Re: Nintendo 3DS Announced
I'm clearly no good at this game, or any turn-based RPG that I try. I just got wiped out in the Prologue (second boss) on Normal difficulty. It took a while and several sequences of starting to play it and stopping, but I'm finally really getting into Bravely Default and I don't intend to stop this time. On the end of Chapter 2 and loving it now that I actually have some choices for my party.
I've heard the end of the game is brutal but a) It's a long ways off and b) I don't think I can name an FF endgame that wasn't challenging. Assuming you weren't using broken, overpowered tricks, of course (and I'm sure this game has no shortage of them either).

My biggest weakness is that I'm bad at taking the time to level party members, evidently, as I was definitely well below the rank I needed to be at to fight this boss, as he destroyed my party members in 2 turns. I read/hear in a game that I need to go to destination X and that's where I immediately head. I guess I need to wander around more, build my team up and then head to where the game wants me to go.
I haven't thrown in the towel yet and may just bump the difficulty down to Easy. I like the graphics and the music is good so far. There's more voice acting than I expected, too.Currently Playing:

One question - do you at least let the random battles happen instead of zeroing the encounter rate? Because if you don't do random fights you'll be in for a world of hurt once you reach bosses.I'm clearly no good at this game, or any turn-based RPG that I try. In lieu of giving any detailed help, I'll just say to remember Brave and Default - they're absolutely vital for boss fights. Or at least they were on Hard difficulty for me where the enemies/bosses have a lot more HP. Having a healer is always good, and if they have a turn where they're not healing Default can reduce damage AND allow them to take an extra turn later with no penalty. Brave can be good for finishing off an enemy with one last massive assault, if you're aware of how much HP they have left. The Freelancer's scanning skill (I forget what it's called) can be useful all throughout the game because of this.
And if all else fails and you're close to a win, but are about to die before that...Bravely Second can save your life for one last attempt. It's likely only going to be good once in a play session though, unless you spend money to refill it (which I would never do). Second saved me in two boss fights so far in my Hard playthrough.Last edited by bcruise; 09-03-2015, 02:47 AM.Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS Announced
I'm at a complete loss on a 3ds game to purchase. Might end up with Majoras Mask.
I want a paper Mario game but that's coming 2016.
I don't like rpgs outside of that but it seems every hit review is an rpg.
I have ps4 for the serious games and want 3ds for the Nintendo atmosphere.
I thought maybe Luigi's Mansion but everyone seems 50/50 on it.
Don't know how I feel about playing a platformer like Mario world or donkey Kong but maybe those are my only options.
Wish more of the fun looking wii games were on 3ds.

Yeah, I haven't touched any of the in-game settings, so random battles definitely happen. Guess I just didn't run into enough of them. I do like the Brave and Default battle system. When used right, it's quite powerful. One question - do you at least let the random battles happen instead of zeroing the encounter rate? Because if you don't do random fights you'll be in for a world of hurt once you reach bosses.

Re: Nintendo 3DS Announced
I'm in the same boat. I haven't used my 3DS much lately and there doesn't seem to be many games coming down the pike for it that I would actually be interested in. Like you, I'm not big into RPG's, but you feel like you almost have to at least try some of them out because they are always highly-rated.I'm at a complete loss on a 3ds game to purchase. Might end up with Majoras Mask.

You can't go wrong with Zelda, imo. I haven't started Majora's Mask yet, but I've heard good things about the 3DS version.
I've thought about Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., but talk about a game that received mixed reviews. I dig the strategy involved with the steam, but not sure I can get into the game with random historical characters and a (from what I've heard) shallow story.
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon was a game I enjoyed. It does get a little repetitive in terms of mission structure, but I didn't mind it. There's a good amount of humor in the game, the gameplay is very solid and the graphics are quality for a 3DS game.Currently Playing:

Re: Nintendo 3DS Announced
I'll consider those games. Just need to take a plunge on one.

Re: Nintendo 3DS Announced
I haven't bought a 3DS game since Fantasy Life but I was thinking of getting Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer later this month, but I'm so against this amiibo stuff and I see Nintendo mixing that into the game. So the characters on the amiibo cards can only be designed for if you have that card? There's quite a bit of them.

You only need Amiibo cards if you want to design homes for characters like Tom Nook or Isabelle or K.K. Slider. Other than that, you won't need any Amiibo cards as all the villagers will be walking around the square. The cards just give you instant access instead of waiting for them to randomly show up.
I want the game but I'm waiting for it to go on sale. All you do is design and that'll get old fast.Comment
