    I don't know, but can the PS3 take HDD's larger than 500GB?

No, I believe 500GB is the limit.

Okay thanks for letting me know before I went with something bigger. So I was hearing that 5400 RPM is the appropriate speed to use as opposed to 7200 RPM so I'll go with that. A 320GB HDD should be fine, but I have a lot of music and want to back up some video files onto there and such. Plus I want as many demos and such on there as possible, and installed games, etc. I've been optimizing my memory for a long time so it's time that I upgrade, and I want this upgrade to stick.

So a 320GB, 5400 RPM SATA HDD. Seagate? WD? Any impressions on your own HDD? Thanks for any help.

Hey guys. I'm having some sort of problem with my PS3. When I turn it on, it doesn't go to the home screen. I just get a black screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you on a TV with an incorrect resolution or cable from what you were once on? Like if I moved my PS3 from an HDTV to an SDTV and used composite cables, I think it would give me a black screen because it recognizes the HDMI 1080i input setting.

Did you do anything like that?

You can go w/ 7200, but they get too hot from what I read. I have a WD in mine, 5400 RPM. If you have movies and music, go w/ the 500 like Altimus said is the limit.

Seagate is solid, I always go with Western Digital as I've never had issues with their HDDs and they are super quiet.

As far as the RPM, 7200 is faster but tests have shown it won't be a drastic difference on the PS3 in game installations and loading. The other part is the PS3 will now run warmer. Since it is a video game system and not a computer I'd stick with the 5400 no doubt.

Do you hear the opening intro music?

Either way when you turn on your PS3, hold down the power button until you hear a beep. This will reset the resolution incase something got messed up with the settings.

Okay, then it sounds like I can make some good assumptions by that and supply links here, just asking if all of them are suitable for the PS3.

Thanks for all of your help, by the way.

I unplugged my HDMI cable and hook up the component cables and it did the exact same thing. I'm not getting the intro music. When I turn it on, it goes to a black screen. I'll try the power button method you suggested and get back to you. Thanks man.

I don't think you can switch from HDMI to Component without changing the settings, so do what Altimus said, just hold down the power button for like 10 seconds on start-up, and you will hear a beep.

This resets your Resolution settings, so incase you messed up, this will set it to default.

Also, make sure your TV is on the right input channel. It's easy to mess up, so go through each one slowly to see if you are getting a picture on a different input.
