Re: Xbox One
At the reveal event (I believe it was, or some other Sony event) they were talking about uses for the PSEye. They gave a bunch of uses and said those were just what the devs were using it for but it's not mandatory.
Granted, that can change of course but everything I've heard/seen points to it not being required, even if it ships with the PS4.badComment

Wow burns, had no idea, thanks for the info. Definitely going to have to read up on how this works.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Well, the Move is built in (that's what the light sensor thing on the controller is.)

I still think a lot of this is up in the air. Tough to believe PS4 or Xbox One without getting more info that's real. Everyone's killing MS now because they gave more info, whereas Sony kept most stuff to the vest (even the actual console itself) and it's such a nebulous cloud that no one knows.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
Funny thing is, Microsoft doesn't seem to be able to get past the starting point.
- First they have the XBox
- Then they have the XBox 360 (What happens when you do a 360? You end right back at your starting point!)
- Now they have the XBox One (Making it sound like it's really the first one)
I'd call it irony, or whimsical, if it weren't so plain odd. XBox 720 would have been a better name. Or the Infinity since it can span out processes to the cloud supposedly.Comment

To say only gimmicky games are programmed for Kinect is straight borderline trolling at this point.
I know people are pissed because it must be connected in order for the X1 to work, but I mean gimmicky.. Really?

Re: Xbox One
I gotcha...we've just heard/seen so little of the PS4 (which is also what makes these discussions so crazy)...Even most of this stuff we're talking about has yet to be 100% confirmed by MS. Yes, Phil Harrison has done interviews, but when asked for official comment MS did not confirm.

I'm perfectly happy with PC gaming - it's just a bonus to be able to play a lot of the genres (JRPG, Tactics, Sports) that come to consoles which is the only reason I grab one (or both) of them.
I have 2 PS3's plugged in now, with a broken one under my bed. I've had 4 360s and only one of those is still with me sitting next to the broken PS3 stashed away.
My sole problem with the 360 is the Kinect being mandatory. I have zero expectations for the games on the 360 (being that most of the good console exclusives are FPS games, which are infinitely better playing on the PC) and the PS4 is more powerful than the XBone so multi-platform games would get bought on that. I would have liked to buy one just in case there is a game that comes out exclusively that I would enjoy... but there is just too much wrong with the console and the way MS is handling everything for me to support them with my money.
Sony not showing their system at their reveal could honestly be a blessing in disguise for them. MS Showed theirs at a horrible reveal and now have to rely on games at E3 to make a good impression. If Sony can come out (their E3 conference is directly after Microsoft's) and show a great looking console, with good news about it and completely overshadow Microsoft that could tilt the deck this gen even more into their direction.
That, coupled with the fact that the XBone will be nowhere near as popular overseas as the PS4 (just like the 360, but multiplied due to the fact that everything shown at the reveal catered to the US crowd.)
It's gonna be fun to watch, just as all console wars are, when you don't have a horse in the race.

Show me a game that isn't gimmicky for the Kinect. Even Dance Central is a gimmick. It may be a fun game for people, and I'm not saying that Dance games are bad, but they are a gimmick.
I leave you with a direct quote from DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach (talking about motion control)
"There are a lot of gimmicks – people throwing money at us – ‘can you implement support for this quirky control thing’. No, it doesn’t make the game better,” said Bach. “We are extremely open to innovation, but if it’s a gimmick, there’s no point unless it adds value to the player.” Not all alternative control methods were out of bounds, however. The iPhone had proven that touchscreen technology could be implemented well, said Bach. “It adds to the experience, and now everyone is doing it. To us it’s the same with motion control and perceptual gaming in general; if it adds, great. If it’s a gimmick, ignore it.”Last edited by ubernoob; 05-23-2013, 08:01 PM.badComment

Yeah, like I said I may be skipping out on consoles for the future depending on what PS4 brings in the future.

That's part of why I like the Xbox, because the PS3 is a brick right now unless I want to watch a Blu-Ray.
At the same point though I need to be open to either...I'm only doing one system, so just have to let all the announcements come out and see what's there.
I just see all the posts here assuming the PS4 will be perfect, while I think it'll have these same questions whenever Sony's willing to talk.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Since the reveal, has anyone seen any game videos beyond what was shown there for the new One? If so, could please post a link or two?Comment

Re: Xbox One
I will say the new Kinect looks much improved over the original, and doesn't look like it will be the limiting factor anymore. It's now time to deliver something compelling that doesn't involve flailing about and fulfill that potential. The way it reads your heart rate and can now see you in the dark, I think there's some interesting possibilities with survival-horror type games.

Just because people choose not to use, or want to use it doesn't mean it's a gimmick.
There's a market for the device in the 360 community already. The Kinect 2.0 is taking that tech to the next level, so who's to say developer's won't be willing to take advantage of it. And if developers choose not to they don't have toComment

Re: Xbox One
I think Kinect still has potential to enhance games with the controller still being the primary method of control (besides just the obvious voice recognition), but its been just that, potential.

Exactly. This is the out of the box thinking that I really believe some developer's will take a chance on. Imagine a a Create a Player mode, where the Kinect creates you as that player. You are the Main Character
How awesome would it be to see yourself in a game as the main character...Comment
