3DS and 3DS XL will be on sale at Target for $129 and $159 (March 24-30th).

I'm going to pick up an XL. The exclusive lineup this year for 3DS looks so good (wish I could say the same for Vita). I will probably get Fire Emblem: Awakening and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and pre-order SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (April 16th), then download either Super Mario 3D Land or the new Professor Layton as the free game.

Good price on the XL. Might have to pick that up.

I got my XL brand new off eBay for $160 and Fire Emblem alone is worth the price of admission. Animal Crossing: New Leaf will own my life in June.

            SMT goodness on the horizon:

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers Interview

For those who are unfamiliar with Soul Hackers, could you give us a quick rundown of what kind of RPG it is?

Soul Hackers is a first-person dungeon explorer that relies on negotiating with demons in order to build up a party capable of navigating the various areas of the game, fighting enemies and the occasional boss. If you want a recent game to compare it to, I'd say that SMT: Strange Journey is pretty close, though Soul Hackers has a bit more plot and less straight-up exploration.
The main character (MC) and Nemissa are constantly in the party (the MC deals physical damage while Nemissa does magical damage), but the other slots in the party are all going to be demons that you've persuaded to join you or fused yourself. You'll be going through dungeons in various places across Amami City as well as virtual dungeons within Amami's own MMO, "Paradigm X."
Hacking plays a large part of the story, but the player doesn't do any himself within the context of the gameplay. Instead, a new set of hidden options called "Hacking" allows you to modify game parameters to make things easier (or more challenging!) for you, with corresponding rewards.
There are three difficulties: Easy, Normal, and Hard. You can even modify the difficulty at any point in the game.
That's a good question. Since US players will not have seen the original releases in English, it may be hard to tell what's been changed. For one, the overall playability has been re-tuned and optimized for the 3DS. Load times are minimized and is very responsive. The user interface is modernized and uses the 3D screen well. Second, full character voices were added for further story emersion (original game was unvoiced) along with a brand new opening anime sequence with a new theme song. Of course, the original OP movie is left in for authenticity. Thirdly, to help players enjoy demon and sword fusions more casually, the Demon Compendium and Sword Compendium were added so that you can repurchase demons that you've consumed in other fusions, without having to go back and re-collecting them in battle. It's very handy if you're a collector. I could go on and on about how cool these features are, but I'll stop here!

I'm not sure I'd have the time necessary for a MH game.

I may go with Fire Emblem and Luigi...I'll be going on some long plane flights over the summer, so these may be perfect.

MH is tempting, though I tried MH Tri on Wii and didn't get into it, so slow to start.

                Picked up a Blue/Black 3DS XL.

I was told I can just take my receipt in on Sunday and they will refund me the difference.

I'm moving shortly and trying to cut down on clutter and was wondering if anyone had any experiences downloading full games of the eshop. Take forever? Space fill up quickly? I have the original model and have no idea how much space it holds.

My wife and I have downloaded all but 1 of the games we own. I don't think any game took longer than 10 minutes to download and we enjoy having the games always there. Memory is a non-issue as you can get High Capacity SD cards relatively cheap from Amazon.

I'll have to do this...way easier than having to carry a bunch of game cards when I travel.

So im about to get one of these off craigslist. This was the post:

"I'm selling a blue original 3DS for $100.00. It comes with the 2GB SD card,
charging cord, charging cradle, AR cards & original box. It was adult owned & no
                        scratches on the screen."

Im going to ask if he could bring a game with him so I can make sure it reads them.

I've played other SRPGs, but Awakening is my first Fire Emblem and it's pretty awesome. I'm playing on Normal/Classic to experience the tension of possibly losing characters forever.

I thought about that but time is a commodity for me and I'd rather not have to reset constantly like other "pure" Fire Emblem players do. I stuck that piece on casual with no regrets. I like challenge but never at the expense of fun. I always said, I rather my games be too easy than too hard.

Some Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Reviews:

                              IGN - 9.3

Nintendo might have settled into a rather predictable rhythm with its releases over the past few years , but it has traditionally always been expert at innovating within its franchises. Nonetheless, it’s surprising that this particular sequel is the most inventive game Nintendo has made in years. It might not be as original as the first Luigi’s Mansion, but it’s so much bigger and more adventurous that it makes its inspiration look like an extended demo. It’s one of the best games on the 3DS, a loveably comedic, surprisingly varied adventure that wins over your heart with its playful characterisation and your mind with its intelligent, challenging nature.
                              Destructoid - 9.5

In many ways, Dark Moon's ScareScraper is one of the best multiplayer modes I've ever played. There's so much variety to it, and the formula of combining the cooperative nature with competitive, playful elements is genius. My wife and I couldn't stop playing, and every time I had friends over who owned a 3DS, I beamed a download play version to their portables for a quick few rounds.
If Dark Moon was just a single-player experience, it would have been a fleeting, yet enjoyable adventure. But with the addition of an infectious multiplayer element that can't be replicated anywhere else, it makes Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon even better than its predecessor, and one of the clear-cut best games on the 3DS.
                              1UP

The dynamism of the environments makes the puzzles far more convincing, too. Where so many other games feel compelled to point out their environments' few interactive points by making them glow, Dark Moon goes the opposite direction and makes the key puzzle elements look the same as the rest of the objects in each room or courtyard. Aside from occasionally pop-up button prompts for doors, cabinets, and certain other interactions, Next Level never draws conspicuous attention to the things you can manipulate, instead preferring to coax you to experiment and explore. You'll leave no stone unturned, and you'll be rewarded amply for it as the game constantly disgorges prizes for the curious.
Dark Moon's thoughtful design and overall excellence don't just make it an essential for the 3DS library; it also helps redeem its unloved, neglected predecessor in retrospect as well. Who'd have thought that the most benighted Mario spin-off would inspire such a compelling sequel?
                              The Escapist - 4.5/5

It's a fantastic little platformer that looks great, plays well, doesn't talk down to you and utilizes the strengths of the system to their full effect. This is a game that really "gets" the essence of the 3DS, and understands that a good 3DS game means so much more than just using the 3D effect.
Everyone with a 3DS should enjoy this game, but fans of Mario games, as well as fans of puzzle-focused action-adventure RPGs like The Legend of Zelda, will especially enjoy the ghostbusting gameplay mechanics of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
                              Gametrailers - 9.3

Dark Moon ends up being a perfect excuse to bring Mario's brother back into the limelight. Every haunted rooms seems to breathe when an inventive charm and delicate attention to detail that makes this game one of the best reasons to own a 3DS.

I ended up restarting on Normal/Casual, because I couldn't handle certain characters dying; one got killed by an enemy with a 2% critical chance. I have no problem accepting perma-death in something like XCOM, but I guess it's these characters having more personality and the relationships you can forge through pairing them up, that makes it harder to accept.

This game is super addicting and packed with tons of content.
