    NHL 14 Roster Tools

Other thread was getting messy so decided to create a dedicated thread.

    EA Sports NHL DB Patcher

It will extract your Xbox 360 or PS3 roster file and repack it. I haven't tested the 360 function as I don't have a 360 so let me know if it works. For PS3 you need to use bruteforce save data and decrypt the save file. Backup your save and copy the decrypted SYS-DATA to another location. You can then make changes using the other tool called Generic EA DB Viewer, and use the XML file I made. Feel free to keep editing the XML so that we can see all fields.

    New - For PS3 Be A GM:
Select the folder where DATA files are. SYS-DATA will be created - select it in new window to extract. When patching use SYS-DATA file that was created in extraction process to patch.

    Version 1.20
    Version 1.10
    Version 1.00

For X360, you need Horizon and extract the roster file first. Follow demolitionman's instructions.

Okay, this seems to simplify everything substantially, but I still don't know how to do the basics that get me started.

HOW, exactly, do you use bruteforce save data to decrypt the save file? Also, the OP says that the tool will extract (and repack) the roster file. What is the difference between extracting it and decrypting it? What order do I do these in? I'm assuming extract it first, then use brute force to decrypt it (don't know how exactly I do that), then open it in the database editor. Also, what do I do with the XML? Do I need that? I thought the configuration I wanted to use was already included when I downloaded the DB editor.

I won't even bother asking about repacking the file until I actually get somewhere near that point in the process.

Wow, I go away for the weekend, I come back, and see this. Awesome work!! Just curious, would this make it possible to create a work around for the cap limit?

            Pppffff... cap limit?!?!?

You don't even need to make caps, just paste over a fake EA player.

Or did you mean the money cap? In that case it should because you are supposed to be able to edit contracts, but haven't seen that in any screenshots yet.

It's been a long drive back from Guelph, probably the reason why I didn't think to just paste over another player. But having said that, is it possible to change generic cyberfaces?

Out of curiosity, since I haven't been able to make any progress teaching myself to be computer/code literate yet, has anyone figured out if we can change existing players' faces? Just wondering if we can assign a different generic face that's more appropriate, which would absolutely make my year.

... I really need to figure out how to use this editor.

I can confirm the editor works with NHL13. You don't even need to use my tool. Only thing you need to do is remove the PS3 header on the decrypted SYS-DATA (offset 0 - 2B).

EDIT: To expand on that, after editing you'll need to re-add the header and calc the BZIP2 + CRC32 hash.

DPyro- You are much appreciated. I am new to Hext Editing, have only done modding in the past. I have to say I have no idea how to remove the headrer in the SYS-DATA. I have decrypted it using BruteForce Save Data the tryied to offzip -a the file and get nothing from that to work with I have HexEdit on my computer so I don't know if I have to do something in there or not, perhaps youi could help me out. If you don't mind helping me out a little bit and if I can figure this out for NHL13 I will write up a real nice walkthrough and hopefully you won't have to keep answering these questions.

Edit - I opened HexEdit and deleted the top all the data starting from offset 00-2b then saved the file. I am still having issues getting offzip to extract the data from the file once it is decrypted and the header has been removed, using offset.exe -a input folderoutput 0. Gettying multiple small .dat files (100 KB max).

So, today's a new day. If anyone is supremely generous, has ample free-time and really gets this stuff, but can put themselves in the shoes of someone who absolutely does not, a step-by-step guide to using DPyro's awesome tools, in layman's terms, would be more than appreciated. Just think, words like decrypt and such are like a foreign language. Instead just say "click here or this". lol

Just wanna say that a roster file is not the only thing that the DB editor can open. For NCAA/Madden it can be a tuner, dynasty (BAGM, BAP, BAL, GMC), profile (Lots of goodies here, sounds, hidden sliders), HUT, and probably some hockey card stuff. And each one is a different xml with different headers. I encourage people to check these out on top of figuring out the roster xml.

Alright, so my apologies for being out of the loop here, but from what it looks like we're 90% done a roster editor for NHL 14 that would allow us to edit everything EA has the ability to edit right?

Well DPyro i can tell you your db packer tool worked for xbox.
I was able to extract the db and view it in the editor.
                              TY sir.
Haven't really tried editing yet was just poking around.
I only see 3 tabs in the editor:
                              Teams,players,arenas.
                              is that how it is?
