Couldn't you just load up your Xbox Live account on a friends Xbox One and play the game that way without paying the fee?

I wouldn't look too much into the stocks situation. Microsoft has done nothing but go up since Sony's presentation. Both of them were disappointing so we'll have to wait and see the business implications.

Getting the main TV is hard enough, so when I have that time to enjoy gaming, I'm not going to spend it thinking that saying "Xbox Home, XBOX TV" is really that cool - I'm going to want to play games in that time I have on the tv. So imo it's just a fruity way to press two buttons on a remote control. Just want a gaming console to use during that time, and I don't know that they touched enough on the gaming console part.
I can understand that....My thoughts are that this makes the console more useful since I don't have as much "main tv" time...

I was seriously considering going without a new console, but Xbox One ties into my tv, streaming, skype, etc in ways that makes it useful to more than just the gamer.

The online thing is the same thing Sony is doing, as far as letting developers pick and choose whether they want to make a game always-online or not.

              Re: Xbox One

This was a good point from a Wired article

"In presenting the PlayStation 4 (not that it showed the actual PlayStation 4) in February, Sony attempted to position itself as the anti-Microsoft, and it seems to have hit the nail right on the head with that: If Microsoft was pushing gaming to the back burner with its Xbox One announcement and potentially alienating the core audience that it’s strung along for the last decade, Sony could boost its flagging image by making PS4 sound like a home for gamers who want their egos stroked. “If you’re not a gamer, I don’t think you get it,” said Sony’s top U.S. exec Jack Tretton to a Wired reporter about PS4. Sony and Microsoft might seem like they are offering similar products, but as far as messaging, they’re 180 degrees apart.

But PlayStation 4, for all we know, might function just like the Xbox One does when it comes to your game discs. Nobody wants to say yet because they believe that the response will focus too hard on what game buyers are losing – the unfettered ability to rent, lend, and resell discs. What Microsoft and Sony need to sell is the idea that restrictions on used games are a byproduct of efforts to improve the gaming experience, either with online connections or disc-free installs."
EOD these systems are not fundamentally all that different. Their marketing otoh, very much so.

Money is tough though and im a used game fiend and always pass mine on.

GTTV - say the controller is ~15% faster. HD Rumble (lol)

Kinect lag isn't controller level but 60ms better than Kinect 1

Actually it went down after the Sony reveal. It only really ramped up at the end of April as the reveal was drawing closer.

My guess is the install is tied to one account on one machine, otherwise you are right and there exists a pretty easy workaround to what they are trying to prevent.

That said, I buy a lot of used games and even like to rent often. Spending $60 on something I'm not sure I'll enjoy is just wasteful, so I rarely do it. I would like to see some answers there. If it is how they say, goodbye secondary and rental markets for Xbox games (unless the fee to install is fairly low).

Also is there a point to physical hardware if the games install completely, or is it just like a PC where the disc is still required to play once installed?

Secondary markets for used games will all but be destroyed by the end of this coming generation gaming. Enjoy it while it lasts. Part of our plan this generation was to eliminate the secondary market and it may take a combined 5+ years to do it, but the end is near.

All good questions for sure....I look forward to when we get more detailed info (obviously you don't get details at the announcement)...

I'm fine with the used games treatment as long as they can do sales similar to PC games (you can get awesome games on sale a month or two after release sometimes)....

I wonder if it will hold up. Multiple XBOX 360's later and I can't be excited about a new Microsoft system.

Also, people need to go to gametrailers to see more in-depth information.

On the topic of games, the Quantum Break trailer was meh but I hold Remedy in as high regard as Rockstar. I expect that to be a great title. Should I come into some $$, I could see that and Watch Dogs as a nice launch day haul.

                                It guts Gamefly completely.

As long as there are decent sales on games I can deal with it...I've gotten used to waiting for big releases, so if there are eventually options to pay less than 60 or 70 a game I'll be ok. Games are getting so expensive that it's not as realistic for me to get stuff at release anymore.
