Crazy Canuck is about to play maxed out settings (Legend with no aids on) at the definitely-not-Augusta "Lone Grove Golf Club" in just 2 minutes:

Re: PGA Tour 2K23 Releases on October 14, Three Click Swing Option Added - Videos, Sc
OK...watched it.
The first shot he hit he said was a bug or something...that looked like a Very Slow, outside the gray zone, that should have been worse of a shot than it was. Then he hit a very fast chip on that same hole that nestled right next to the cup...
He also commented on how he might have noticed that a Fast off the tee on the second led to something similar to how red fasts worked at the beginning of 2K21...he had 340 yards of carry off the tee with a slight fast on Hole 2. Then his second on No. 2 was a "slow" that was also outside of the gray area and was still a GIR...another one that seemed it should have been a "very slow".
He almost chipped in with a very fast on Hole 3...seems he's playing for the VF on chips?
The flop shot he hit on the 4th had major spin on it...looks like using the splash shots in 2K21.
He made a comment on the 5th that "fasts pull the ball more than the slow"...not sure what that means, but it does seem that fasts give the ball a boost and seem to almost "help" more.
He mentioned he's concerned about the fasts again on Hole 6. Looked like he had a flat lie...it just shot straight left off the club face. Personally, it looked like his swing plane was well to the left, outside the gray, so I think he literally pulled it.
His tee shot on Hole 8 looked like it should have been punished big time - 104% and it should have been a very slow, IMO...instead he's got another FIR, 338 yards down the fairway.
The tempo penalty on Hole 9 off the tee was good. Odd that the pitching wedge is included in the iron Skills, and not the wedge skills.
Short game still looks so twitchy and wildly "difficult" compared to hitting the ball off the tee and on approach shots. I don't mind that chipping and putting is harder, but it seems the difficulty between the long game and the short game is not at all balanced.
Another pretty grippy flop shot on 14...seems those will be the replacement for slashes, for sure.
Hole 15...he hits a 220-yard club 99% with a fast tempo into a wind that's been medium to strong all round, a bit downhill, and it flew 215 yards? Not sure that seemed to fit in my mind...I thought with less than 100% he was never getting to the green, and he hit it over...he even seemed surprised by this.
In general, he overswings very, very often, really limiting his accuracy zones. I know he scored an 81, but he still hit 2/3 of the GIR and over half of the FIR. Tons of his extra strokes came from the chips and his unfamiliarity with putting minus green grids.
I guess my closing thoughts are...yeah, it was "tough". And he ended up shooting 9-over-par. But from tee to green, this still looked easier than I'd expect it to, set to the max difficulty you can play. Only once did he ever find himself in trouble in the pine straw. I guess maybe it's because he was playing a very open course? IDK...this just seemed like, if it's the absolute most challenging this game can play, you should be pushing triple digits on the scorecard the first time you give the settings a go, if you are indeed trying to create a golf "simulation" game.
In comparison, I remember playing TW14's "sim" mode or whatever for the first time (the swing that made you move the stick diagonally) with no scout zoom and no green grid at TPC Sawgrass not too long ago, and shot 95.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 09-27-2022, 01:42 AM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA Tour 2K23 Releases on October 14, Three Click Swing Option Added - Videos, Sc
Agree. The game doesn't punish Powerhouse archetype nearly enough. Flop shots need to run. The overall windows for misses need to be narrower on the top 2 difficulties at least. His swing path on nearly all the shots is fine for the most part but his downswing speed was off so I can almost see why some of the shots weren't punished as much as you might think they should be.
With only a few weeks left till release you have to wonder what they can do outside of an early patch to the game.
Besides penalties for short siding yourself and making downhill putts very hard what is Woods' input in this game really?Comment

I assume that we will still get videos coming out soon related to the course creator...depending on when the 2K embargo lifts. But I am thinking we have seen about as much variety in gameplay videos as we will prior to launch. Maybe we get more, but it will likely all be the same or similar to what we've seen.
So here are some thoughts on the info up to this point:
GOOD
- short game is no longer automatic
- lighting and trees do look better
- more brands of gear
- playable pros are a fun addition, especially the return of Tiger
- sponsors in career mode seem a bit better...I like the fact you need to keep a good relationship with them, instead of simply accomplishing arbitrary tasks, to unlock gear
- swappable courses in career mode are a welcome addition
- playoffs mean no more ties in events
- Topgolf looks to be fun, if you have a group to play with
- addition of 3-click swing is nice
BAD
- putting and chipping look very twitchy and stabby...animations seems awkward and all chips seem to be "very fasts"
- seems that the game/swing is easier on all settings...not as many big-time punishing results for bad swings
- "Skills" are totally arcade-based, and are just there to hold the player's hand in many cases...getting boosts for poor play makes no sense to me when the game seems easier than 2K21
- LPGA players simply dropped into PGA Tour career mode...why isn't there an LPGA career mode in a game releasing in 2022, if you really want to give a sim experience and showcase women's golf?
- rivals in career mode are totally silly and don't work for me...I think they are worse than in 2K21 now - especially the fact that they re-become your rivals again once you beat all of them!
- archetypes are OK, but it seems like they may not matter when you can fit your clubs with heads, grips, and shafts that make up for your deficiencies
- consumable golf balls are straight out of the WGT mobile app and are another way to make this feel super arcadey, as well as to give 2K another way to make you use your VC...the fact a consumable ball gets used in Topgolf is insane
- cosmetic-only clubs/balls are OK, but in real life, clubs and golf balls do have different pros and cons (ex. some are more forgiving, some have more spin)...seems silly that you can use any club and get the same results, and it's only based on your golfer stats
- swappable courses in career mode depend on what 2K will put in that curated list
- pro highlights in career mode are once again an immediate disable...they look glitched and pointless once again
- there has been no guarantee that leaderboards in career mode have been fixed, as far as I can tell
I'm sure I have some more to add to both sides, but what has been shown has not blown me away. I was hoping for some more obvious influence from Tiger Woods here, but I don't know if I see anything, TBH. At least it's not clear where his input would have been used. A lot of this looks like a slightly updated, re-skinned 2K21.
Career mode is a very slight update from 2K21, with some actual regression with the rival system and inclusion of LPGA pros in a non-sensical way.
The game plays easier from the looks of it...this to me seems like it's a clear move to position themselves farther away from sim to entice more casual players before EA's game comes out. While that was not unexpected, I did not expect this much of a swing in the pendulum for 2K, making a game that's filled with some over-the-top arcade touches like the Skill tree, consumable golf balls, random "loot drops" you get after rounds for things like fittings that give you odd boosts to your clubs, etc.
It's not great when the NextMakers' biggest pro for the game, something they can't stop talking about, is the menu music and how great it is...
I am still very intrigued to see the course designer, and will probably get this game at some point (maybe even Day 1 - I am itching for new virtual golf), but I am more negative on this game than I am positive, that's for sure.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 09-27-2022, 10:46 AM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA Tour 2K23 Releases on October 14, Three Click Swing Option Added - Videos, Sc
Good points all. Only comment on the jabby looking putts and chips. Since they have changed the yardage dramatically on chips there is no way to make the chip animation look any better since the club head barely has to be taken back at all. Very difficult to get anything other than a Fast unless you good hands. At 70 mine don't work like they used to. Same goes for putting the stroke has to look jabby with a very short draw back with the putter on the faster greens.
The only thing they can do to remedy would be to have the animation not match your input.
Look at the rival replays on the chips and see how much further they draw the club back.Comment

For me, videos are great and all but I can review something until I have it in my hands. I definitely getting this day 1 as well as ea’s product. The only thing I’m contemplating now is buying the Tuesday version or the standard. It all depends on how my days off fall that week.
At the very least, all the info that's been shown has led me to stop considering the Deluxe or the Tiger Woods editions. I don't feel as if I'm being shown a game that's worth $99 or $120, or one that I'm clamoring to get 3 days early. In fact, that 3-day period will be good to see what the early adopters think of the game.
The only additional benefit would be getting dual-gen entitlement, but it doesn't really seem like the "next-gen" version is going to really be worth it, either.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 09-27-2022, 11:24 AM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA Tour 2K23 Releases on October 14, Three Click Swing Option Added - Videos, Sc
Since I am pretty much done looking at 2k21 this game is my only choice. All my viewing and gaming is from at least 12 feet away on the PS4 which makes 4k an absolute waste of money therefore no need for a PS5 or one of Mr.Bill's new offerings. Looking at you EA. Besides I have no room for anything other than the S and since I can't stand the Microsoft controller that is a no go. Even with an adapter or a third party PS controller which plays on Microsoft spending 300 bucks for a very small upgrade hardly makes sense.
I feel fairly confident there will be limited changes before launch expect a patch(es) eventually.
I doubt I would be able to hold out for a large price drop so it is a buy for me sometime soon.Comment

Obviously the previews/early videos can provide the depth/shortcomings of certain aspects of the game (ie: Career Mode), but how the game plays in my hands and the experience/enjoyment that it provides while on the actual course means more than anything else to me.
If the game plays great on the course and provides enjoyment then I can overlook shortcomings in other areas. Likewise, if the game plays horrible and offers no enjoyment playing the actual game, then no amount of depth to any game mode is going to sway me to grind thru the gameplay.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

The part about Tiger is what keeps coming to my mind also.
I just don't see much of anything that isn't mostly what I was already expecting from a follow up to 2k21.
i.e. I also am struggling to see where/what he had any influence here.Comment

Re: PGA Tour 2K23 Releases on October 14, Three Click Swing Option Added - Videos, Sc
with 3 click i would like to see more left, right and distance penalty for not hitting the meter perfectly, not just when you turn up the difficulty the meter moves faster. If playing pro swing difficulty the meter speed is good, but the penalty for missing is to little. If this adjustment was made the game would be much better.Comment

Dial in. One more difficulty level needed. That tee shot on 5 cannot come out of the rough. There has to be a half to a full shot penalty for missing the fairway and getting a 65% lie. Golf is not played on concrete. Golfer looks good courses look good so close to making a very good game.Comment
