What are the odds that Xbone comes up with a prompt saying that Kinect is obstructed if you do cover it?

They may be close to E3, but still have months before the thing ships. I'd say the Kinect is probably here to stay, but some of the other stuff, not so much. It seems like they are trying to cater to devs, media networks, and consumers all in some way with these rumors. Problem is that most of them seem to alienate us, the consumers the most.
I've all but decided I'm going PS4, and going to just wait on the One to what is true/false.
I still can't personally make that decision. Sony hasn't said much actually. I keep getting this sinking feeling they have something negative in their plans as well, especially with their vague answer on used games.

I agree, it's all speculation at this point.

FWIW, I completely understand why the used game thing is a big deal for a lot of people and I think it's terrible for the industries popularity as a whole to rid of it, but I rarely return my played games or pick up used ones. So it probably won't come down to that for me. Thankfully, I don't think either console is going to try and limit it as much as these rumors have let on. I think they know that would take out a huge chunk of their market.

What needs to be done is Sony and Microsoft need to set up some kind of revenue sharing with places like Gamestop. If Sony and Microsoft are getting a chunk of the used game sales (which invariably would lead to developers getting money for the sales), everyone can leave happy. I'm not sure what the limitations on this would be, but I think it's possible.

I see that being announced at E3 as well. Sony has not released their full story either, so I would not be surprised if an agreement is in place on the used game front with specific retailers for both. They will hold the cards with the DRM on the consoles, so GameStop will have to deal or lose out to others.

It could record your intimate moments in ur bedroom or living room

FYI, companies like MS and Apple patent scary things all the time...Patents are just protecting their ideas from other people using them. Doesn't mean they're going to go through with anything.

Sony does the same exact stuff. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...ond-hand-games

I have a hard time believing that Microsoft could legally monitor anything via the Kinnect. It seems like there would be privacy issues all over the place. I'm not going to pay Microsoft to monitor me, and I know I'm not the only one. This is all really ridiculous.

It's all scary, EN. I'm generally not worried about my online stuff being tracked - as I don't really care about that kind of stuff - but I wouldn't be able to get over being watched by a camera that someone could theoretically be using to monitor me. It just sucks the fun out of gaming.

The forced install is how they ensure the DRM is active (the one install code for the disc). Makes me wonder how they are doing it as discs are typically pressed and are always the same. Yet for the install to work with the disc there has to be something unique on it. Wonder if it's just a code that's on the disc silk screen. Anyone heard/read how this works?

I don't think there's really anything they can say, with Kinect having to be plugged-in, that will quell peoples fears of being spied on.

You either take their word for it, or not.

Eurogamer: Yep, the stuff on the magic of algorithm and data collection and so on - how are you dealing with people's privacy concerns about that? I mean, presumably you're using anonymous data to improve Kinect over time?

Phil Harrison: Yep. Microsoft has very, very good policies around privacy. We're a leader in the world of privacy, I think you'll find. We take it very seriously. We aren't using Kinect to snoop on anybody at all. We listen for the word 'Xbox on' and then switch on the machine, but we don't transmit personal data in any way, shape or form that could be personally identifiable to you, unless you explicitly opt into that.

Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstmann seems to believe there will be system level settings for Kinect that can be toggle on/off.
