Stupid that Sony needs the receipt, they are aware that people can buy these units from more sources then just a brick and mortar retail store right? Secondly, not every store has the serial number on the receipt anyways so if thats not there then what good does having a receipt do? It seems like a stupid attempt at Sony to throw a monkey wrench into things to make it more difficult then it should be, and possibly avoid replacing some units if that person doesnt have a receipt.

Has the person from ebay said they mailed it yet? If not, I hate to say it, but I doubt your going to see it, he/she really has nothing to force them to send it to you if they dont feel like it. Assuming you told Sony you bought it off of Ebay, they then told you that you needed a receipt? I would call and talk to someone with some authority and see what can be done. Besides ebay, there is craigs list as well so there are multiple avenues for which to buy from with a receipt not being present, Sony needs to pull their head out of their *** and help their customers.

Did you have an import 360?

You know where I'm going with this... You're expecting Sony US to fix a system from Japan... common sense would tell you that the technicians can fix it, but if it's their policy not to fix imported systems... that's their policy.

I don't see how you can get upset at them when you decided to import a system knowing the risks...

With that said, why don't you buy a PS3 on credit, DON'T OPEN IT, then send it in with that receipt. I believe they only ask for a copy.

If they wont fix it, then give him the info to send it to where they will, surely there is a department that handles international returns and repairs. The rep he spoke to doesnt sound like he offered much in the way of help.

The person I bought it from on ebay bought it from playntrade in Arizona. So, yes it is an import, but it was purchased brand new in this country. I know it was dumb to get an import, but now I'm so frustrated I need to do something.

Alright, so with my HTiB receiver I'm using HDMI audio, so for the PS3 settings, under HDMI, should I have it set to Automatic and let it check everything including 7.1, or should I set it to Manual and uncheck those 7.1 settings? Will the PS3 & game recognize that I don't have 7.1, or what?

Also, how would I know whether my receiver/speakers are capable of like 192 kHz? Automatic detects no more than like 88.2. Should I check it and try it? Because they say my speakers can get damaged if I do that.

I have the Samsung HT-AS720.

That receiver doesn't support HD audio, it'll play 7.1, but not Dolby True HD or uncompressed audio. At least according to the reviews I read.

I'd let the PS3 automatically determine the output.
