Re: Not Impressed with TW at all

i see what you are saying about turning off the grids but it only makes it more difficult because you cant read the green not because it makes it more of a sim. i have had several putts where it was impossible to tell if i was putting up hill or down hill.

so when you turn off the grid you are not really reading the green. you are making a guess because the graphics dont show slopes very well if at all.

I've tried without the grid, but I changed it to putting only grid. I don't hit every long putt, it's pretty realistic. Just helps me visualize better, until I learn the greens without the grid

agreed...ill probably go back to the grid for this reason.....unless theres an exaggerated slope, its virtually impossible to get a read, at least for me

Re: Not Impressed with TW at all

Are you using all the different cameras when you are at the green? If it is exaggerated uphill, downhill, breaks left or right you should have no problem reading it. As far as ones that do not break much yes it is a guess. Do you guys watch alot of golf on TV or play in real life? I don't ask out of sarcasm but just trying to convey that pros misread puts many times in a round. The thing is that TW "the CONSOLE version" affords you the luxury of hitting every putt dead on (no pushing or pulling of the puts) already removing one part of the difficulty when putting. This is also why I prefer putting on the PC.

When I get home tonight I will throw out what I use on the Xbox version to read it. The PC version is simple because you can customize the camera with the right click and get low to the ground to read it and the rotate to read from the hole back.

If you need to use the grid that is understandable but it is people who use the grids and the caddy, then complain about the ease of putting and scoring that can be agitating. If you want to raise you scores (i.e keep them realistic, instead of hitting a 60 to 65 each round) removing the grids and caddy tips is a good way of doing that.

                        hey bd,

i respect your opinion but i do think you might be oversimplifying a little bit. the greens by themself just dont convey the real slope of the green. the grid helps that with the putting.

the approach shots are difficult to read even with the grid. because its radius is so small you see too little of the green. i play enough golf to know that you want to putt up the hill and not down. i cant imagine trying to figure the green out without the grid.

i hit a shot last night that should have made me shout out with glee. i hit an approach shot to about 10 feet to the back of the pin. it landed on a slope and started straight back to the cup and settled to within 3 feet.

the only problem was i really wasnt aiming there because from the graphics you couldnt see that it was that elevated by the hole and the grid is so small you really couldnt see that it was sloped that much either. i was more mad about the shot because i should have and would have aimed there if i had been able to determine it was sloped that much.

maybe the improved graphics on the box actually make a difference, i dont know. i can tell you that on the ps2 the greens all look the same.
