The first home game of the year probably won't even be a sellout, unless they drop those $20 ticket + parking + a hotdog and drunk deals even further....

I'd mug and old lady for prices like that to Oiler games, my god.

      Are you serious???

Well that's one way to show your support for the team.
I think the people of Phoenix are completely apathetic about this situation and would actually desire the team move more than stay.

I wonder if attendance like this would help Ballsillie's bid?

Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie has pledged to keep the Phoenix Coyotes in Glendale this season if he wins an auction for the financially troubled club.
Judge Redfield T. Baum, who called Balsillie's proposal "a fairly significant change."
I honestly don't know how the Judge can't sell the team to J.B.
The NHL has said they'll relocate the team if no local ownership wants the team just like Ballsillie.

The team has been available to anyone who wants to keep the team local and no bids have been put forth. NONE.
The team is losing money and several witnesses and financial experts (even the NHLs) have said that Glendale isn't a good hockey market.

So if the NHL says they'll move the team in 1 year and Ballsillie says he'll keep the team there this season and then move it, why on earth would Baum choose the NHL's bid over his?

I still think he'll say 'no sale' but if he is going accept an offer I don't know how he can't take JB's.

The NHL keeps saying that Reisendorf and Ice Edge will negotiate with the NHL if they get it and keep it in Glendale but how much of that is true?
And how do we know those owners haven't told the NHL "we're out of here after one season".

If you look at all the facts, including the only two bids, it's crystal clear JB's is the best offer for everyone involved.

Agreed, did you hear Eugene Melnyk slip up the other day on PTS? The Balsillie group used that interview as a basis for a motion and there's a hearing scheduled for today based on it. (I dunno if it happened yet) Balsillie has a new lawyer (some guy named Kessler) and they're switching from the antitrust argument to one of the NHL acting on bad faith against JB.

That argument looks a lot better then trying to go through the tricky maze of antitrust but it might be too little too late however seeing that JB will keep the team in Glendale for a year might change things substantially in his favor.

The Coyotes have dropped their prices for opening night. Any seat in the lower bowl will be $25 and any ticket in the upper bowl is only $15

The official National Hockey League website including news, rosters, stats, schedules, teams, and video.

I think it costs more to park outside of GM Place for a Canucks game than to sit behind the Coyotes bench on opening night.

Could you paraphrase what Melnyk said on PTS?

                Re: Broke Yotes!!

When asked if there'd be territorial rights if a team moved to Hull, Quebec Melnyk said he believes there's territory rights for that (which run counter to what the NHL has been saying regarding this issue)

That's the main thing tho he was also asked about exhibition games in another team's territory and he said there'd have to be permission granted. He went on to explain about a proposed game he had in mind for the Sens and St. Mike's Majors at Copps which was vetoed by the Leafs.

BTW I know it's not kosher to post after your last post but it has nothing to do with my reply to Hank there:

Gretzky steps down as Coyotes coach

I feel bad for the guy he's name has been dragged through the mud in this whole thing and if the NHL gets the team they're not even going to compensate him in any way shape or form.

Gretzky was a guy who never had controversy stick to him but this is a totally different beast.

                    Thank you.

Man, I wonder just how much power the Leafs have in the NHL. They might have as much, or more, as the Yankees wield in baseball.

There's going to be an article in the Globe and Mail tomorrow by Paul Waldie on Gretzky's contract and how he strong armed the Coyotes into giving him all that money. It'll be an interesting read. I'll post a link tomorrow in this space.

Very interesting. I've heard so many people who believed Wayne was thurst into coaching the Coyotes as he didn't want that kind of responsibility.

But it sure sounds like Wayne wanted to have all the power of owning a team without actually having to spend any of his own money.

I love Wayne. He'll always be one of my favorite players. But off the ice he was the worst Coach in the NHL by far. And the fact that he was making $8M/year while accumulating a less than .500 record for 4 years really should've let everyone know that he was calling the shots the whole time.
I mean, what other rookie coach would have survived that kind of record?
Heck, some coaches get fired after 14 months of service despite having a winning record!
