakout game badly.

Gore needs one but Alex Smith needs to put together a solid game even more. He has been inconsistent, makes plays here and there that show his potential and then follows it up by scrambling from the pocket when its not needed and forcing the ball thus leading to a turnover. Not sold on Darrell Jackson either, doesnt seem to go 100% all the time, Lelie hasnt shown anything other then not running crisp routes, outside of Vernon's showing today and Battle giving 110% all the time, I really dont like our receiving core much either.

I think the 9ers should go to spread offense. The extra space should give Alex Smith more time, and the spread offense looked decent against the Steelers when they went with it.

Brandon Williams got cut, and the 9ers signed Michael Lewis to replace him. So we have 2 Michael Lewis' now, lol.

Well, our season is pretty much over. Say hello to 4-12. Alex Smith is going to need surgery on his right shoulder and will be out for the season. Considering that Smith was injured in his rookie season and is not out for the year, makes you wonder if Rodgers would have done any better. Probably not but definitely brings up the "what if". Oh well.

By the way, great move Nolan by letting Peterson leave as an UFA in 2006. He's a pass rusher and gee, what does our defense need the most that it doesnt have??? Oh, that's right, it's a legitimate pass rusher.

And dont say that Lawson would have solved that problem because as much as I like him, the coaches would much rather put him in coverage instead of rushing the passer.

Yep, im one happy 49ers fan.
