Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29

    Okay more impressions:

Last year I used 100% for linear and my racing wheel picked up the feel of the road and it was very responsive. This year for the 09' demo, I have to run at 70% for the wheel as there is a dead spot in the middle which makes it virtually unplayable. The main issue I have with the demo is that you can hardly feel the surface of the road using the Microsoft wheel. That is a big disappointment if the final copy controls this way!

Seriously, I am not seeing a whole lot of difference between last year's game and this year's demo. Yes, the AI cars respond better but really, I am sitting around wondering what they spent the whole year doing? Many of the cutscenes and sounds are similar. Right now I feel that we may be only getting a minor upgrade from last year but I will hold my final judgement for when the actual game is played.

Well, i dont have a wheel and use the controller and its a 100% improvement from last year. Perhaps thats where they spent a good deal of time (not to mention the noticeable AI improvement).

Man this is hard to put to words for some reason.lol

Think of it as how far you are turning a steering wheel. How ever far you move your joytick means how far the steering wheel is moving. So with linearity set at 100 your stick movement will be super sensitive. So even the slightest movement simlulates turing the stering wheel a lot. Most people using a joystick keep linearity around 25. Always somewhere below 50. This way you can make smooth turns and you dont have to jerk back and forth to keep a clean line in turns.

As for impressions. The game is better than last year. AI mainly. But seriously, with EA's resources this game should be 10 times better all around. At the very least the graphics should be waaaaaaaay better and the enviroment of the game as well. We have got to get competition back in sports gaming.

I think the graphics ARE an improvement. last year there were jaggies in the back of the car window! this year smooth and the environements ARE nicer. the grass stadiums and lighting are all majorly improved and definately look great in 720p!

I went from totally passing on this game this year to totally getting it release day because of such a strong demo and hoepfully for us all the full game is just as good if not better if it is WOOHH racing GOTY here

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed since I didn't read all the pages, but the one thing that always bothers me about this series is the damage modeling. Why can't they seem to get this right visually?

The graphics don't wow me either (it's kind of like FIFA though where the surrounding stuff is nice, but the main element, players -- or cars in this case -- are just alright looking). I don't think I could ever get into a NASCAR game either way but as more of an outsider these are the things that tend to bother me since I don't have any real knowledge of how the game should feel driving-wise.

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29

I liked the demo. It's definitely an improvement over last year regarding the driving model and AI actually sensing your presence. One thing that I'm wondering about is how hard I'll have to set the actual difficulty.

I'm pretty familiar with Daytona so I was able to win that one with AI difficulty on "hard" and my car set at "Legend".

Not being familiar with Lowe's I had to keep running practice laps until I could get a decent feel for it. Once done, I could pretty much beat the AI on "normal" difficulty regardless of car setup, but could barely hang in the middle of the pack with AI on "hard" regardless of car setup.

                  Great demo though.

Keep in mind most racing games have 10, 15, 20 cars to render, plus a road course or something that you can only see portions of most of the time. NASCAR games have to render 43 cars, plus pace car, etc. It's a "Gears of War vs GTA" type of argument. It has to render a bunch more for a NASCAR field, so you will take minor hits in the graphics department per car. It still looks worlds better than past years did, though.

you really are into grass. But I do agree, the demo plays better than the full version of 08. this is a day 1 purchase for me. I think that the graphics look pretty damn good and this is only a demo.

I think you misinterpreted my post. I didnt say the graphics were NOT an improvement. I didnt say the atmosphere was NOT improved. I said they could be waaaaaaaaaaaay better. Which they can and SHOULD be. There are other games on the market that graphically blow this game out of the water. It s not even funny. And the damage in this game still is not even remotely close to realistic.

And the sad thing is for a NASCAR game you dont even need to design but three different cars really! Structurally all these vehicles in each series are identical. The other games have to design HUNDREDS and they look way better. And far more realistic.

Were talking about a billion dollar company here with unlimited resouces. It is obvious they throw very little money and effort towards the developement of this game.

If they tried this game could easliy be almost like watching NASCAR on television.

And yes . I will play the hell out of this game. It is vastly improved over last years.

I do realize this is a demo but the graphics did not wow me at all..needless to say I'm excited to get the game, the car tracks well and its not ultrasensitive

I also agree with your comment on the graphics. They look so much better on the 360 compared to the PS3. I'll be picking it up for the 360.

I'm kinda torn on which system to pick it up for. On one hand the graphics are much better on 360 compared to PS3, however I have been playing my PS3 a lot more lately and have kinda let my 360 start to gather dust. Also playing the demo a little bit on PS3 today, I seemed to have a little better luck controlling the car than I did on the 360 version, but it could have been the way that I had the settings on 360.

Personally I would wait to see, the demo for some games really doesn't show how it'll be. For MX Vs ATV, the demo was horrible with screen tears but the actual game was good
