Re: Xbox One
Yeah....and Game Pass gets me games like Prey or Metro that I wouldn't play otherwise. Prey was amazing.
I get not wanting to miss stuff though. Part of me does miss not playing things, but I just have to prioritize my use of money too so buying a 60 buck game is tough depending on the game.
GamePass is such a great deal. The day one stuff is a great value, but it’s really the constant collection that makes it a great deal. As primarily a sports gamer, this is a great way to have a more diverse group of games to turn to when looking for something else to play.
That I will have Halo, Gears, and Ori on day one is less a important than the range of genres available to download at any moment. My wife and I have each played games we would have never bought. It’s nice to just try out stuff to decide what we want to play without having to get stuck on the one game we end up with.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Yeah, with the (welcome) onslaught of subscription services, I may not buy consoles day 1 ever again, and may never return to ecosystems that feel so limited by comparison until they catch up.
The options and features outweigh the exclusives. FOMO is satisfied by the volume and quality of the alternatives.Comment

Re: Xbox One
FOMO is a great way to waste money, just to be “in the conversation.” Game companies love executive gamers that feel, almost, a responsibility to play everything.

I also am not sure if I'll buy a console day 1. I'll have to see what games are still playable on my current system, but it looks like everything should be playable on Xbox One for a while (and if I purchase something it should carry over, vs. having to rebuy for Scarlett in the future). Plus with Game Pass I'm not really purchasing as much so not as much fear.
Makes more sense to wait a year until the following Black Friday and get some killer deal on Scarlett to be honest.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
I'm with you on the alternatives being enough. Right now MS is just "ok" on those, but the future is bright.

Re: Xbox One
+ xCloud. Even if you don't regularly use it, if something came out that you wanted to at least try (FOMO) that was exclusive to new hardware (for performance or other reasons) you'll probably be able to relatively inexpensively because of Game Pass on your current equipment / other devices.
That will allow me to hold off on a main purchase of a console yet not "miss out" if there's something I must have. I'm tired of buying on release and seeing prices drop drastically a year later.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
Yeah, I will no more when we get more information, but odds are, I won't be a day one console purchaser for this gen. I thin the X will be good for some time. But then, maybe Halo: Infinite gets me.
But I expect every launch game for Scarlett to be available on the X. Then it will just come down to when I want to upgrade.Comment

Re: Xbox One
There's also a chance that there's no GameStop by the time these next consoles launch. It can influence a lot of people's decision if there isn't as easy of a path to flip current consoles and upgrade.

Re: Xbox One
I'm somewhat thinking/wondering if you'll be able to stream from console to console too....I imagine owning one Scarlett and being able to play that on the older xboxes (why not, given that it can go to mobile, pc, etc)....That hasn't been confirmed though, but it'd make sense.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
Given BC and Game Pass I don't think that flipping a regular Xbox One is really that worth it...It's a pretty good streaming box that can play games. Especially now that the value of a regular One vs X or S is lower.

We had two originals, replaced with S, then with X. I still have all and I'd love to use the older ones in the guest bedrooms but needing an account signed in is a bummer. Especially now that you can have the one guide button on the remote open another app. Then I could simply say push the xbox button, when powered on press the guide button and Hulu opens, and go to the live TV blade.
I guess I could create dummy email accounts and set up dummy xbox accounts to auto sign in, but eh shouldn't be needed.Comment

Re: Xbox One
The only thing I wish is that you didnt have to be signed into an account to use TV apps. Hulu live TV, Netflix, youtube...all need an xbox account signed in.

Mine both auto start the TV app, but it'd be cool if they let you pick anything for your case.
I think how MS has it is better than others (with sharing amongst family and whatnot), but something where you could more easily have a few gamertags or something would be great vs. just having home xbox.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
Also wasnt sure where too post this (e3 thread or here) but I posted in both:
So I was thinking about Microsofts future with Gaming. Microsoft is very friendly with competitors recently and it would not surprise me if next gen or earlier becomes somewhat of a mixed first party gen. Allowing pretty much all their first party games on PC as well day one has me thinking in that direction as well.
Hell Microsoft even pitched Halo MC Collection too Sony and kept emphasizing about "Play how you want, with whoever you want." You throw in that Cloud partnership with Sony as well I think it's going too lead too some sort of huge crossover crossplay thing.
In other words, I can see Microsoft expanding their IPs to other platforms (If that platform allows it) and allowing Cross Play from the beginning. This could also mean you could possibly see games that Microsoft own the right too, Banjo Kazooie, being made for Switch, etc.
Thoughts?

It's not just about console sales. They are important, but Xbox is still profitable.
Microsoft has acquired some new studios for exclusives. I imagine one of them will hit.
Game Pass is an outstanding deal that I dont think can be underestimated. After spending 400$ to 500$ I can see budget conscious people jumping on it. 90% of games are multi platform. I could see Game Pass being offered on other platforms like EA Access, though. Even non Xbox gamers would like to play the Forza, Gears and Halos.

Re: Xbox One
Op-ed that single player games might be safer than online "live" games now....
Makes some good points/thoughts and I don't think that a ton of the online games can all coexist at once very well (Destiny, Fortnite, Apex, Fallout 76, PUBG, Anthem, etc)...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
I finally got time to figure out what ethernet my living room Xbox was near, so I could find the wire in our network box and get it on the switch I recently set up. Along with turning off wifi on the modem/router given (due to having a digital phone too, cant' get rid of it yet) and using my Nighthawk I had gotten prior to moving to the new house.
Better, faster Wifi, along with 2 wired Xboxes that can now transfer an insane amount using Network Transfer. That feature is killer when wired. I'm now more set to stream from both of those Xboxes in the future too!Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
