Re: OMG ,WHAT A JOKE!!!
It's very unrealistic. And if that was the case with every tourney, it would be a problem. But it's not every tourney apparently. Someone said -13 was the winning score in one tourney they played. Me, I don't care about winning. I care about having a challenge. Sounds like they got rid of the rubberband AI which, IMO, was many times worse than the this concern.Comment

Re: OMG ,WHAT A JOKE!!!
No its not at all like that. You have direct control against the AI in NHL, you don't in golf. I'm all for a challenge, the AI here just isn't tuned enough. I thought it was fine in previous years, not sure what changed with 10.Comment

I had the PS3 version last year and I know that the typical CPU performance varied based on the difficulty (i.e. on Balanced the scores would be a bit lower on average than on Hard, and the same with Tour Pro.) I'm curious if the same thing is the case this year, and whether it applies similarly to the Wii version.
If the scores are ridiculously low on Advanced but more reasonable on Standard, then I can see myself playing on Standard and just turning off putt preview/spin control and tuning my clubs to "simulate" Advanced difficulty. But if they're ridiculous no matter what, then there's nothing that can be done at all.
But I'm not sure what you mean when you say you don't care about winning, you care about having a challenge. Pretty much by definition, scoring like this means that you have to be so good at the game that it's not a challenge by any reasonable definition of the term. The rubberband AI would at least make it so that if you were being challenged and scoring in the upper 60's, the CPU would be largely playing with you. When the AI is such that you're just forced to put up insanely low numbers to compete, it's not really a challenge so much as it is an unrealistically high bar that it set.
In short, I guess I'm saying this: if you're shooting in the low 60's or the upper 50's every single round, you're not being challenged. If you're playing the best you can and score in the middle or upper 60's, then you are.Comment

Re: OMG ,WHAT A JOKE!!!
I have yet to see any scores near -40...All the tourneys I have seen so far (the PGA Champions Event @ Pinehurst, the Buick Invitational, AT&T Pro-Am, and the Twin Cities Tournament) have been pretty realistic.
The first three events were all won with scores in the -20 range, with -28 by Tiger in the PGA Champions event being the lowest. I just finished the first round of the Twin Cities tourney @ Hazeltine in first place, having shot -9 (two shots ahead of second place).Orbis Non SuficitComment

You're correct that the issue could have to do with how the CPU plays on each difficulty level. I said as much a few pages back -- that the OP was probably playing on Beginner level to have the CPU shoot -40.Last edited by baa7; 06-16-2009, 01:55 PM.Comment

Re: OMG ,WHAT A JOKE!!!
This is why I asked about whether the difficulty level plays a role in the typical CPU performance. It's complicated a bit because I have the Wii version this year and the Wii version only has three difficulty levels (All-Play, Standard, and Advanced) while I'd imagine the next-gen versions have four like they did last year (Beginner, Balanced, Hard, and Tour Pro.)

At Q school tourney I was -10 after 3 rounds, 2 shots behind and the leader shoots 62 to go to 22 under at the end. The problem is I got my golfer stats to average about 68-70. So if I play well for 3 rounds I can win but not if I have to shoot a 59 to win in the 4th round.Comment

Re: OMG ,WHAT A JOKE!!!
Onlooker plays on Tour difficulty, so it's confirmed that the premise of this entire thread is basically an uninformed rant. The CPU simply does not shoot -40 every round. That's not even close to the reality apparently.Comment

Re: OMG ,WHAT A JOKE!!!
So, does the CPU put up -40 under every tourney? No, but it seems to put up unrealistic scores and prevents you from winning 100% of the time.
What I find troubling is that so many of you seem to be defending this, when for a lot of people, this is a gamekiller. Imagine just not being able to beat a game like Halo 3 because once you kill a certain level of Flood or Covenant, the game kicks into insane mode and basically prevents you from achieving mission completions due to its superhuman-ness. That's what we're talking about here.Last edited by fantasysportsguy; 06-16-2009, 06:04 PM.Comment

Re: OMG ,WHAT A JOKE!!!
I play on 360.
I started the first tourney on Tour Pro...I shot a +30 and lowered it to Pro, but kept the spin and power boost off (putt preview and the grid are still on until I really get used to putting).Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: OMG ,WHAT A JOKE!!!
Defending what? Someone reported one tourney ended at -13. Someone else said -27 was the lowest score they had after several tourneys. Apparently tournament winning scores are all over the map, just like they should be.Comment

I am like 24 under and tied for like 23rd PLACE!!!! wtf?!?!?!?!?!?!? everybody is amazing. is there some sort of setting or something i can change... i dont want to go to a lower level..idk

There are a lot of people, not only here at OS, but at other sites, that are seeing what we're seeing, but I suppose since it's not happening to you then they're just lying or something.Comment
