Re: Nintendo E3 2011 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/7)
That is bigger than the Jaguar controller.......should just name this the Wii Jaguar 2. Nintendo should have learned from their own and Atari's mistakes in architecture design. The system itself doesn't look bad at all and more like the old 360 had sex with a Wii and that is its offspring.
Does this controller come packed with the system or is it separate?
That picture that was posted of Link vs. the spider, is that the new Zelda for this system? If it is, I like the art style/direction.
When is this supposed to launch and if next Fall, I take it price will be released at next year's E3.
But that controller is hideous as hell.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 06-07-2011, 12:47 PM.Comment

Did you not watch the presentation? This can change the way you play and interact with the console. They are selling a system that looks to be exactly the same as what we have right now, graphics-wise, except with a gigantic controller. It's typical Nintendo nonsense. We still don't know if developers are actually going to do anything different with it or how their terrible online system has evolved.
I want to play an RPG and have my inventory system on the touch screen.
Madden with the play calling and stats available on the touch screen.
The baseball fielder's persepective in through the second screen.Comment

Re: Nintendo E3 2011 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/7)
I just think it is ironic that nintendo came out with a very large controller, a netbook basically. Wasn't that long ago Nintendo was complaining controllers were too big and too complicated and that is why they came out with the wii and the wii-mote.
Now on their new console they releasded a netbook for a controller and complex stuff to it.
To me the real death nail of the controller is the fact you can play the new console with the old wii-mote. So I gurantee if that new controller cost $100, most parents just going to keep using the old wii-mote to play games on the new system.
I have a hard time picturing little kids liking to hold such a huge controller to play their games as well.
Will the system sell ? Yes, just off of Nintendo's name alone.Comment

Re: Nintendo E3 2011 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/7)
The Wii was the most expensive board game ever made, this one will trump it.
It will sell millions, no doubt. But no hardcore gamer (and I hate that term as well) is going to sit on their couch playing a tablet as a controller. Imagine playing fighting games on that thing.
Do we not remember the backlash MS took when the original XBox hit with their sausage controllers? This thing makes those look like nothing.
Hopefully by release that thing is redesigned. I'm sure it's holiday 2012 at this point, looks no where near ready for a year out, even though I have seen some stuff on it and know games are running fine on it currently.Comment

Sounds neat on paper, but your taking your head away from the main screen to look at your inventory or plays, which either will require a pause or what have you. So I don't see much of a difference personally, other than novelty mostly.Did you not watch the presentation? This can change the way you play and interact with the console.

The baseball fielder's persepective in through the second screen.
We do have fielder perspectives in baseball now, adjustable cameras behind the pitcher.
The way they showed it for baseball, again, looked novelty, but how did it add an extra feature to a baseball game? You pick your spots on the small screen, which you can just do that on the big one. Just seemed more like an extra pain in retrospect rather than an added dimension.

Give me my inventory on my 70" HDTV, not some 6" tablet. Switch to the fielder's perspective on that same 70" screen.
About the only decent use is playcalling in Madden, but I'd be hard pressed to call that anything more than a gimmick, there's nothing really wrong with picking plays on the big screen.Comment

Did you not see the CEO of EA on stage. Plus the video of a dozen or so other developers.
They announced several third party games.
They will bring third party support and proper online to help drive sales of the WiiU.Comment

The only reason I can see the WiiU having a "decent' price point is the specs probably involved. I always felt that when the Wii came up, Nintendo had a partial philosophy to play just a step behind tech-wise so that they could be cheaper in price.
So, what the WiiU looks like to me is a bit of a step up from the current consoles graphically, but nothing like we'll see from the ps4/720. Because of this, when those systems come out, they'll be $400-$500 again, and the WiiU will be around $250.
Personally, I'm interested in this thing, and will definitely give it a look.XBox Gamertag: djbeth77

This thing should have been half the size of that controller. I think they will get a lot of flack between now and next year's E3, so look out for a redesign. No way kids will be able to hold that thing and possibly not drop it.Give me my inventory on my 70" HDTV, not some 6" tablet. Switch to the fielder's perspective on that same 70" screen.

They said the same thing with the Wii, they all came out and said they would support it, etc, etc and we see where that went. The only difference is that Nintendo trotted them out on stage/video.
This thing will be no different once Sony and Microsoft release their new systems. Until then you will get ports and the same releases as PS3/360, but once they dry up it will be an underpowered system that doesn't sell 3rd party games.Comment

Move is $100. Kinect is $150.
Parents buy their kids ipod touch for $200 to play games.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll get 1 controller with the WiiU.Comment

For people who just have a Wii or play the Wii as their main console, I can see upgrading (If they use the Wii for more than Netflix or Wii Fit), but for anyone with the other two consoles I'm just not seeing it. Some of the HUD stuff is much better on the screen. It is called a "Heads-Up Display" after all.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

They basically made a giant VMU, which was cool, but is not anything worth basing an entire system around. Just like the Wii, you'll see this tacked onto ports of 360/PS3 games, and once developers realize those games won't sell, they'll stop making those ports and you'll have the constant stream of minigame collections with occasional first party releases.Did you not watch the presentation? This can change the way you play and interact with the console.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Nintendo E3 2011 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/7)
Thats what I was thinking about too. Let's say Battlefield 3 puts the HUD on the little screen. Then you would have to look down to check how many grenades you have and by the time you look back up you've already been killed, and now you're respawning. I'm just not sure how efficient this thing can be if you need to look down during game play, and even if you have to pause it to look down there is really no point in having it on the little screen once you've already paused it.Originally posted by slickdtcI'd ride his bus, that's all I'm saying.
