This is the bit that specifically calls out where you unlock the shot type for all archetypes - it says the same for all of the archetype-specific skills:



However, you still need to get other MyPlayers up to 85 before equipping it, and have to pay the skill points to access it.

OK, so it will unlock it for all archetypes. So once you have every build at 85, the skills are available regardless of your build. You'll be able to have a powerhouse drive and easier putting, for example.

The only differences will be how the attributes are balanced. Which, thankfully there is a give and take to that.*

I guess this stuff only matters for online, if they wanted to create truly distinctive player types. That goes out the window with this.

Offline we might want to implement some EA style house rules once we're too leveled up.

*Edit: well, unless club progression cancels that out anyway.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to feel about this personally. On one hand I do like that it makes you play with the other archetypes if you want to have their shot types unlocked for all characters, it could make the initial progression of each character more fun. But it also eliminates some of the uniqueness that each archetype could have, which along with however the fittings end up working could make archetypes blend together in the end.

Downloaded the demo earlier. Haven't even played it yet.

Decided to read through this thread, and have come to the conclusion to stick with EA.

I'm a super casual fan, and EA is more than enough to fill my golf needs. Really disliked TGC and 2K21, and the impressions in this thread have made it sound like more of that.

Seamount played Binkz in a 9-hole match-play event at Royal Portrush...Seamount as Max Homa and Binkz as Tony Finau. It did show that there is now a "Concede Putt" option when your opponent is putting:

Royal Portrush definitely seems to play more like a links course here, larger bounces and rollout on the fairway with drivers, woods, and irons shown here. They weren’t hitting the green with any of their longer irons so we couldn’t see how those interact with the green, but this is pretty much what I wanted from links courses in the game.

The only negative I see is there are some drive bounces out of fescue-textured rough that felt too big and too forgiving, it seems that the fescue here is mostly just second cut with a different look (although there was a shot on 11 with a long iron that landed in heavy rough and stopped quick). I feel like that might make these links courses play a bit too easy off the tee and hurt how punishing they can be, their fescue doesn’t seem as crazy as Royal Liverpool’s but I don’t feel like drives should bounce as much as that even if it was off a downslope.

In the pause/profile menu, go to the "Settings" section, there's an option at the bottom of the list to "Redeem Locker Code". You type the codes in there, and make sure they are all caps, all one word.

Gave it another whirl last night while killing a little time:

- I think it's actually pretty cool that you can play the ball down a hole that isn't the one you are playing if it's advantageous to do so. For example, I was playing #15 and you could hit the ball down #11 fairway to give you an easier/longer layup if you so choose.

- Temporary Immovable Obstructions still aren't dealt with; I hit a big Judge Smails slice behind the grandstands on #17, and I just had to hit a bank shot off of the stands that went backwards behind me, since I was completely blocked out by the grandstands. That should have been a free drop for TIO.

- The short game utterly befuddles me. I have no idea why some of my chips and bunker shots go 4 feet, despite only being off the 'target' power by 1-2%. I don't feel like there is any 'feel' to the short game, but I would concede it's possible that I just don't understand the swing mechanic under those circumstances. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong with the short game, but it's an automatic 3-4 stroke penalty if I don't hit a green. It's pretty bad when I am confident I could do better in real life than on a game (!). Note that I'm not saying it should be easier, just that I don't understand how to reliably hit chips/bunker shots/short 'specialty' shots using the swing mechanic in this game.

I'd say to head to the training range and go to the short-game area. It took me awhile when the demo first came out to really get an idea on how the short game works. I still don't have it down completely, but by just repeating the chip shots, I at least became a bit more consistent.

Totally off topic here but the EA PGA thread is dead...is it just me, or is there now new intro music for the EA game, and a few other subtle changes? Has anyone seen/read about them tickling with the game during this 2k rollout?

These aren't working for me, any idwa how long they last? Also is it just the wording you enter or the 600 vc as well. Nothing seems to work.😥
