I mean, I get the trade based on the clear differences in the players. But when you have a talent like Subban, you build around him. He's an offensive defensemen, so you surround him with defensively responsible forwards or defensive defensemen. Instead they wanted to fit his round peg in to their square hole.

I'm so sick of coaches taking players who have special talents, even more so then the average pro, and neutering them by forcing them in to systems they're incompatible with. Montreal knew what Subban was! They signed him to a large contract extension. Yet they're getting rid of him because their retread coach didn't like the way he played? It's just amazing to me that they'd rather side with a coach that is entirely replaceable then hang on to their rare talent.

With that said, Weber ain't chopped liver. This guy has been a top 3 defensemen over the last few years. But wrapping up so much money in a guy who is 30 and plays a very physical game seems foolish. But it's exactly what they wanted. Congrats.
I have never been a Michel Therien fan and I'm even less of one now.
I'm convinced that he's a major reason for Subban being traded.
Like you said, he's trying to strap a plow to a racehorse.
Let him skate! He's one of the most exciting players in the game today and they want to make him a robot who only takes chances on a PP.
This is one of the major issues I have with NHL hockey today. To think they'd rather side with a coach (a retread!) for an incredibly dynamic player who wanted to retire a Hab?!?!?

I hope this haunts MTL for a long, long, long time.

Therien is a joke of a coach, who will probably be fired midseason when the Canadiens are floundering.

I'd love to know what's going on behind the scenes with Subban. I keep hearing he wasn't well liked in the Habs dressing room.

I wish him well in Nashville.

I think he is...and I have posted numerous times the rumors about the behind the scenes stuff with Subban.

            Wait.

Donating his money to a hospital is a spectacle?

And him donating his money and not the teams money is a problem for not acknowledging the team?

The Canadiens and the inflexibility of the French fanbase will see them recycling Michel Therrien, Alan Vigneault, Guy Carbonneau, and the bastard Ontarian francophone Claude Julien. Possibly with a sprinkling of freshness with Guy Boucher in odd years.

I feel like Subban for Hall and RNH for Larsson is a more accurate representation of equivalent value exchange.

Calling the event a spectacle was a bad choice of words. And I have no idea why the team would get pissed at him for not inviting him but that's the report I have heard. Now I tried to find the article that this radio host based it off of but I had no luck. This could also be wrong but I haven't heard anything else for reasons to why they were listening to trade offers for him. I'll keep looking to see if I can find it. And if I do I will obviously post it. And this is the same organization that left Patrick Roy in while getting rocked just to embarrass him 20 years ago.

I wonder what kind of forward Nashville could get if they turned around and traded Subban?

Here's what a Canadiens fan said elsewhere:

It's not the Habs are pissed at him, it's Paccioretty who's pissed at him. Ever since he had his neck smashed; the team management has been sucking up to him. Patches wanted his name on the wing as well as Subban's meanwhile Subban is the one who donated the money. Paccioretty didn't do **** for the hospital
Seeing that this guy is closer to the situation there's probably some truth to it.

JVR? lol seriously though, it'd be funny if Preds did end up turning around and shipping Subban for something better than what they gave up to get him.

Just seems so weird seeing PK going to Nashville.

Hall has some issues but he's so much better than Larsson.

Subban has some issues but I would rather have him than Weber.

Correct. I love how everyone up here (particularly in Toronto) is always surprised by this. Combine this with the pathological idiocy of management teams and outright bizarre obsession with "character" and "toughness" over talent, and today is Exhibit A in the case against Canadian teams ever winning a Stanley Cup again. Fans, media, GMs: everyone up here drinks this bull**** Kool-Aid, and then they double down when it (inevitably) fails. It's as if they've all been brainwashed by Don Cherry. Kind of amazing, really.

Very small chance this hurts the Preds. How many North American players have retired and left money on the table?

Weber will either play out the contract, or (much more likely) he'll get hurt (or "hurt") at some point and be LTIR'd for the last few years of his career.
