Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
Someone above said the AI was racing on Legend but that is the driving assists and physic level for your car. Press X at the track selection screen and you can adjust the AI skill level and they do run faster...not any smarter - just faster.Comment

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
You're comparing this to the atrocious Nascar Revolution...because of the replays? In the demo? I haven't seen where they said that the replays would be limited...but it makes sense in a demo. I just don't know what to say. To each his own, I guess. To lump what I played last night in with Nascar Revolution is pretty crazy imo.
Nascar Revolution was indeed a bad first attempt, but it had so much promise and it gave many of us Nascar fans hope for the future. I don't feel that Nascar racing from EA is a next gen product. Take an arcade game like GRID for instance. In my mind, there is no reason that the bright minds at EA could deliver this type next gen Nascar sim to us.
At this point, that would probably require starting from scratch. That's something I am not used to from EA.

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
I like the impressions guys!!!
I am downloading now and am very excited from reading the impressions! I hope this will be the first NASCAR game I have enjoyed in years. I am a big NASCAR fan and I have never had my NASCAR fix truly before since NASCAR 2005. (My computer sucks too much to run NR 2003, LOL!)
And with that...the download is complete!Comment

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
I didn't own last years game, but I plan on buying this years. One question though - Do the real drivers have different paint schemes with their cars? If so, a lot of them?
I just remember Nascar 2004 and all of the different old school drivers and new school drivers with tons of paint schemes.I post the frog

In addition you can paint your own on your PC and upload them into the game - and even use them online according to the demo.Comment

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
My impression of the demo is nostalgic of NASCAR 2005, which was my favorite console racing game so far. The handling of this years seems to incorporate actual racing , side by side. In multiplayer in last years game you couldn't make it through a corner side by side without pulling a caution in a quick match online, hopefully this makes the play more steady and allows for CoOpatition online. The graphics are well done for a NASCAR game, and I hope that track personalities (read: bumps in the track, etc) are in the final cut. The lack of a career mode has been announced to be improved, but I doubt they've surpassed the NASCAR Thunder excellence when it comes to single player. All in all I was sold on it, 'nuff said.Playing sim is a disadvantage? I beg to differ:
150-36 Madden 09 Record.
20-4 Madden 10 Record.
24-8 Madden 12 Record.Comment

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
I owned last years game and for awhile it was OK. it really seems (and this is HOPING the final retail cpy is) that they've been able to really polish up the game in many graphical ways and controlwise. the presentation looks real cool as well as the ability now to import skins . i really am hoping the final product is as good as the demo. meaning all the tracks have the same care put into them...Brand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment

I think the game controls good, the demo was ok to me! I do think the graphics were kind of weak! But the cockpit view while driving is real nice! Other than that! Demo was cool, not terrible by any means! But yeah the graphics are definitely weak, compared to other driving games already out, and a few coming out.Comment

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
Downloaded the Demo this morning on Xbox Live and here are my impressions using the controller:
Btw: I played on legend with all assists off.
Positives:
~You can now run multiple lines on the track without the herky jerky using the controller that would always cause you to wreck, especially if you hit the apron.
~ With damage set to full and all flags to on, I really felt it was much more of a realistic race than last year's damage model. I was able to bang around more without the car becoming completely destroyed. In a way that is good and another that is bad. Yes, the COT can take more of a beating but I could really get into the side of another car and it left little damage to my car in general. Still a demo but I am wondering how close this will be to the final product.
Negatives:
~ Graphics look better but not by much in my opinion. Lowes had some nice night driving lights and Daytona had the sun reflecting into the car. Not a big leap for anyone looking for Xbox 360 to up the stakes. Keep in mind, I must disclose that I DO NOT have a HDTV so I might be missing a whole lot here!
~ Damage model might be too forgiving as last year it only took the wind to blow to cause damage. This year, you have to wreck it off several cars, a wall, and you will still probably be okay once you have pitted. I'm sure you can really tear up a car but honestly, I do not drive like a maniac so for me, it is going to take a lot to put me out of the race. I also found it odd that I could drive my car in between two others and completely avoid any touching for as long as I stayed steady. Once again, that is concerning to me as now we have the opposite from last year's game and now the AI will not be aggressive.
~I noticed that I could use last years racing setup for Daytona and I was able to finish first with the max laps of 33 with X4 wear on that required 2 pit stops.
~ Noticed for the most part, only Kevin Harvick ran a different groove for most of the race.
~ Accident replays do not show enough as it is exactly like last year's where it would only show up to a few seconds worth. I really would love to see how it all plays out.
~ You can only review the top 10 during pit stops which is exactly like TV but still, let me scroll down if I like so I can see where some of the big dogs are at.
Overall: I am really enjoying the demo. I am about to hook up my Microsoft wheel to see how it really plays. My hope is that rivarly mode will be a big plus in the final product along with reputation. Meaning if I cause someone else to have an accident, then I should expect them to not race me clean especially in the closing laps.

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
More impressions this time using the Microsoft Wheel:
Used my setup for Lowes from last year................didn't work! My best qualification was 37 out of 42 on Legend, full damage, wear x4.
Started a 33 lap race multiple times and the best I could do was 7th. Having played just Lowes for nearly 3 hours, I have come to the conclusion that I absolutely suck at this game using the racing wheel. I will need to work on my race setup once the full game arrives on shelves. For the one who said that the bumps did not exist this year, well..........they do exist. It was causing tons of problems as once my rear tires started to wear down, the Lowes dip would send me sideways and into the infield. I also had great difficulty passing without really tearing the crap out of my car. Not to mention caution flags and the occasional black flag for running into everyone.
Here are a few interesting things that happened:
1) I spun my wheels on a restart causing JJ Yeley to get into the back of me thus sending me head first into the wall.
2) Multiple cars running multiple lines made it near impossible for me to pass cleanly.
3) I blew up once for having my grille tape at 60% with 2 laps remaining of a 33 lap race. Oil temps soared and I blew up in 13th place to finish 43rd.
4) Little concerning but hopefully it is just the demo, but NO cars failed to finish any of the races except me.
5) I once seen Kyle Petty flip up into the air only to land and get nailed by about 4 cars. Still had no problem finishing the race even though technically his car should have been done for the night.
6) Noticed sparks flying over my hood caused by the front left splitter plowing in the turns. Nothing new this year but it seems to be more dramatic.
7) Ran out of fuel once to slowly coast around to barely make it back to the pits. That was kind of funny.Last edited by Rules; 05-31-2008, 10:50 PM.Comment

Re: NASCAR 09 Demo May 29
Good question! I went back and noticed that on 08' I was maxed at 10. So that would explain my problems with Lowes and the wheel as I was using 7 for the demo. I will max it back out and see if I can drive better with the wheel.
Btw: Played some 08' tonight and it seems that I could feel more of the road with the wheel than I could with the 09' demo.Comment
