I believe it. There are some good sales throughout the year. Just have to be patient which is what im doing with Forza Horizon 3. My main point though is why is that game still $50 digitally when it's on sale? Sorry but that's insane.
Even if I just go by the complete edition of The Witcher III, I still saved $10. Saved $40 if I go back to when it launched. The Division was $60 at launch (now $50) and the expansion pass is $40. So to get both for $86 compared to buying both games and passes at launch cost me less than half price.
The sales are fine but at some point, digital games have to drop on a permanent basis.
I know. I was looking at the crossed out MSRP which is insane. I don't have any fantasies when it comes to digital pricing. Not if but when gaming goes all digital, I truly believe that every game will be $60 and stay $60 simply because you'll have no other option if you want to play the game. You'll either buy it for $60 or you won't. I know a lot of people think that all digital will make games cheaper but I don't believe that at all simply because no publisher and I don't care who it is, is going to pass on their savings to you, the consumer. Simply not going to happen.
If Take Two Interactive doesn't want the digital game to at least be competitive compared to what it costs in stores for a physical disc version, why would they ever give the consumer a cheaper price when you have no other way to buy the game?
Publishers rather sell 5m copies at $60 as opposed to 6m copies at $50. Personally, when gaming goes all digital, that's when I'll go back to the past and play all the games I missed out on.
As has been exposed via GameStop's circle of life program, all retailers don't even make money (or much) on new games. All their money comes from pre-owned which is why GameStop pushes all their used stuff in your face.
Outside of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, publishers don't need retailers or physical at all. Only reason they play nice is because the big three need the retailers to stock their consoles and obviously, no point in stocking a console if there won't be any games along side it.
Both Xbox and PS have some good to great deals on digital games but they never happen at launch or even within a month of launch.
The only thing I don't see happening is publishers passing their savings on to the consumer in an all digital retail space as they're all money hungry greedy companies with investors and stock holders that have to be pleased. They sure as hell aren't going to please us.
