I bought a 4GB slim off a guy from Craigslist. He was selling a brand new one that he had received from purchasing a new laptop. Then, I bought a 250GB hard drive from someone for $55. Thus, I saved myself $100.

Check Craigslist for those college students who are trying to sell their 4GB slims. The only bad part is that the 4GB slim does not ship with the headset.

Good job on saving money. I'll have to do some browsing and see if I can find something like that. My refurb 360 works fine, but for cosmetic reasons, I'd rather have a black one.

Picked up a 4 GB w/Kinect at Best Buy today. I would have liked the 250 for the same price, but everyone in my family foolishly sought the kinect.

Excited to finally get this thing up and running and playing games like Forza 3 and Reach.

I did something similar. I won an eBay auction on a brand new 360 Slim 4GB for $170 shipped on eBay. I then bought a 250GB HD on Amazon for $45. I preffered the matte finish over the glossy finish anyway, but saving money makes it that much sweeter. I ended up selling my old PS3 Slim 120GB later for $180, so I pretty much got a brand new system for under $40 with more GB.

            No More Glossy Xbox 360

ooks like we won't see anymore high gloss Xbox 360s in the future. Microsoft is switching all finishes to matte instead. Here is what Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb had to say:

"We are actively transitioning all our Xbox 360 S consoles to a matte finish. The consoles will start to arrive in stores over the coming weeks, so if you really love the idea of a glossy console don't wait much longer."

I don't think so. The newer 360's have smaller, square-shaped hard drives. I could be wrong though.

You're right, old style 360 HD will not work in the new style 360. The only thing you can do is get the transfer kit to move things from old to new

It will work, you have to take the HDD out of the casing. Then you can order a 360 slim HDD casing off of ebay for $10-$20. You take that HDD and place it in the casing, boom, your ready to go.

There are tons of videos on youtube of guys cracking open the old fatboy 360 casing.

Wow! I did not know that. I can get a 20GB HD (Which is all I need) for $30. Really didn't want to spend high on a HDD.

A 20GB for $30? You can easily find a 250GB HDD on ebay for $50 shipped.

The one I bought came with its own HDD enclosure and was properly setup to include the xbox 1 BC partition.

I just went this route. Upgrade from an old white arcade to a slim and used my old 120GB drive.
The arcade lasted me 2 years. Yesterday the disc drive started making some weird noises on and off. I saw Gamestop was giving an extra $50 on console toward new console. So I brought it in and got $110 towards the 4GB slim. With the trade in credits I had I only had to lay out $6.
The Gamestop guy didn't even test it since I'm in there often. I did tell him it was making some noise on and off but still worked.
I took my old drive out of the casing and inserted it in the slim and I'm good to go. Very convenient method as no data transfer required. I did the license transfer on xbox live web site.

You don't really need to buy the HDD casing. Especially if you dont move your xbox much. You can just insert the drive in the slot (if you ever inserted a PC card thats about it). Its wiggled a little to the touch, but a couple of pieces of electrical tape it was fine.

Edit - This slim runs pretty hot - the fan is blowing lots of hot air out of the top vent. Debating on getting an extended warranty. New models are just one year now, right?

How much would I get for an old 360 Pro if I traded it in towards a Slim?

How reliable are the HDDs you buy off of eBay? I see they sell for good prices, but I always worry about them being corrupted or hacked. I would definitely want to add an HDD to the Slim, so I can get all the replays and stuff from games like NBA 2K.

Could you also just use 1-2 Microsoft flashdrives for extra memory? Would those allow you to get the replays/features from games that require more than 4gb of memory that comes with the Slim?
