I just saw your post on the 2K forums, OD, and I think there's some confusion between dual-gen (or cross-gen) entitlement and cross-gen online play.

Dual-gen entitlement means you can buy the game once and play the game on the last gen console (PS4 or Xbox One) and the "next gen" console (PS5 or Xbox Series X/S).

Cross-gen play means you can have the game on a last-gen console and play others on the next gen systems from that console family, or vice-versa.

From the sounds of it, all versions of 2K23 will allow players to play cross-gen users online on their console family of choice (i.e., PS4 users can play PS5 users, Xbox One users can play Xbox Series X/S users). I pulled this from the 2K Newsroom announcement of PGA 2K23:

"****Multiplayer modes can only be played with the same console or across generations within the same console family (Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S; PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5)"

However, dual gen entitlement is only included with the standard PS5 digital version, the standard Xbox Series X/S physical and digital versions, the physical or digital Deluxe Edition for either console family, or the digital-only Tiger Woods Edition for either console family.

Clear as mud, right!?!? :-)

Ok this is really weird and indeed confusing. My buddy just bought a PS5 because I was under the impression that I could not play him online if he was on PS4. He's happy to have one (I got lucky on the Sony Direct site), but now I'm wondering, for all of those players out there still on PS4, the only way I'll be able to play them in 1v1 match play is if I have the digital PS5 version?!

I'm guessing that if I don't have the digital version, there will be many thousands of fewer players to match up with in 1v1?

None of this makes sense. Why doesn't the standard disc PS5 version work with PS4 players? WTF, ya know?

According to the 2K Newsroom announcement of PGA 2K23, all last-gen users can play against all users within their console's family (for example, all PS4 users can play against other PS4 users, as well as PS5 users, online), no matter the edition they bought or anything like that.

Just for simplification:
- if you own a PS4 or PS5, you can play online against PS4 and PS5 users
- if you own an Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, you can play online against Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S users

Basically, you DO NOT have to buy a next-gen console to play online with next-gen users.

Again, this is the key point related to online multiplayer that I took right from the 2K23 announcement:

Ok, so I am still trying to decipher the whole "what's up with the PS5 standard physical disc version not having dual-gen entitlement" thing.

This bit is odd and adds even more confusion:

"Players who purchase the Standard Edition of the game for Xbox Series X|S (physical or digital version) or PlayStation 5 (digital version only) consoles which includes cross-generation dual entitlement will also receive the Golden Club Pack for the game on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, respectively*******."

All those *s lead to this note:

"*******Available for PlayStation and Xbox consoles on the same account within the same console family (Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S; PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5). PlayStation 4 (Physical): PlayStation 4 disc and PlayStation 5 console with disc drive required to play PlayStation 5 version."

I really don't understand this at all - it kind of sounds like the PS4 physical version allows for dual-entitlement? Maybe not? I don't know. My brain hurts.

Either way, I kind of don't care anymore...haha. This is way overcomplicated and frustrating. Perhaps someone else can figure it all out.

Harold Varner III is officially off to LIV. Would assume he gets dropped from PGA 2K23.

Yeah, I'd say that's Harold's ticket out of PGA TOUR 2K23, but I'm sure that the additional compensation he'll get for going to the LIV will more than offset whatever he got for being a featured pro in 2K23. I'm curious to see how 2K handles this. I wouldn't be surprised if 2K didn't already have some conditional offers with other pros as a contingency.

I'm glad to see St. Georges and the Renaissance Club in the mix. I'd love to see a more featured video of the Renaissance Club in particular. I want to get a good look at how they handled the pot bunkers there. It will be the first time we see supposedly properly formed pot bunkers in this game engine. Sadly, it looks now like they'll only be possible in official courses.

Yeah I'm sure and if players who they put in the new game defect it shouldn't be too hard for HB to remove them.

I briefly had a series S and was really impressed by it.
I think it’s an incredible value

The only issue is the storage is a major weak point and official upgrades are pricey. By the time you factor that in going with a series X makes more and more sense

If you've got a 1080p display you're going to use it with, I think the Series S would be a great choice for you. It renders the graphics at a native resolution of 1440p. From what I read, it will run most games at the same frame rate as a Series X, which renders at a native resolution of 2160p (4K). If you don't have a lot of games, the 500 GB drive won't be a problem. If you need more storage than that, you'll be looking at spending another $220 to get a 1TB SSD expansion drive. At that point, you're $20 over what you would have spent for a Series X. You'd have a 1/2TB more storage than a stock Series X, but you'd have less than half of the processing speed of the Series X.

I'm contemplating buying a Series X for my bedroom, where I have a 1080p display. I'd use it to occasionally play golf and Rocket League on, so I don't think I'd challenge the drive capacity with it. I love the smaller footprint of the S and that would work a lot better in my bedroom, where I already have an XBox One X in service. I'll sell it to offset some of the cost of the S.

I wonder if you can mix and match swing types. Would like to try 3 click but think the swing stick option works really well for putting.

I wanna say someone mentioned you can change the swing at any time thru the pause menu, so I think that would basically allow you to do this. You'd just have to pause and switch before putting, and then do the same before hitting the next tee shot.

I would have bet they would have never put 3 click in their game. Holding the button down to initiate has to make it harder than the old way. I was more impressed than I thought I would be not enough to pre order since I don't need to play as a basketball legend.

Same. They seemed adamantly against allowing players to use click swings. I'm glad they finally came to their senses.
