Maybe the meter will be fine but it's bizarre they decided they needed to reinvent 3-click as a backward running clock instead of just do what basically every game ever does with a meter that goes back and the through.

Considering the hostility to click meters in the past it just makes me thing they went out of their way to not do the normal thing when forced by someone above.

I mean, who was asking for them to do it this way? Whatever, we'll see. *mutters and walks away*

Another thing, watching all these gameplay videos, is how aggressive they made green speeds and rollouts. These NextMaker folks are barely pulling the stick back on putts, and the ball goes for days. Not sure I've seen anyone leave a putt short...and downhill putts are roller coaster rides. I think I saw someone putt off the green twice on one hole!

I don't know if that's a positive or a negative - it's one of those things that needs to be experienced first hand to see how it works. But that's a big difference than 2K21. That will be something to keep an eye on, in terms of post-release changes (flashback to the "red fast nerf" from 2K21). If people flip out about the greens, and the difficulty of chipping now, too, I wonder what 2K/HB will do in reaction to it.

Jim Gem mentioned how far he had to bring the stick back on putts and said he and a few others mentioned this to the dev team hoping they can sort this out in the final build for the game. He was barely bringing the stick back and putts were zooming past the cup. SeaMount said there was less friction in the greens and they putted more like 19. Truer rollout on putts and approaches but much more difficult.

In the comments after the video Respawn says you can't play against pros as CPUs. I thought I heard that you could.

this is the best I've seen this game look. with cloudy skies it just looks better. And the motion capture looks fantastic.

I think it looks very good myself but I think he is playing on a pretty decent gaming computer with settings all the way up. I wonder how this game will look on my PS4 displayed on a decent 1080p TV. Can someone who played 2k21 on a gaming rig and a PS4 tell me if there was much difference visually between the two?

You cannot, from what I gather. You can play as the pros in casual rounds, multiplayer, and Divot Derby. You cannot play against AI-controlled pros, although I guess you can play against someone else who is using a pro in multiplayer.

Another really arcade-y thing to me is that you can just change your archetype willy-nilly...so you can go from being a "Powerhouse" to a "Sculptor" between rounds if you want.

And these barely-tapped putts rolling 10-20 feet past the cup are really becoming noticeable.

Now this is a tailor made video for tech nerds like me! Two pages of graphics options on the PC version... AWESOME, at least for PC version players. I seriously doubt we're going to have 1/4 of these graphics options on the consoles, but I can hope. I doubt I'm going to get my question answered about how the "Performance/Quality" options are going to be achieved on the console version.

Agreed, if you're going to do that, I think there should be a transition period time to fully change archetypes.

That is one of the more realistic looking screens I've seen, and perhaps the best motion capture.

I will say...I just read some rumblings from a NextMaker on Discord about how archetypes are actually not all that relevant, as you can "abuse" the fittings to make things all balance out...no matter which archetype you choose.

He used the tempo build that has the lowest base power in the game, and without fully min-maxing it, he got a number of clubs over 80% in all the forgiveness stats and at 95-100% in power...so it might not even really make that much of a difference.

As far as consumable golf balls...he said flight is the only stat that remotely matters, and the highest tier balls just straight up give you 15 yards of extra carry without any negative side effects. However, those balls cost 100 VC each round...which is more than you earn by playing the round. So you'll have to keep grinding outside of Society rounds or whatever if you want to keep getting those premium consumable balls that are the only ones that are worth it.
