Re: Nintendo 3DS Announced
How many chapters are in the story? I pretty much have just been doing challenges and getting stars for my different lives. But then I realized I might hit the stat cap before the main story is finished at which point I can buy the DLC and raise my level even higher. I just finished level 4 I think, the one where you have to go to Elderwood Village. My character is at level 40 now, I don't want to get capped at 50 before I finish the story. The only complaint I have with the game is the way they handled the DLC. Forcing you to buy it if you want to keep increasing your level. But luckily the game is a lot of fun and I was going to purchase it anyway.

I was over level 50 when I beat it. The stats cap at 50 but you can level up to 99 or 100 (I'm not sure) so don't rush or worry about that. My level is in the 60s now and it's still hard to beat boss characters.
And there are 2 chapters left, I think.Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Got a lot I want to say about Persona Q already:
It's easy to see, even as someone who's never played an Etrian Odyssey game, that there are definitely influences coming from outside the Persona series. And at the same time it reminds me a little bit of what the first Persona games were like (the first-person perspective dungeon crawling). No social links and no exploration outside of the labyrinth (you choose destinations outside of it in a menu) - the dungeon-crawl IS the gameplay. And there's even a fundamental change in the dungeons themselves - they aren't random. In fact, there's a focus on mapping out the dungeon (drawing walls, shortcuts and such) on the lower screen with the stylus as you proceed). Battle system is a bit different too, with the "1 more" system replaced by a boost that gives the character a no-cost use of their Persona skills when striking a weak point.
So with everything that's different, what's keeping me as a Persona fan entertained so far? The cast, without question. All of the major event scenes so far have been voice acted, and the characters from both games still have their familiar personalities and with the exception of a couple of P3 characters, the same voices. I think the P4 cast interacts with each other better (same was true of the original games, P3 characters always had a darker, detached feel), but both are very well done. You can start the game with either cast, and I played through the first hour or so on both starts. At some point I'd assume they come together.
The game has several different difficulties, but the only one I'm interested in is the hardest one, Risky. Why? Because it's the only level where the main character getting KO'd equals a game over, and I can't imagine playing a Persona game any other way. That said, losing the MC wouldn't be quite the death blow in this game under normal circumstances, because he isn't quite so special anymore in battle compared to the rest of the team (that's a bit of a spoiler IMO so I don't want to go into too much detail about it).
It's different, for sure. Not every Persona fan is going to like it, and probably not every EO fan either. I'm enjoying the mix of old and new so far, and I think it's really going to be the story that determines whether I'll really enjoy the game or not. The early part of the game did enough to get me interested though.Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Have you been able to beat the boss rocks or trees yet? There's a tree in the deep elderwood that is kinda fiery and evil looking that I can't dent. Same thing with a rock in lava cave. Is it a matter of strength, or really powered tools

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Bravely Default is very similar to a Final Fantasy game and a very good one at that, well the first half that is. If you go back in this thread you'll see complaints about where the second half of that game goes.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment
