    Re: Links 2004 Impressions Thread

I set up my profile on Advanced - you can't change your player once you start.

    - Graphics are pretty nice.
    - Character creation is weaksauce.
    - Physics are great - I had a side hill lie, and tried to shoot with no correction, and I ended up slicing the heck out of it.
    - Putting is an ******* ***** on advanced. The difference between enough and too much .... is small. Very small. Very very small.
    - Commentary isn't outstanding, but I do like that in tournaments, you'll get commentary telling you how the leaders are doing. Really makes you feel that there's a tournament going on.
    - Custom Soundtracks are great. Stepping up to the tee with the theme from Halo playing gets ya going ...
    - Putting
    - Online play is smooth like silk. Completely lag-free, lots of modes. The Speed Stroke Play is really interesting, and could make for a fun 4 player game.
    - I was not initially feeling the "addictiveness" that you get in a good (HSG, TW, OG) golf game. But late last night, I dug into the various challenges, and really got hooked.
    - Did I mention the putting?

I got to play the tutorial and a few single rounds. First thing i did, by the recommendations of others, is to turn the commentary off. I gotta say i am really liking this game so far. Its difficult enough so that it appears that you wont be hitting 50's in a few weeks, yet when you do get a birdie or eagle, you feel freakin great at the accomplishment.

Putting is hard, but not frustrating. Custom soundtracks actually work pretty good here. I thought that playing with music on that it would distract, but not the case.

Gmae is pretty, and the many options make this one a keeper.

Now i just have to find to play ALL my games.

I agree...putting was really tough at first, and still isn't easy, but I'm getting the hang of it. I just know I won't be sinking many 20 footers off the bat. The game is a lot less forgiving with the analog swing, which is great. Like Bacardi said, you feel great when you get a birdie or eagle, because you earned it. Online is hella fun as well, played a couple games with Fossen last night and had a blast.

Game is really good. I played on Advanced pretty much straight from the start. Completed all of the rookie tour. The skins game was the only one I had to do a few times to complete.

Played one round of stroke-play online and shot even par. Then played a second round on a different course and shot +10. The game really forces you to focus on every shot you take especially putting. I figure with the current stats of my player I can be shooting at best -5 for a round (I haven't yet but it seems possible), and that would be with some great approach shots and putting. Compared to TG where I was hitting -10 from day one and wasn't challenged abit.

My only complaint is the fact that sand and other hazards doesn't seem to effect the power of shots as much as they probably should.

Yeah - I noticed this, as well. It seems like every sand shot is a "pick" shot.

                        Not an impression, but still:

Though not documented in the manual, the white button will move to the next song.

i did the same as you, "creating" my player on advanced, since you cant later change.......wonder how long its going to take to shoot par on 18?

oh, and what do you think about the putting? .....any 5-putts yet? im mastering that move
