From the Hungary GP
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has damaged his skull and will need surgery after his car slammed into a wall during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
His team said Saturday the 28-year-old Brazilian was airlifted to a hospital and will remain under observation in intensive care following the operation.
The team said Massa's condition was stable, and that he was conscious when he arrived at the hospital.
A spring that had fallen off Rubens Barrichello's Brawn GP car flew up and struck Massa in the helmet, apparently dazing him as the Ferrari continued straight through a curb, across the track and through the gravel area alongside the circuit before slamming into a row of protective tires that line the circuit wall.
"Felipe was just very unlucky," teammate Kimi Raikkonen said. "It was just an unlucky situation."
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali told Italian TV that Massa would not race Sunday.
Barrichello, a fellow Brazilian, went to the medical center to check on Massa's condition and said the Ferrari driver appeared to be doing fine.
"He was very agitated," Barrichello told Brazil's Globo TV. "He had a cut in his head, which could have been from the part of my car that was on the track. He was talking, was conscious, but they have to analyze the cut."
Massa appeared to regain control of the car just before the crash at turn No. 4 as his front brakes were locked upon the violent impact.
The 28-year-old Massa stayed in the car for a considerable time and it was unclear whether he required assistance in getting out, before he was taken away on a stretcher.
The front of his Ferrari was shredded, with both tires having come off and the front nose open.Comment

It's fantastic that he's come out of this relatively unscathed. He should miss a few races, maybe the rest of the season, but thank God he's ok.
The front of his car was not 'shredded'. it was barely damaged at all in the impact. That was when I knew he had been knocked out, because the nose of the car, apart from the very tip, was fine.Supporting Leeds United, Colorado Rockies, Detroit Lions and the Colorado Avalanche!

Shoot a driver in F2 just died a few days ago when a tire hit him in the head, knocked him unconscious and he went full speed into a wall.
Even after he crashed his foot never left off the gas.
What a nasty way to die.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Yeah it wasn't a pleasant video to watch. His visor came up after the crash, but thankfully you couldn't see his face as he passed the camera cause that woulda been way to depressingComment

Schumacher back in a Ferrari
ROME -- Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is making a comeback for Ferrari to replace injured driver Felipe Massa.
Ferrari said Wednesday in a statement that the German had agreed to get back in the cockpit until Massa is fit to return.
Schumacher said: "Though it is true that the Formula One chapter has long been closed for me, it is also true that for team loyalty reasons I cannot ignore that unfortunate situation."
The 28-year-old Massa was hit in the helmet by a loose part from another car and crashed into a protective tire barrier at 120 mph during qualifying Saturday at the Hungarian Grand Prix.Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
IRL released their 2010 schedule this week. Couple of new races at Barber and one in Brazil, and they dropped the Richmond and Milwaukee races.
The thing that caught my eye is that the Kansas race is moving a week later, and moving to a Saturday day slot, and the Truck race is going to be Sunday.Guess we just have to do things backwards here in Kansas.

Wow surprised they drop both short tracks, though admittedly I don't know much about the tracks they added, I'm assuming their not short tracks.Comment

I really wasn't surprised to see them drop either track. Milwaukee is, or at one point was, closing down, and Richmond was BORING.Comment

EDIT: Luca Badoer to race in Valencia. Interesting (By interesting I mean WTF?) choice.
