Re: Xbox 720
Here's another article regarding the upcoming May 21 reveal from a business (investment) perspective:
http://www.cnbc.com/id/100674839?__s...ext|&par=yahoo
Interesting take:
"The Xbox 360 has been the top selling console in the U.S. for 27 consecutive months, according to The NPD Group—and analysts say Microsoft is the company to beat in the next generation.
The added degree of difficulty with this next generation, though, is that the leap in graphics fidelity will not be as pronounced as it has in previous new consoles. And that could mean a slower adoption rate among consumers.
"The next-generation consoles present only a modest improvement in graphics quality over current generation consoles, suggesting to us that many gamers will be slower to adopt the new technology immediately," said Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities.
The key to success for the new Xbox, then, may lie in its non-gaming features.
"Console releases really aren't about games anymore," said John Taylor of Arcadia Investment. "They're as much about media centers, access to the Internet, social networking and the whole selection of interactive opportunities. There's a 46 million [person] audience for Xbox Live that's already familiar with the service—and Microsoft's goal should be to get that to 100 million."Comment

Re: Xbox 720
Leasing is a real question that needs to be asked. Why would MS sell it for $300 + $240 for Live? You are going to almost be required to get Live, so why would anyone buy the $500 + $100?Comment

You are missing the point. Yes they have your CC and yes they can charge you a ETF, but you don't have to pay it. You can cancel the CC and then they have no way to charge you other than to send you a bill and ban the box.

The important part is to get a box in a living room, the ability to pay less out of pocket up front will do that.

Direct TV boxes, etc are one way to show the "leasing method". Bad credit, you have to pay $300 for a HD-DVR receiver that is a non-refundable "deposit". And when the contract is up and you want to cancel, it must be returned.
Good credit you pay no deposit, just monthly service payments. When you are done, equipment must be returned.
So I would not be shocked if MSFT did the same thing for their cable box/game console.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 04-27-2013, 11:55 AM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

They would also have to build out the distribution and management of that system (or pay third parties to do so) which is why I don't expect a leasing option.
Of course, that could be why gamestops CEO is high on the platform.
Just feel like we would have heard rumors of a lease option and there haven't been any that I've seen. They have an existing program they can widely roll out next-gen, and makes a lot of sense. If you wonder what this program can look like just Google up the terms of the $99 offer.

Re: Xbox 720
If that truly is the line of thinking for Microsoft throughout this whole process (not saying it is or is not) then they are in for a world of hurt when they realize that people still will mainly buy video game consoles for *gasp* the video games.badComment

Re: Xbox 720
Looks like I may be getting a gaming PC in 2014 then. I really want the new AMD 7990 which is four times more powerful than the Xbox720 and PS4 graphics cards and it supports 4K. The card by itself is $1000, but I will pay that for the latest and greatest graphics. I don't by consoles for all the bells and whistles in which you can get on another platform like a smart TV or tablet, I just want to game.Last edited by ghettogeeksta; 04-28-2013, 03:22 AM.Comment

Re: Xbox 720
Microsoft has really been about the apps and music and yeah games i guess. Whats wrong with being a game system they have xbox live which is really good it worked well for them on the original xbox. Work on getting better first party support.MLB: Chicago Cubs

I'm sure he meant not JUST about games.
He later followed it up with "They're as much about media centers, access to the Internet, social networking and the whole selection of interactive opportunities."Joshua:

Pachter is delusional if he thinks there will be a "marginal" upgrade.
With both systems and all that RAM, the texture fidelity and physics will make a world of difference over what we have now.
And *gasp*, maybe real resolutions instead all these up-scaled games we seem to have.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Yeah but the leap in general can be harder to perceive, depending on how things are improved.
