    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I'm 28 and have been golfing since I was 5. My parents put a club in my hand and I guess I had a natural swing. When I was in middle/high school I'd ride my bike to the golf course and golf every day during the summer.

Now I try to get out once a week and play in a league that is for people who work in the government buildings downtown (I work for the County).

I struggle with the inevitable blow-up hole. Usually it's an ugly double or two that pops up. The last round I played was on Sunday night. I took a 10 on the first hole after putting two tee shots in the drink. I then proceeded to shoot a 44 that included 3 birdies . My best 18-hole round ever is a 73 (par 71) and my best 9-hole effort is a 34 (par 36). My handicap is about 10-12. I could be a lot better, but I don't practice enough and would rather just play because I enjoy it. No matter how bad I'm golfing, there's fewer things more relaxing than being out on the course with a couple friends.

    Good idea for a thread.

EDIT: Duluth is awesome for decent, affordable golf. There's two city-owned courses that are in good shape, both with 27 holes. Then across the bridge in Superior, WI there's a 36-hole municipal course. Then if you feel like taking a drive, there's tons of awesome courses that are top-notch within a 1-3 hour drive. I see a couple of you are from Wisconsin, and I'd say if you're looking for a good golf trip that doesn't cost too much and isn't too much of a haul, you can't go wrong with Northern Minnesota.

My boys all played college golf so they're all ringers, I'm definitely the worst of the bunch. I did manage to shoot a 39 in last Wednesday's league match. I'm playing 9 holes in Appleton tomorrow afternoon, and playing 27 holes in Green Bay on Saturday. Sunday will probably be similar to Saturday, haven't made any plans yet.

      Hit em straight gentlemen.
I've played around Green Bay in the past. Where are you playing?

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Nice thread! I play every chance I get... and on that note I tee off today at 4:05 pm
I've really worked hard on my game and have really improved. My biggest issue right now is confidence off the tee. I don't slice etc.. any more but it's 50 50 if I'll be 250 in the fairway or 150 in the fairway or just off.

The last issue I have is consistancy. I have issues stringer together 3-4 shots in a row. Example:
Par 5 and I hit a nice drive and follow that up with a good fairway wood...
        Now I'm 30 - 50yds off green hitting my 3rd.
I'll either duff that show or I'll get on green and then 3 putt.. lol

        Getting better though.

Don't know if anyone has tried teh Stack and Tilt but if you are having ball striking problems... Check it out! From day 1 this helped me out. That on top of using the Medicus 7 iron = Money.
This year I've hit more greens in regulation than I've ever hit.

My advice of the day(And it's not mine as I got this off Golf channel and it's really common sense)
It's not all about how far you can hit it.
Find the 2-3 clubs you are money at and play around them. For me it's my 7 iron (or 7 Hybrid). I hit it dead on 155-160.
So even if I can rip a ball to 50 yards from the green I will hit a club to get me in that 155range. It's easier for me to take a full swing with 7 iron than a "touch" swing with my lob wedge.

Anyone else use a GPS? I use the Sonnocaddie

Anyways love having this thread and whens the OS Scramble Tourney?

Edit: Best purchase this year for me: I got the 60

          Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I've been playing a lot more this year. Trying to get out at least twice a week. Hadn't played much in previous years, and was shooing in the low 100's. But this year, I joined the league at work and have been playing almost every Saturday. Now I'm shooting in the low 90's.

I play Callaway X-20 irons. I also play the Burner '07 (couldn't pass it up for the price). I've been hitting them well, but I actually have a nasty hook. I think it's my baseball swing taking over at times, as I will hit a bad hook and it just feels like I was swinging at a baseball.

My putting has been off and on this year (currently off!) and it is costing me strokes at this point. I have been 3 putting like it's going out of style. Need to hit the putting green...

Playing this Saturday, hoping to break 90 for the first time...

              Oh yeah:
besides my Calloway FT IQ driver and Cleveland wedge..
I use Taylor Made Clones.... Just haven't been "ready" to spend the $ on a set yet until I'm happy with overall ball striking etc...
With that said.. By the end of the year I will have my new set Woot!
              I'm between TM Burner's or Calloway X 20 series...

As far as my game: I'm usually around Low 90's.

I tell you what. If we would have one planned early enough I know I'd make it.... Maybe 2011 could be Year 1 of the get together

                    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I have been playing every Saturday during the summer for about 8 years now. I usually shoot in the mid 90's, with my best score being 87 on a par 71. I can usually play well for 15 or 16 holes, but then I blow up on 2 holes and screw my round up. I have trouble letting go of bad shots sometimes, which leads to the 8's and 9's.

I have a Taylormade 580XD driver (I am starting to look for a new one), and Adams IDEA irons (which I really like).

My problem is distance. I don't hit the ball very far, so I have to hit it straight. If I am not hitting it straight, it makes for a very long day.

It's amazing how much your game improves once you realize that it's golfing, so it's better than most things you could be doing, and just focus on the next shot.

The bad thing is I know that, I tell myself that before I start...but as soon as things start to go bad, I can't let it go.

I wish I was a lot better, but I played all through HS and I could never shoot under 80, and I only did that once on the easiest course around.

It sucks because my brother is like a 6 handicap, and my mom loves to play and she would pay for me to play just about anywhere around.

I have Ping G10 Irons and a G10 driver along with a Cobra 4 hybrid.

I've had these clubs for a year or so and they've been working very well for me.

I play golf normally a couple times a week, if I'm playing well I can break 90, but that's on a pretty tough course. Normally on typical public courses breaking 90 wouldn't be too much of a problem for me.

I love golfing. I try to get out every weekend, but that never seems to happen with stuff around the house and being on call every 3rd weekend for work. I'd say I get out 2-3 times per month and get to the range another handful of times.

I drive around 270yds and have solid iron play. My short game and putting is what kills me. I shoot anywhere between 85-95. Consistency is certainly my biggest issue. It seems when I'm driving great and my iron play is great, the short game/putting is poor (which happens most of the time). The rare times I get my short game/putting going, I lose control of my driver and irons and start pushing left/right. I used to have a nasty slice off the tee, but managed to correct that so now most of my mistakes are pushes.

Currently I'm playing with Callaway X-14 irons/wedges, big bertha driver/3-wood/5-wood. I want to upgrade, but I'm having a tough time convincing the wife (she is on board for a 65" plasma 3D TV at Xmas so I'm not pushing the new clubs right now!).

I'm playing a local course today here in Yakima called Apple Tree. Eastern Washington is well known for it's agriculture and this course cuts through various apple orchards along the way. It probably has my favorite Par 3 ever, an elevated tee above a apple shaped island green.
