Yikes, this doesn't look good, I was really considering going this route. Wow.

Removing the old HDDs from their casing, for use in a 360 S console or other reason, is against the ToU, hardware tampering and modification. At no time is this tolerated. Modifying your hardware can lead to account suspensions or console bans.

Now, might have to go the 250gb model route. I guess I'm confused. Can you buy the 4 gb Slim and then purchase a 250 gb hd and install it to the $4 GB slim system?

Road, you won't get into trouble man so your good. People have been using these 3rd party and even home made HDD's for years on the 360 and MSFT hasn't done a thing to them. Many of us on OS would of gotten into trouble by now, look through some of the threads how many bought these cheaper HDD's. You can't just buy any old 250gb HDD and slap it in there, its a certain Western Digital that can only be used......why I recommend just buying it for $40-50 from a 3rd party seller.

        Zombie, just making sure.

That warning put the scare into me.

So, I'll be good taking out the new 4gb and putting the old 20gb into the new Slim?

        Thanks.

I did this last month when my 4th, old-style, 360 died. I cracked open my 120 gig, popped it in my new 4 GB slim, and have had no problems. The only issue I noticed was that I had to re-install any games I had installed with the previous console. Otherwise, it would read from the disc.

By the way, you'll love the slim. It is night and day better than the old hardware.

I can vouch for that. Just had my year old slim repaired and it was the lazer that was replaced in it.

No problem Road, I understand. Here is a tutorial on how to do this, pretty easy.

                  Re: New Xbox 360

Thanks everyone for all your advice. It was greatly appreciated on this end.

We decided to go for the 250gb system. Here's why:

Retails for $299.00. We had a $50.00 gift certificate for BB, plus, the boys traded in 11 games and we received an extra 25% and the games came out to $41.25 in a gift card. Plus, I had $10.00 in reward points, so, that knocked off just over 100 bucks and it was in the range of the 4gb model. 2 games included, plus the extra hd space made this a practical buy that we couldn't say no to.

The only issues from transferring data were 9 files didn't make it over because of corruption and they were from MW 3(oops, son hopes it was the campaign) and the profile was the corrupt the first time we downloaded it. Called xbox and they suggested to re-download.

Everything is up and running. This Slim will probably go to our son in college a year after this year. Then, it's just and the youngest one and we will probably purchase another one.

If we didn't get all the discounts, probably would have opted for the 4gb and transferred the old HD to the new one like the method above.

Enjoy it, Road. You'll love how quiet it is compared to the old 360's.

                        Ok, updating this puppy.

This is probably an easy solution, except, I'm not seeing it.

We have the Slim as noted above. We just bought college bound son a new HD Toshiba TV. We've noticed the Tohiba TV doesn't have a yellow input(video) that the slim has.

                        Any solutions or thoughts?

The Toshiba has two blues, a few whites and a few reds.

                        Thanks.

We have direct TV, but we are not switching to a DirectTV HD receiver with this TV because he will taking the TV to college 9 months of the year.

Edit- Just for grins, I thought about looking in the box and sure enough, there were some other cables in the box. I'm sure that's what it's for. There is a switch for TV and HDTV.

                          Terry,

If you going the component route, you really don't need the yellow cable. That is for standard def signal. The Blue, Green, Red video cables then the white/red audio cables is all you really need.

The yellow is composite and that is pretty much outdated and being done away with since it is old tech.

Okay, I really need a new 360. I have the original arcade with a 60GB Hard Drive attached. The reason I need one is because my AC Adapter (The big thing that looks like a brick) sounds like a lawnmower! Is it worth buying a new xbox with the new one apparently coming out next year? Or can I just get a new adapter?

I'd hit up ebay for the power supply if it was me.

                                Dereck;

Thanks. We are always a decade behind the times.

We have two new HDTV's and everything seems foreign to me, lol. One of the Tv's is going off to college in August. We've been playing the 360 on standard tv all along, plus my wife isn't in favor of putting a HD directv receiver downstairs, since our son will be taking the tv 9 months of the year.(hard to argue that one)

New HD directv receiver will be ordered tonight for the new tv upstairs, hopefully.
