Was wanting to hear more about Smartglass evolved (guarantee they call it that or something as bad at E3) today. If they announce it at E3 as able to play games from the One to your tablet or smartphone, that could put me over the top. Would be a huge failure in my mind if they do not as it could put them in the portable mix instantly without having to release any hardware.

Like I told you on twitter, they said before the event took place that the focus of this presentation would be on the hardware/software and even with that understanding, they still showed games.

They want to be a leader in the living room, but that's not what I'm interested in as a gamer. That is the only position I hold in this, is that XBox is gearing themselves towards the Farmville audiences.

        Kinect being a necessity? Horrible.

Integration with Windows 8? What a ****ty operating system, and they know it - that's why they are backtracking with it.
All the other rumors that have hurt their stock? Yet to be seen.
Of course the are trying to get the "farmville" audience to play games, the whole point is to get as many people as possible hooked into their ecosystem; that doesn't mean that games aren't important, however. Sony's tagline for the ps3 was "it only does everything" and they always highlighted the non-gaming services that people could use on their system and that didn't take away from the games that they put out or pursued. Oh and guess what, even though you don't care, there are a lot of people who do care. With PC games being so much better than console games these days, I've been using my xbox more as a netflix/hbo go box than a gaming console and any improvement they make with those services is a good thing.

If they came out and stated that they wanted their box to be a hub of entertainment while providing some gaming, that would be one thing. They are speaking out of both sides of their mouth though - you can't make things gamers don't care about a necessity and the focus of the system and then say "games are the focus." One of the two statements is a lie.
Both console developers have always said that their focus is on making their boxes the center of the living room and, like I said before, having non-gaming features doesn't take away from the games. In case you haven't paid attention to NPD and other sales tracking, the gaming market has been shrinking and the more that a console can do, the more likely they are to be bought and kept in a home. Both Microsoft and Sony would be crazy to give up on the amount of money they can make with non-gaming services.

CLEARLY, gaming isn't the focus with this box otherwise all these features wouldn't be hyped to the moon.

        EDIT:

The "XBox One" and PS4 have pretty much the same hardware. It equates out to being a middle of the road gaming PC. The consoles have to define themselves somehow.

Microsoft clearly went the entertainment hub road, Sony better focus on the games or they will fail as a console as well.
That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Being able to do multiple things with the same box doesn't mean that gaming isn't a focus or that it is on the backburner.

                vs.

Halo, Gears of War, Forza. I'm struggling to find any other exclusives here that might be worth playing to a large crowd. Can't count Fable as it's a PC game as well.

PSN > Xbox live as well.

I would have bought both systems, as I have in the past just in case, but making the Kinect a requirement made it a no-sale.

They could have kept it optional (while you lose all that "functionality") and I would have been there on day one to buy it. None of the other stuff interests me in a game console. As said before, I have other cheaper options for all that stuff.
I do like the PS exclusives more....you make a great point.

Maybe the new PSN is better, but I always felt like Xbox Live was infinitely better than Sony's XMB and PSN.

I get more on sale for the PC anyways, so that could be why I like the entertainment aspects. I've lost control of my tv a lot of the times (to family), so that is interesting to me.

Not sure I can justify a black box that only does gaming, even if the exclusives are better than what MS has.

I'll have to monitor this though, you brought up good points. I also need to hear more about the TV integration. If it works with my Cox cable and I can change channels way easier then that could be too hard to pass up. Voice search vs. horrible remote based search on my cable box.

I hope people see I'm not a fanboy for Xbox. I think I'm more someone who doesn't have the dedicated gaming time anymore, so a pure "gaming only" console isn't as appealing as it was 5ish years ago.

MS support knows more then the VP of MS?

                  http://kotaku.com/you-will-be-able-t...cros-509140825

Xbox One games will require a one-time activation code to use, but you'll still be able to trade and sell them online, Microsoft tells Kotaku—although we're not 100% clear on the details.

Speaking to us at the big event in Redmond today, Microsoft corporate vice president Phil Harrison clarified a couple of details about the system's used game policy and explained that there will be a solution for people who want to trade games with their friends.

Here's how the system works: when you buy an Xbox One game, you'll get a unique code that you enter when you install that game. You'll have to connect to the Internet in order to authorize that code, and the code can only be used once. Once you use it, that game will then be linked to your Xbox Live account. "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like," Harrison said.

Other users on the console will be able to play that game as well, Harrison said. So you don't need to buy multiple games per family. "With the built-in parental controls of the system it is shared amog the users of the device," he said.

But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison says.

"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."

"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.

"Let’s assume it’s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.

But that doesn't mean used games are dead. In fact, Harrison told us, you'll be able to sell your Xbox One games online.

"We will have a solution—we’re not talking about it today—for you to be able to trade your previously-played games online," Harrison said.

The Xbox exec wouldn't give further details on how this system will work, but we're assuming that once you're done with a game, you can trade the code online and it will be erased from your machine. But what will you get? Other games? Microsoft Points?

No matter how the final system works, it is not likely to please GameStop, the world's biggest buyer and seller of used video games, but it could be a tantalizing way to share games with your friends in the virtual space.

That's interesting. Screws you over if you have multiple systems in a home. There may be a way around things, but I doubt it.

Wouldn't impact me, but I can see how it'd hurt some people.

But anyway, making people pay the full price of the game all the time would be an extremely stupid idea. There must be something missing from that explanation.

As a volunteer and foster for a couple of rescues, I absolutely love when games incorporate dogs into them (unless it's AC3 and you have to kill the dogs). That dog in CoD looked amazing realistic. Great textures and attention to detail.
