What I clearly see is why so many people are divided in terms of this game. The offline is certainly a stronger part of the game. If comparing it to last year's game and other CONSOLE ONLY Nascar games, it fairs pretty well.

Visually, the game is the best of any NASCAR game I have seen on a console and even PC for that matter.

In regards to the lingering issues from NTG 11, I think the AI is better than last year as a whole with certain re-occuring problems from last year still rearing their ugly heads. I feel like the restarts have been smoothed out quite a bit but the brake checking does occur with certain tracks more than others. Texas and Atlanta in turn 1 for example is in need of a patch to get it right.

The one constant problem I noticed was the AI pulling out onto the track after a green flag pit stop and not merging over. They literally just push all the way over to the wall and are not up to full speed yet. This led to numerous cautions.

The handling I feel is a better model than last year's game but still not up to the level of simulation experienced in Iracing or Formula 1. IMO the best Simulation console game for proper racing is F1 by Codemasters.

NTG:IL is certainly not on that level of sim but there are some interesting simulation aspects to this game that make it about 60/40 sim/arcade.

    OFFLINE

Here is what i do like:

    -Changing weather(temp)
-the brakes fading during a race
-the level of difficulty on hard and champion
-the handling being better than last year
-More camera angles to choose from
-The rearview mirror on all cameras
-the Full Race weekend with the option to set practice time
-The analysis of your runs when working on a set up
-The tire read outs for each tire on screen with Inside,Middle,Outside
-Even with some re-existing problems, the AI is better
-The tracks are much more accurate than last years
    -The spotter is better
-More pit stop options than last year (Spring rubbers)

Here is what I think needs work (things to patch):
    -AI issues across the board
    -Online lag problems

Overall this game is better than last year's but not as good as F1 in terms of a full sim. After all this game is made only for consoles, while F1 2012 was also made for the PC.

    ONLINE:

I played one online race at Talladega with 8 people including one person from England in the room. The start was very strange as I started 4th but the first three cars had an enormous head start for some reason. Once the race did get started it wasn't bad, not nearly what I was expecting after seeing that crazy WTF video at Charlotte. It was an average experience which I think could maybe work better in a private room with some friends.

The Online needs work to get to the level of multiplayer we are all used to nowadays. In F1, it works very well even playing people from other countries. I can't really recommend NTG:IL to someone who is looking to race this game online only. I think a couple of patches might get it better, but IMO the offline is a much better experience with a possibility of improvement with a patch.

Overall the game is better than last year's game but still needs work to reach the level we were all expecting. I did have fun playing last night, but like I stated earlier, I went in with low expectations and just wanted to have some fun racing a Nascar game. I rented the game and for the offline experience alone I probably will buy it. I am also anticipating a couple of patches to get the game better.

That is my 2 cents after 6 hours with the game.

No one else seeing the AI going out if pits all the wsy to wall? Seen this on every track so far. Also consensus on level: hard or champion, and length if race to help some AI issues?

I have seen the AI veer over when they aren't up to speed yet, but I miss them each time and they haven't caused any wrecks yet to the AI.

More interesting cautions are when I 'wiggle' coming out of the pits on one of those pit lane exits that lasts awhile, like Homestead, with grass on each side. Wiggled a bit going a little too quick and got one or two tires in the grass for just a moment and that brought out a yellow. I actually laughed at that. Replacement referee as a race flagger LOL.

I picked up a PS3 version used copy at GStop. I will give it an honest run and return it if necessary.

Yeah I said before this was happening. The only place I have not seen it is Martinsville. I've raced twice there and both times when the AI came out they stayed at the bottem all the way to the next corner.

Re: I have the NASCAR The Game: Inside the Line

Managed to pick this up and I honestly love it (casual NASCAR fan here).

Raced purely online on Dega, 9 laps, great handling (cars feel a little "heavier IMO than the last game which is a good thing), damage is way more visible and a lot less glitchy than last year's release.

I love the thrill of drafting this year, when you get close to the opponent's bumper there's this thrill and adrenaline that I hadn't experienced in other racers (well thats NASCAR but this game replicates it so well).

            The online cons:

-I can't seem to create a session (I keep getting failed to create session), these services need to be jacked up!

            - I also keep getting put into sessions whereby people are already racing and I gotta wait for them to finish, better matchmaking needs to be implemented. And they need to patch something in so that waiters in the lobby can at least observe the race rather than just sitting in the lobby.

Apart from that a solid racer and a definite step up from last year.

              ^^^ PS3 or 360?

I've tried playing it on PS3 and I would have to consider it unplayable on the majority of the tracks.

-It's fun as all heck when it works, which is about 60-70% of the time. AI coming out of the pits, checking up in the tri-ovals, and tire/fuel wear need to be addressed. (Wear/fuel settings only seem to affect human controlled cars.)

-Kentucky, LV and Atlanta were a disaster... AI kept checking up going into turn 1 and 4 on the aforementioned tracks. I was so let down, I simply hit the power button on the PS3 and walked away.

-I love the spotter's awareness! He is on the spot and very convincing. The cars sound beastly and the swooshing of the fences is very engaging and adds to the sense of speed.

-You can run multiple race-lines depending on your setup and driving style. It's a blast trying to find a line that works.

With that said, the online is broken and the AIs need to be dialed in. Will they patch it? I hope so because the moments I did enjoy were on par with iRacing, NR2003, Thunder and Forza.

I don't think it's that bad were it's unplayable. I just finished a race at Vegas and not once did anybody check up in the corners on me. I just did a race before that at Phoenix and it was awesome, lots of side by side racing, I enjoyed it a lot.

I agree with the AI pitting, it's bad. I like the game overall I think it is a big improvement from last year, although there still seems to be a ways to go to get it to where it should be.

I'm playing on hard right now with tire wear and fuel at x3, and right now I'm running 10% races. Everyone has to pit with those settings at least once. I have all assists on full except braking which is off, and steering help which is off also. Usually I don't run any assist but because the setups are broken when you adjust your wedge and track bar I find it better to use them. I use the preset adjustments and then just practice and make my adjustments off those, but I don't touch the wedge and the trackbar. Usually for me the preset adjustments are to tight for what I like so I have to loosen the car up.

Re: I have the NASCAR The Game: Inside the Line

After getting some more hours in, I have noticed more issues with the AI. At certain tracks they are not only in a conga line but hugging the bottom like it is the only line around the track. I saw this at Texas where they really should be spread out running low, middle and high. California actually runs properly with cars spreading out and using all four lanes.

Martinsville and Richmond are really bad in terms of the conga line. I understand everyone wants the bottom but at some point the AI need to get out of line and race each other.

Kansas is a really strange one. There is a low and high conga line where no one tries to pass anyone. There is a middle lane that no AI uses at all.

As far as Las Vegas goes, I thought it was cool to see some AI go on the apron at the start/finish line. The problem I saw was way too many cars began to do it and when they would come back on the track there is very little respect for the person running the high side (not so much between AI but when the user is on the high side).

I truly hope these issues and the others being reported can be addressed because there are moments in this game that feel really good and others that completely take you out of the immersion of racing a good nascar game.

At Martinsville that is how they really run. I think that is one of the most realalistic tracks there is. They race in a line and then you see some passing, then the line again.

I would agree Cuse. I ran 100 lapper there and felt like it was one of the tracks that best represented a real life track. Very hard to pass inside as every car was fighting to stay inside. When I did have inside track though, the AI cars would reluctantly give in and let me make my move.

For the most part, this has been my experience as well, at all the tracks I've run. I like that the AI does yield to me if I nose in underneath CLEANLY, and fight to earn that spot.

Happily, I've had some experiences where the AI actually forgives me a bit for overrunning a situation, especially charging a little too fast between cars on a SS. Not ALWAYS the case, though. And for variety, the AI will occasionally pinch me on when I try to 'Cole Trickle' on the outside along the wall and answer with a little 'Rowdy' move of their own LOL. Usually well deserved on my part.
