What's the prediction for the paid attendance of Home Game Number 2 for the Coyotes? I'm going with 3500.

No actually some people are giving updates from the hearing right now. In a nutshell the judge has basically said the league can have the team if they can work out payment to Gretzky and Jerry Moyes (the two creditors left off the NHLs bid).

    Yancy

PS Balsillie's bid was rejected "with prejudice;" so he's done. judge also mentioned Balsillie would have had to pay $794,663,034 to break the lease with the City of Glendale.... billion dollars for a hockey team... don't think so.

Judge said the NHL could "easily" fix their bid and negotiate payoffs to Gretzky and Moyes. NHL would then be granted ownership.

Oh well, time for Balsille to go after Tampa Bay now.

Seriously, the NHL should just give the man a team and be done with it.

Why? The NHL has no interest in having law-abiding owners with deep pockets and an insatiable love for the sport. That would be ludicrous.

Bring on Vegas, KC, Albuquerque and Compton! Those are solid markets. But they also need solid owners. Now if only the NHL could find a way to get Bernard Madoff out of jail so he can own a team.

But in case they can't they should put as much money as possible into the hands of those rich Nigerian princes who have their money locked away.
The NHL would be stupid NOT to invest in that!

Just after the ruling came down Fox Sports Arizona signed a TV deal with the Coyotes. That's good news.

Well I spoke too soon as Balsillie sent a press release that all but made him sound like he's given up the ghost.

Gary you've won the war but in doing so you're now the most hated sports figure in Canada.

            Congratulations!

              That's good.

I just hope the fans in Glendale realize what they have and start supporting this team.
The Coyotes have a good young team and now they have a very good coach. There's no reason this team can't make the playoffs.
So start coming out and supporting your team.

The game was played before an announced crowd at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale of 6,899, with the real attendance approximately 5,000.

The Coyotes played before a sellout crowd of 17,561 in their home debut on Saturday, the result of rewarding their fans with ticket discounts after the saga in the offseason that has put the club's future in doubt.

Ed Jovanovski scored at 3:37 of overtime to give the Phoenix Coyotes a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.

Will those $25 lower bowl seats be available all year long?

If I can find a cheap flight from Detroit to Phoenix I might take my wife on a nice little trip and catch a game.

They should do that. It will get people into the building to spend money on concessions and maybe merchandise. It's not going to turn around overnight. We need an owner in place and we need to be at least 10 games above .500 for people to start taking notice down here. There should be a nice crowd this Saturday for Boston and then on Thursday for Detroit. Then we have another weekend game next Saturday against Anaheim. You can't market a team with no budget to work with.

Well if the Yotes keep playing the way they have the first couple of weeks, fans will jump back on the bandwagon.

Over 16,000 at last night's game against the Kings. You put a winner in Phoenix and people will show up.

There's always a new flavor of the month around here. Everyone is a Cardinals fan again, Suns too. ASU football had their moment a few years ago. If every pro and college team had a losing record, there will be a lot of empty stadiums/arenas in this area. Granted a good portion of the local population is from other areas and have kept their original allegiances, but Phoenix really is a fickle, front-running fan base.

Figured I'd bump this. Basically to sum up the recent events:

-Glendale city council just passed the (ridiculous) lease agreement
-Greg Jamison, Phoenix's supposed savior, is still reported to be $100-$120 million short and is having trouble finding any additional investors
-The Goldwater Institute, the public interest company that's been calling out Glendale on their shenanigans, has filed a suit against the city

In other words, dis gon be good.
