If ea played as good as it looked it would be a winner, unfortunately...

        Certainly fair

I'm only a couple days in, but having fun -- but using the game in a VERY limited fashion. Haven't touched single player anything

This is the whole reason I enjoy the fact there are two, very different PGA Tour golf games on the market now.

2K provides the 1:1 swing that provides "connected" gameplay where the outcomes are directly based on your input, plus a nearly unlimited list of courses to play - not to mention a designer where you can build your own.

EA provides a career mode with majors, as well as weekly/daily/seasonal tournaments and boatloads of challenges to complete, with pretty amazing graphics and a great list of real-world tracks to play.

I'm glad to have both, and play both every day.

That is definitely interesting stuff about that possible legislation, and like MAB said, how could it NOT apply to 2k, when that is exactly what they have been allowing for years?

Yes, the course creator is probably the best part of the 2k game, and I am very interested to see what they do with the next version if there is going to be one, but I can emphatically say that I won't have the slightest interest in it at all if they decide to try to squeeze one more release on that PS3 platform they use. If 2k doesn't move on to Frostbite or whatever nex-gen platform that games have been using for years, it's just going to be another repackaged version of the same game.

There have been a few times I've gone back to the 2k just to remember what it was like, and I can't get through one hole of it. Even though the EA game swing is too slow, the 2k game is ridiculously fast, and more importantly, the game looks like something from a decade ago. If they don't upgrade the engine, which I know means a complete re-write of the entire game, I have zero interest in it.

I really hope they do update it though, with the Devs moving from EA to 2k and other factors, 2k definitely seems better positioned to keep this series going and really make something special with it, whereas it's starting to feel like the EA game is a one and done thing. It's great, I love the game and can get my golf fix from it for years to come as long as I can still find online players to play against, but I really hope 2k moves things forward in a big way, even if that means the course creator is nixed.

It certainly won't be Frosbite, it's exclusive to EA. 2K is using the Unreal engine for their NBA game, it would be a huge improvement for their PGA game.

Thanks for that info, you guys are the only reason I even know terms like Frostbite (other than my son lol). You get the point though...2k simply MUST move on from the Unity engine. It's done, and was done a very long time ago.

They could come up with some of the most clever and cool things that nobody has ever thought about to improve a golf video game, revolutionary gameplay advancements, etc., but if it's still in Unity, it's dead on arrival for me.

I'm curious what the 2k NBA game looks like. Are you saying 2k has already been using Unreal, or they are going to be using it for the new NBA game next year? Any other 2k sports games already released that use Unreal? I wanna see what that looks like, regardless of the sport. I'll search for some youtube 4k videos.

And if 2k has been using Unreal for past games, what has been stopping them from using it for 2k23? The course designer limitations? Budget concerns for a fringe game to rewrite the whole thing?

I have NBA 2K24, and think the graphics in that game pretty much blow PGA 2K23 out of the water:

                      vs.

Ya last night I went on youtube and found some gameplay videos in 4k. Astounding. If 2k goes with the Unreal engine for the golf game, it could really be something special as long as they get the gameplay right with a complete re-write. Fingers crossed.

While definitely a possibility, let’s not forget that a game engine is only a canvas… it doesn’t automatically make games pretty or even good.

EA 23 is on frostbite same as Madden 24 was, yet player models and faces are nowhere close to maddens nor is their even rain like in Madden.

It comes down to the game budget and devs I believe.

Shoot--NBA 2K23 graphics blow PGA Tour 2K23 graphics out of the water. And that's the problem: if you have some PS4 games and PGA Tour 2K23 was the only PS5 game you had, I could see you being content. But once you play and get your eyes accustomed to something like NBA 2K23 (or 24) on PS5, and then play PGA Tour 2K23.....that's when the let down occurs because you know what 2K is capable of doing.

Shoot— NBA2K14 on PS4 blows 2K23 out of the water….

Ironically both came out around winter 2013/Spring 2014….

The thing is 2K23 at its core is an indie game that was never even meant to be a AAA game. Nobody even knew it existed outside of our circle until the rebrand to 2K21 happened.

I honestly don’t see 2K putting in the resources to get pga to look as good as NBA2K, which is disappointing but the golf gaming community is so niche….

Live 10 blows 2k Golf out of the water but it's about gameplay. Don't hold your breath on a new engine it ain't worth it for 2k for a niche sport and a niche video game space.
