Re: How's Your GM Mode Going?

The problem I ran into is that an ~.850% SV for goalies means that they will actually regress each season. Howard's terrible SV% and GAA made him drop from an 89 to an 86, and Gustavsson went from an 82 to a 78. I didn't re-sign Gustavsson, Howard is noticeably worse in consecutive seasons, and Mrazek's stats are brutal despite his winning record as an NHL starter this year and his improved overall (jumped to 88 after spending year one "in the system").

The broken goaltending is also detrimental to your entire roster's +/-, and I had several defencemen regress and/or fail to improve. I ran a few simmed GM modes with different teams and noticed similar results, some more severe and some less, but always ridiculous goaltending.

I play on Superstar/Hardcore. I win far too often, because goalkeeping is whack on both sides. It is noticeably superior on the CPU side, though, regardless of sliders. I can't fix it, and see no point to a GM Mode where goaltenders are doomed to fail.

Re: How's Your GM Mode Going?

So far I have simulated 4 seasons because I want to play with the players that are currently the real prospects in the NHL and the players that I personally have drafted in the game.

I'm playing with the Buffalo Sabres because they're in complete rebuild mode and I'm from Buffalo. Over the 4 seasons I've simulated I have drafted some MAJOR TALENT. I also have made some key trades. I don't use free agency much unless I need a depth player, but free agency doesn't offer much talent in this game at all.

Now in my 5th season I will begin to play, as many of my first round picks are developed and ready to go. Here are my lines, I will explain how I acquired the guys that weren't already on the Sabres.

      *** = PLAYERS I WILL EXPLAIN

      Line 1

LW SIMON GRENIER*** C SAM REINHART RW DUSTIN BROWN***

      Line 2

LW BRAD MARCHAND*** C TYLER ENNIS RW WILLIAM CARRIER ***

      Line 3

LW MARCUS FOLIGNO C ZEMGUS GIRGENSONS RW NICK BAPTISTE***

      Line 4

LW MATT CALVERT*** C BRADY VAIL*** LW PAUL BITTNER ***

NOTE: I often move players from line to line

      Defensive Pairing 1

      MARK PYSYK TYLER MYERS

      Defensive Pairing 2

      RASMUS RISTOLAINEN*** NIKITA ZADOROV***

      Defensive Pairing 3

      WILLIAM HANKINSON*** JAKE MCCABE***

Simon Grenier- drafted 3rd overall in 1st round of the 2017 draft. This is first season actually playing. Currently is a 77 overall.

Dustin Brown- During my most recent offseason I acquired Brown from the Kings in exchange for Matt Moulson, a prospect and a 1st round pick. He's 33 years old now but I needed a veteran and captain.

Brad Marchand- Also during my most recent offseason I acquired Marchand from the B's for Chris Stewart and a 2nd round pick. I was shocked they accepted this as he is only 30 years old.

William Carrier- Simple. Key player involved in the Ryan Miller trade. Currently is an 81 overall and only 23 years old.

Nick Baptiste- Real prospect of the Sabres. Currently is an 84 overall and he is only 23 years old.

Matt Calvert- During my first season, I acquired him from the Blue Jackets in exchange for Mike Weber.

Brady Vail- drafted 13th overall in the first round of the 2015 draft. This is his second season in the pros and is currently an 80 overall.

Paul Bittner- drafted 8th overall, also in the first round of 2015 draft. He is 1 of my 3 first round picks in that year (Brady Vail and Nicolas Roy). This too is his second season in the pros and is currently an 79 overall.

Ristolainen/Zadorov/McCabe- all real prospects with Sabres

William Hankinson- drafted 22nd overall in the first round of 2018 draft (most recent draft). Currently is an 79 overall.

I've had huge success drafting. These draft picks you see are just some of the talent I have. The other talent in my system that I personally drafted are:

      C Nicolas Roy (2015 1st round) 79 overall
      D Brendan Tambellini (2017 1st round) 78 overall
LW Rihards Bukarts (2015 4th round) 76 overall
RW Gabriel Gagne (2015 2nd round) 76 overall
LW Francis Beauvillier (2015 6th round) 76 overall
RW Julien Gauthier (2016 1st round) 75 overall

Along with these players are other real prospects the actual Sabres have drafted as well as my other picks that I haven't signed yet. As you can see I mainly have my first few seasons of first round picks up and ready to go. Basically I love to build teams through drafting. I use some trading and I rarely use free agency.

As much as EA has BUTCHERED be a gm mode, I have tried to make the best out of it. One thing that's lame is, the CPU has very few of their draft picks up in the NHL. Connor McDavid, who is an 89 overall drafted obviously first overall in 2015, is still in the minors. Just doesn't make any sense.

PLayed all 82 games, 12 min quarters with Pittsburgh. Won my first 2 playoff series 4-3. Now playing Florida in the East finals. They are 2-0 up after 2 OT wins. The second one was SH. I was ready to turn my disc into a frisbee.

Re: How's Your GM Mode Going?

I just got the game and started a GM with Calgary for a nice little challenge. I wasn't expecting to get scored on 6 times in the first period against Vancouver... I ended up losing 7-3 with equal SOGs, Vancouver scored all of their 1st period goals within 2 minutes of each other.

I then played great against Chicago (I only play once every three games or else I would never make it through a season). I had a 2-1 lead with 40 seconds left in the game and then Hjalmarsson scored quickly after the face-off in my end and then Kane came down after the center-ice face-off and won the game with 8 seconds left... Oh well, at least it was Chicago.

I played one more game against Carolina and lost in OT, because I guess stopping Eric Staal is impossible in the slot for my computer's defense.

And then I ran into another horrible game where Montreal scored 6 1st period goals (again, all within 2 minutes of each other). I scored a quick one in the 2nd and then Montreal responded with another 3 goals... are you f***ing kidding me... I score another goal late in the 2nd to make the game 9-2 but the comp decides that's not enough for them and scores twice more in the 3rd (on was f***ing SH) to go up 11-2 and then they let me score 2 garbage goals... Stats from the game:
          SOGs: CGY 37-MTL 38
          Hits: CGY 13-MTL 27
          TOA: CGY 8:48-MTL 6:39
          Passing: CGY 71%-MTL 79%
          Penalty Min: CGY 13:00-MTL 11:00
          Power Plays: CGY 4-MTL 4
          PP Minutes: CGY 5:46-MTL 4:17
          Faceoffs Won: CGY 23-MTL 19

          Sorry this was so long.

*I play 10 minute periods with some All-Star hardcore sliders just so ya know*

Carolina just scored 4 goals on me in the 1st period now... with 16 SOGs... the CPU is RELENTLESS.

            Edit: Lost 8-1... wow...

Re: How's Your GM Mode Going?

                Just had an amazing moment.

Been playing a Pens season. Played all 82, 12 min periods. I went down 3-1 to Florida in the East finals. I won 2 games to force a game 7.

In the 3rd period I was looking good. 4-2 up.

Then I gave up 2 dumb goals. They scored another to go 5-4 up with 2 mins to go. 2 months of hard work was going down the drain.

Ive traded for St Louis. He snuck by a big slow defender along the boards, cut to the middle and launched past the goalie's glove to tie it at 5 with 30 seconds left. I yelped.

OT happened. I gave up a dumb penalty. They peppered. Fleury held out. Just. Finally they gave up a penalty. I get the puck on goal, there is a skirmish, Im mashing the right stick. Finally I see Sidney Crosby raise his hands jubilantly to the sky and hear the commentator say its over.

I jump off my couch, do a white man's jig

                Awesome, awesome moment.

At the "All Star Break" but can't play the game of course. Sitting at 34-11-2 with the LA Kings.

Toffoli and Doughty injured for me. Drew should be back after 2 more games. Toffoli should be back the following week.

Ottawa Senators sit 25-15-4 at this point, second in the division. Had almost perfect streak of wins a few games ago, now some downshift going. Played every single game with own sliders. I enjoy a lot!!

so before the season starts im thinking about making a few moves to the Jackets, im looking to dump Anisimov, Horton or Hartnell maybe Jack Johnson, but looking to add say for example a ROR and John Carlson type return. would also be open to moving Oliver Bjorkstrand and Marko Dano as far as prospects go.

any ideas? and which would be better to move Horton or Hartnell?

Personally I wouldn't be keen on moving Bjorkstrand or Dano. I think they are just disgusting players. Honestly, I'm a pretty big Hartnell fan, and I haven't been too impressed with Horton since he went to Columbus. Coupled with his possible career ending injury, I'd move Horton and Anismov over Hartnell and trade a second round pick instead of Bjorkstrand or Dano. Hope this helps, I'm really interested to see how your trades turn out. Good luck with the season.

I started a new BeaGM with the 11/7 rosters. Lost our opener 3-2 to the Rangers, Paajarvi had both goals for us. We had many chances though but Lundqvist was stellar in goal for the Rangers. Next up is Calgary at home.

Started a new GM Mode with Phoenix and did a couple trades.

Traded Vermette and a 3rd to St Louis for their 2016 1st.

Traded Shane Doan, Sam Gagner, Michael Stone, 2015 2nd, 2016 1st and got Victor Hedman,Vladimir Namestnikov, Eric Brewer and Anton Stralman.
