Is it really so hard to believe that was a big reason why MS went the DRM route? Why does it have to be about MS is trying to screw us? Do you really think MS didn't know they would have a fight on their hands with Sony? If MS was the only player then I could understand this mentality. We may never know the true plan with family sharing, but clearly they felt some of the other things they were bringing to the table would help offset the restrictions that come with DRM.
The point is, everything they want to do can still be done regarding digital downloads, swapping digital downloads, family sharing, etc.

You act like MS is doing away with digital downloads but they are still there on day one. Stop equating DRM with bringing new features. The two are completely separate.

I also really don't want to lift my controller to raise a shield or anything like that. I guess I'm an old fashioned button pusher.

I also feel like a loser walking into GameStop which is why I avoid it at all cost. The stigma that video games are for losers/nerds definitely affects me. It's all psychological but it is there.

Does this make sense? Probably not! I think I'm a reasonable person but I have some sort of mental issue on this topic.
I see your point, and I feel stupid yelling at the tv sometimes too.

My thoughts are that my wife finds it interesting to say "Xbox Pause", so with Xbox One if I get her using it more with TV and stuff then it'll be less stupid for me to use it...

This could make Kinect more broadly accepted in that way...

I don't care about going into Gamestop though...I don't feel it looks badly on me, and I usually do it to save money and sell games back. I'm at the point where I don't care if people I don't even know (or ever will know) judge me.

      I dunno, just my thoughts.

Good point - my post was more referring to the retail discs and how once the game is installed, you don't have to have the disc in the tray. A form of DRM would be needed to implement that. They can't go all digital because obviously they would piss off some major retailers.

Well because that's not entirely true about no free multi player across all games. There is multi player games that will be available on PSN for free online play.

A large number though will require PS+ .

Even then with the disc being in the tray...

Do you really switch games that often to where its a hindrance to play time? I'm a bit of a different case here because my ps3 is modded and I rip all my games to my 1TB HDD I have in there. The only times I'd actively switch games is when I bought a bunch and wanted to get a little taste of them (normally jrpgs that aren't on radars.)

I'm willing to bet, though, that on average most people only play one game at a time. If its during the NFL season, they'll be having Madden in there all the time. When GTA V drops that won't be leaving most peoples disc trays for a long time.

The switching will still be in there, it just loses a tiny bit of utility for people who actively switch games a lot (which I'm guessing is a very small number.)

You should still be able to go from TV --> digitally purchased games or from TV --> the game in the tray in the same way you would before.

Even then, if that is a selling point of the console for someone they still have the option to purchase digitally and retain the exact same functionality there was before (which I'm guessing most would have done anyways for ease of use.)

All I'm saying is I think that's part of the reason MS modeled this the way they did. To fully take advantage of the Kinect in every situation. I don't disagree with you and the points you're making. I just disagree with those who have the mentality that MS solely did this to screw their consumers. I don't believe that was their intention.

I don't switch games that often, but it is annoying. I don't have my games sitting out next to the system, so I have to go find it in the area we hide movies and games and find that disc box, put it away, find the other one, go back to console. My wife doesn't want all the clutter sitting everywhere with games (and I understand that).

It would be nice to never have to switch discs, but not OMG must have feature.

I agree with you...they want to fully take advantage of Kinect, not screw people over. Some people are just more sensitive about having Kinect on there than others. I don't mind having it hooked up, i just ignore it.

I understand that searching can be annoying depending on how it's set up in each specific household, but in terms of functionality with the Kinect absolutely nothing was lost by this change.

Purchase digital releases and the functionality with swapping games, TV to game features and anything else Kinect related is still there. MS can still implement a digital trading marketplace if they want to, it will just take time.

Personally, I don't think MS was going out of their way to screw the consumers but I do think they didn't care if they did things the lazy way and consumer rights getting screwed was a byproduct of that.

Like I've said before, I believe Microsoft's intentions were genuine. I believe that they really feel that their vision is the future. I don't believe they were trying to rip anyone off. Are they trying to make as much money as possible? Sure. It'd be irresponsible to shareholders to do anything but. But I don't think they were doing anything unethical. They misread the market. It isn't ready for what they wanted to do. It needs to be implemented slowly, not forced down anyone's throat.

                      Re: Xbox One

                      Let's talk games......

When Dead Rising 3 was unveiled for the Xbox One, it served largely the same purpose that the original Dead Rising did for the Xbox 360, which was flexing the hardware’s capabilities.

But Microsoft’s Xbox One initiative is far more ambitious than its predecessor. For example, there’s its use of SmartGlass, an app that connects a tablet to an Xbox 360 console. Dead Rising 3 supports SmartGlass, and Siliconera asked Dead Rising 3 executive producer Josh Bridge how a zombie playground utilizes this feature.

I see Dead Rising 3′s SmartGlass capabilities being demoed with a Windows 8 tablet, which makes sense at a certain level, given how much Microsoft is trying to tie Windows 8 with the Xbox. Is it a Windows-only thing, or will there eventually be an iOS or Android version?

Josh Bridge, Executive Producer: It will ultimately support all operating systems for sure. But currently we have it running on a Windows device.

Is it its own stand-alone app?

No, it’s part of an upcoming version of the Xbox SmartGlass app and will function much like the current version. After you launch the app, it notices that Dead Rising is currently being played, press a button, and in kicks our phone. It actually skins your phone to be like the phone from the game’s universe.

You’ll get calls from a character that are only on the SmartGlass device. So if you don’t have SmartGlass, you won’t get those calls from that guy. Which also means you won’t get those missions.

Will you be able to finish the game without it?

You can finish the game without it. There’s plenty content as is without it. But we put some exclusives in the game for those who have a SmartGlass compatible device.

Personally, I’m a child; I love gadgets, hearing a little ring… I can even customize the ringtones too… and hearing a little voice, that gives you exclusive missions.

So there’s a character unique to SmartGlass?

Yes. His storyline is his own. And it interweaves with the main storyline. Without it, you’re not losing out on what the story is. But you’re getting more out of the game.

You’re not missing out on any unique achievements?

Ummm… no. I don’t think we can do that.

Initially I thought it was something for a second player to do.

You can… it’s mostly part of the single player mode, but as we’ve been working on it, playing it on our studio, I’d toss it to a buddy as go, “Hey, help me out here; can you do this for a sec?” It ends up being pseudo-cooperative play. But it’s not an answer to co-op, we have co-op.

The apps, which allow you to perform areal strikes and such… once you have access to them, can they be used as will? Is access unlimited?

Oh yeah. When you complete missions, he gets you more app codes, and those app codes can be spent on whatever you want, plus used whenever you want. Though they do have cool down periods.

Meaning you can’t use them over and over and over again…

No, because then you’d hit the credits in one hour. And there’s no microstransactions at all. This is all within the game’s own ecosystem.

Dead Rising 3 will be released this holiday. The game is being developed by Capcom and published by Microsoft.

Josh Bridge, Executive Producer, shares that Dead Rising 3 will have a story and missions that are unique to SmartGlass.

Man I'm all over this as I've pre-ordered the Day-One version. From the Kinect information around zombies responding to the atmosphere noise in your play area, to the smart glass integration...

                      And with that...
