    Re: Wii U Discussion

    tested one out finally

When you hold the controller and play a game on the screen you are COMPELLED to look down due to the light. the controller has this neglect feel to it like "i should be doing something on this too" Which is a BIG NO NO you should focus on the screen....

Nintendo could have saved itself the hassle of a controller like this and put the money into a stronger gp/cpu instead of making a tablet someone can hold because they feel left out while I play my "third party" game.

I'm sorry but nintendo has missed the boat with next gen COMPLETELY.

its NOT about control its about GRAPHICS....

are you kidding with that statement? some of the best games I've ever played have graphics that aren't great. it's about gameplay, user experience and control for me.

people still play NFL 2K5, College Hoops 2K8, Tecmo Super Bowl, hell even Tetris, all kinds of games where the graphics are outdated because they are GREAT GAMES.

the list of piss-poor games with good graphics is a mile long...

Well, I think he's partially right, I just would have worded it differently. With these next generation systems coming out, I do believe that people are looking for more than just an innovative controller... it's time to see not only an increase in graphical capability, but in AI as well.

Ultimately, you obviously want to have both. While you're right, people still play 2K5 to this day because of it's gameplay, there are clearly a lot more that don't because of how dated it is (and especially looks).

Like I said, with these new systems coming out, I don't believe it's a black and white, either/or, for consumers anymore. Unique controls are great, but people are also looking for visuals and actions that mimic what we see in real life and in movies.

Again, not that I agree with Tomba 100%, but are you telling me you don't game on your Alienware because it can pump out better graphics than what consoles can, especially with the talented modding community that is out there?

              Re: Wii U Discussion

From a graphical standpoint, Rayman Legends looks beautiful on the Wii U. I can see where 2-3 years down the road, these graphics could possibly get a bit outdated. Like a few said, if they are playing this system just for the exclusives that works. My argument this whole time is that if Nintendo really wanted to take Sony and MSFT branded users away, they would of done a few things to learn from their own mistakes with the Wii and then with what these two other companies did wrong.

1-For one the whole online community deal is still a mystery regardless the little tidbits they have shared. Online is now and I hope we have gotten past those stupid friends codes deal.

2-This gamepad feels so cheap, that if a kid drops it and it breaks parents either have to send it in for repairs which might not be possible or wait for a new gamepad to surface. Which Nintendo is not even offering at retail.

3-Again, achievements/trophies/accolades, whatever you want to call them are a great hook into people playing your games multiple times. Look at in years past how we have been competitive here on OS with achievements and then then last 4+ years with our PS3 Trophy standings. This not only happens on OS, I visit several sites that do this with their communities.

4-The Wii sold gangbusters because of 1 game, Wii bowling. If you wanted to build off of that, wouldn't you pack in a newer version of Wii U bowling? They suckered a ton of people into buying the Wii just to play bowling.......why not repeat the formula. Now Nintendoland might be cool, but it doesn't have that same appeal imo.

5-The chat functionality is a bit better than what we get on the PS3 plain and simple.

Not once do I bitch about the graphics, this has been Nintendo since the 90's always lagging behind which is fine.

I've had about enough of the BS we have gone through this generation and do not want to see a repeat of it going into next.

Yeah, controller durability is one of the scarier things I've ready about the WiiU thus far. Looking forward to trying it today.

Graphics aren't the only thing but the components that powers graphics can do a lot to improve the quality of animations, sound, ai, etc. Of course, if all you want to do is play a platformer, then maybe all of that isn't necessary but I want to see gaming improve, not stuck with the same characters and gameplay experiences that Nintendo wants to repeat over and over again.

I dont think Rayman has anything to do with Nintendo as it does, its just a beautiful looking game

I do think we need to see a jump in graphics because im not sure the current consoles are up to par with technology in a sense

It all ties into anatomy, believable movement, etc...

Graphics most certainly matter. You might get used to what you're looking at after awhile but as the years go on games should most certainly improve

                          Re: Wii U Discussion

Graphics are important but I believe we've hit a wall in graphics and horsepower in terms of driving video game sales. The current gen games produce great graphics. The next gen will be better but the jump from PS1 to PS2 and PS2 to PS3 will be a far bigger jump than what we will see in the next gen.

The Wii has outsold the 360 and PS3 in spite of its graphics because it sold premium first party games and had a gimmick/feature (motion controls) people wanted or thought they wanted. People love gaming on their phones as well and they are cheap but addictive. The market is just different. Graphics are significantly lower on the totem pole in terms of getting the public to buy a game. I do think the lack of horsepower may become an issue down the road for third party Wii U support but I think the Tablet controller has potential. Besides, Mario will always sell regardless.

I also think the better graphics on the PS4/NextBox will drive development costs so high that the new games will scare people away from those systems to a degree. People already bitch about paying $60 for a game. What about $70 or $80 for a AAA next gen game? That may really hurt next gen gaming.

I think people complain about the quality they get for the 60 bucks more than just the price alone

I'm not totally sold graphics being the sole driving force as much as I am on a stand alone tablet controller being some kind of futuristic benchmark for gaming

Only time will tell who took advantage of the mistakes made this go around...the technology just has to get better, and im still of the mind that online should not take precedence over SP gaming...they need to figure out which one they want to perfect first

I think that Cliffy B, Tim Shafer, and another dude (gearbox designer) all agreed in an interview that graphics have plateaued to a certain extent. Future consoles may see a bit of a jump in graphics but it won't be as big as it has been in the past. They said that designers are going to have to be more creative and A.I. will see some of the biggest improvements next gen.

I like graphics but I would like to see more realistic environments. Using a flamethrower in a house should probably set the house on fire. The walls, curtains, and the couch should burn ect. Realistic environments would help open up gameplay. It may not be as sexy as graphics but the possibilities really open up the deeper they go.

If I'm trying to kill someone on the 2nd floor it would be interesting to have the option to set the first floor on fire and the A.I. would have to decide if the target stays in the building or if he tries to jump out of the window ect.

I agree the reactive AI really needs to be less "dumb" in a sense.

The models need to not look like zombies also.. its been done on this gen so we know the tech is there

Physics is another part of the equation especially for sports games to take another leap

I think in a sense that's the problem with the WiiU

They didnt take a leap into nex gen, they basically came up to the systems that were made 6 years ago to a degree

A standalone tablet is not enough.. truthfully I think Sega would've done this years ago had the dreamcast not died
too soon. (ahead of its time)
