HB has a track record of being cheap, no doubt. But they are now financially backed by 2K - they aren't indie devs any more. And you can see the money being injected into the last game with all those playable characters, more courses (courses like Pebble Beach and Pinehurst No. 2 probably have high costs attached to them), lots more brands of gear, etc.

I'd just like to see that money, especially the money used to get rights to people from entities like Barstool and "100 Thieves", put into improving the quality of the game and how it looks, bringing it more up to date in a lot of ways.
I dare say many of those celebrities were already in 2Ks back pocket from the NBA2K and WWE2K licensing deals.

I really appreciate that. Ya G2A came up right away for a great price, I had just never heard of it. I'll grab it now. Many thanks!

Very happy to report this--I just found out about Remote Play with the PS5. I can't believe I didn't know you could do this without that new gadget they are selling now that has a screen on the controller.

It took me only a few minutes to download the PS Remote Play app on my PC laptop, connect to my PS5 on the other side of town, and I'm now playing 2k23, EA PGA, MLB The Show, any game I want flawlessly from the hospital room. No lag, no issues, worked the first time. This is awesome technology.

Interesting news that relates to creation of digital replications of real golf courses...which would likely impact those made in the PGA 2K series' course creator:

The Birdie Bill, introduced by Congressmen from opposing parties, could protect golf courses from unauthorized digital recreations via copyright law.

Yeah, this could mean the end of the course creator. On the other end, a huge opportunity to build a game with a new engine for this generation of consoles.

The designers could make enough changes even to a LIDAR produced course where it would not infringe. Course designer goes the game dies.

Sure, but it all hinges on how much risk 2K would want to take. They already have had to censor course names in several of the titles in the series, and have pulled courses from the servers completely as well.

If the law is passed and penalties are more harsh, then what? We have already discussed how cheap HB/2K have been with the series...I doubt they want to have to beef up their legal fund to cover any potential copyright infringement lawsuit judgements.

I want the course designer to stay in the game, since it's great to have new courses to play all the time, but it seems this law could really make it hard to have 2K/HB allow players to build whatever courses they want.

I think the designer will stay in the game, but I'd imagine a lot of the assets and objects that are similar to those found on real courses get totally redesigned or outright removed in the next game to make it harder for course creators to replicate real-life tracks.

Can stop worrying about the course creator and get onto a new engine now!

(too cheap - I doubt they do it)

Well, apparently at this stage, that potential bill isn't changing anything for 2K/HB...

The one community designer HB hired a while back just commented on Discord about it:

"This isn’t going to change the designer one bit. There’s a terms of service the first time you open the course designer that protects the game and warns against recreating real courses. Or or just make your own original s***..."

So, there you go, I guess.

I would take a wait and see approach. A TOS agreement isn't some iron clad protection from everything. If people think they are profiting off things they shouldn't be, there will be consequences.

The real pressure on 2k can also come from real course partners they have in the game.

Many of those parties may not like being associated with a game that's "allowing" or in any way "enabling" piracy of IP and not doing much (or enough) to police it.

It's fine line particularly with actual course business partners in the game.

I found it a little bold for that HB employee to say that this bill wouldn't change anything with the 2K designer.

I mean, the bill specifically targets systems that allow users to make virtual recreations of real golf courses...and 2K's designer allows users to do just that, and has for years now. And 2K itself has done very little to stop it...I mean, just search for courses with "(L)" in them and you can see how many real LiDAR tracks are in the game.

So how could the bill NOT affect the designer if (and I know that's a big IF) it becomes law?

Funny I was under the impression the game had PS3 graphics so who could even tell.

Just has that same old "The Golf Club" (but slightly evolved over time) look to me.

It's all just tired at this point .. and they really need to fix the "shadows being way too dark" issue that has been a problem since the start.
Tough to name any sports game that isn't the same old same old.
