And I have too little free time and too many sports games I like to play to actually dedicate myself to the learning curve of a true racing sim with a wheel.
I haven't hooked my wheel up yet (it's such a hassle to setup and my wife pitches a fit when I don't put it up right after I'm though... it takes a great game to make it worth the effort - this one will get the effort tonight ). The controller is working very well for me so far. It defaults to 70% linearity, which I found just a tad bit unresponsive. I could compete with it there, but the car didn't feel as lively as I'd like with it there, so I bumped it up to 75%. I think you'll be surprised at how well they've implemented the gamepad compared to last year.

You sure? I swear I have a silver account (my CC expired this spring and I forgot to change the CC at my Live renewal date) and I downloaded it earlier.

This feels like a pretty substantial improvement so far. After bumping up controller linearity a bit, maneuvering the car works out pretty nicely. The presentation seemed pretty solid, too. I can definitely see myself running a few more races in the demo before the game even comes out, which is a far cry from trying the 08 demo once and realizing there was no way I was going to be able to play it with a controller.

Guess it's time to start painting a car.

Downloading the demo right now....pretty interested to see if they have moved in the right direction. I haven't raced a NASCAR game since the old Papyrus days, so it would be nice to get back into the racing again.

As a side note: Anyone wanna give me their impressions on this game with the MS Wheel? Also: Anyone had the wheel for some time now tell me how well it's held up? I hate to shell out $100 for one and have it be something that really only lasts a few months before it starts getting "loose".

Well, at least that's how it was a month ago. (New demo downloads for Silver account members were delayed for 1 week.)

3 negatives i'm reading from other forums (though overall very positive responses):

-no bumps in the road. hopefully something taken out for faster download.

-engine sounds flat at high rpms (again hopefully sacrificed for demo size)

-VTV hard to read compared to '08

just gave the demo a 2nd twirl with the increased difficulty settings and less assists for steering and i gotta say im pretty blown away by the game, i upped the laps to 10%, qualified poorly on purpose and had a good time maneuvering thru traffic, those hendrick cars are monsters

havent heard anyone mention the challenge modes yet as they are a ton of fun, theres 4 in the demo

1-stay above 170 mph on daytona which was cake
2-avoid a wreck without hitting anything or going off the track which is well done
3-enter the pit lane at a certain speed which is good practice
4-go from 10th to 2nd by drafting in 2 laps with a draft timer that forces you to really use the draft which is a blast

they remind me of the challenges on the old thunder game, check em out if u have the demo they are under game modes

Yeah those were the days...I had a Logitech MOMO wheel I sold a few months ago that I used with NR2003 and GPL. After playing the EA demo, as I suspected, you really need a wheel for the full effect of NASCAR. But it's good to hear that it's well built so if the game generally gets some good reviews here I may have break down and get one. If this game truly supports 14 racers and does it well, then I might be hooked. The old days of league racing with NR03 were hard to beat and I'd love to do it again.

I like driving with the steering wheel view but the game is boring just going around in circles. After 3 laps i deleted the demo.
