    Re: Links 2004 Impressions Thread

I was playing a tourney in my career. There was a 3 way tie after 18 and we went to a playoff.
The cool thing was in the playoff, after I hit my tee shot, I got to see the other players play the hole as well. Not much, but at least I get to see what I'm up against rather than playing the hole by myself and hoping I won.

      Re: Links 2004 Impressions Thread

Got this the other day, and I must say it is an awesome game (so far) !

I was a big TW 2003 fan , I loved it last year. It had a ton of options, courses, and was fun as hell.

But this year's Tiger Woods 2004, is not online. So I decided to get Links... Here is what I noticed so far....

Graphics are the BEST golf game on a console, (better than TW)though a high quality PC is still a little better looking

The courses are incredibly detailed . Compare St Andrews on TW and Links and you will see.

The announcers are too robotic. The word linkings are poor. Wish they had the TW guys - they are soo much better

The depth of player customization is not too great, but at least as good as last year's TW 2003. Decent

The gameplay is SUPERB - Physics are excellent.

The online gameplay is BETTER THAN SUPERB - I just got done from playing 2 rounds of golf online with a buddy, and two rounds took less than 40 minutes! You can lliterally fly through a match (you can also take your time if you like)

The stat tracking seems quite nice soo far. Pretty deep, lotta stats, trophies, rankings, etc.....

I got a hole in one online tonight, and I saved the replay - very cool !

Basically, this game is a must have for golf fans. On beginner, it is Tiger Woods type of easy, but on intermediate and advanced, the game gets progressively harder.

So far I am very happy I waited. I simply loved TW 2003 on the XBOX, and rented TW 2004 and loved it. But Links is just as solid, in slightly different ways. And the online factor makes it A MUST HAVE....

If you dont have XBOX LIVE well , then..... it's a tighter race, but I still prefer Links...

            Re: Links 2004 Impressions Thread

It's been about 10 years since i've even owned a golf game...more into the standard football/baseball/basketball games. Went to EB yesterday to pick up ESPN college hoops (a game i had been looking forward to for several months). While i was there i saw Links on the shelf, saw it was XBL compatible, so thought i'd pick it up and see if online golf would be any fun.

This game is incredible! I've played 3 or 4 games of ESPN college hoops, and spent way way longer playing Links. I've only played one game onling so far (and got my tail kicked), then started playing in career mode to build my guy up. I've never had this much fun playing in career mode before in any game (Top Spin comes close). This game is so addicting...i'm still up at 2:30am because of this freakin' game. I think that online tournaments will be awesome...can't wait for the XSN stuff to be set up.

I've never played TW so it's probably not even fair to comment, but i can't see any golf game being better than this one. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is awesome, you've got to work for everything you get (at least on "advanced" setting). i'm hooked.

Thanks to all you guys for the impressions so far. I think I will pick this game up this week...

One question though.. I LOVE the putting in TW as it is more about reading the greens than getting the power(swing) correct... Like in real golf, anyone can hit the ball perfectly(on the pro tour anyway), but reading the green is where the skill lies.

Are you guys saying that puttin is mostly about moving the stick and not about reading the greens?, or is it both of these things?

                  Thanks.

The question about putting, is that it is both. In TW you should need to worry about the lie of the green. In Links you have to worry about the lie and the speed. It makes it challenging, but fun.

One thing after playing a few more games I would like to add is that the announcing does sound robotic, but they actually have some good stuff to say. It does sound clipped together, but they do provide info about what is going on in the game, which I like.

This game totally surprised me this year. Can't wait to see what kind of downloads we get.

Matt Foley is 100% right. It's about both and it does putting better than tiger. If you have a sloping putt you just can't bang it in. Sloping short putts scare me, just like in real life.
