Why not put these games out on the regular DS then? If no one really uses the 3D feature and Nintendo is distancing itself from the 3D aspect of the handheld, what's the real difference between a 3DS/3DSXL and a DSi/DSiXL?

I play with the 3D on midway to full. When the 3DS first came out, the 3D effect had a very small window to be effective but now, the games really shine more in 3D. I'm not one to tell people how to play their games but if the 3D effect doesn't make you sick or give you headaches, I'd say it's worth playing games in 3D.

I usually try it, but wasn't seeing a huge difference in Luigi's Mansion, but I'll give 3D another shot.

I will say that I usually can't play for as long with the 3D, I do feel my eyes get tired sooner.

3DS is much more powerful, but I guess there's no reason why the games couldn't exist on the DS, although I don't see how Luigi's Mansion wouldn't be a very different game. The great lighting effects add so much and there's so many physic interactions.

People seem pretty split on the 3D, and I think Nintendo distancing themselves from it is smart and getting back to what matters most, making great games. If I want to play the latest and greatest, I'm going to have to get that new piece of hardware, whether it's a handheld, console, or upgrading my PC.

Yeah that's the sticking point for me; I know I wouldn't last long playing with the 3D effects. So, trying to justify buying a new handheld for a handful of games that I'd play is tough, especially when I have a DSi with a backlog of about 10-15 games.

If you have a backlog you're fine...I upgraded to the 3DS just because I wanted the newer games...it's been worth it, especially now with some great ones coming.

It's not a drastic difference, just upgraded power.

I'm debating buying one, the Fire Emblem game caught my eye.

Strategy RPGs that have fleshed out characters with permadeath always draw me in.

I'm sure once I get through the backlog (probably will take 2-3 years at my current pace) Nintendo will have a new handheld out by then, so I may miss the 3DS all together, or just pick it up really cheap and play all the 3DS-exclusive games.

I'm skipping permadeath, but just started Fire Emblem last night and really enjoying it.

Obviously my battles are super simple now and I'm not that deep into strategy yet, but it's a great game. I beat XCOM on the PC, and this is in a similar vein, but deeper. Similar to the Ghost Recon 3DS game (made by original Xcom guy Julian Gollup).

The humor and whatnot is goofy but funny. Makes the characters seem engaging, which is great. Looking forward to playing for a while!

I bought a 3DS XL this week at Target with Luigi's Mansion and Paper Mario. I had no idea about the promo for the free game. I signed up and got Mario Land. I've been waiting for Animal Crossing to come out to get a 3DS, but the Target deal and Luigi's Mansion made me get it early, happy that I did. Luigi's Mansion was one of my favorite Gamecube games, this new one is real good fun too. Still anxiously waiting for Animal Crossing though.

I'd love to get a 3DS XL... But I don't want to get rid of my Zelda 3DS and don't want 2 systems.

Problem is my eyes just can't take the small screen any longer on the regular 3DS. Maybe I'll grab one later this year around the holidays.

I don't use the 3DS enough to warrant trading up, but I do wish my screen was bigger.

Traded up when I was able to get my hands on the Limited Edition Pokémon XL and I must say, the larger screen really makes a big difference, at least to these old eyes! Screen is 90% bigger than the regular 3ds so nearly twice as big.

Picked up Luigi's Mansion and it's really a masterpiece!

While I do not normally like RPGs I downloaded the Fire Emblem Awakening demo and really liked it so I picked that game up as well.
