Ok, well that is much better, they've done a poor job explaining this to their gaming base.

edit: Didn't realize that we were talking about same-system playing.

Also: Those devs don't know anything. They're just hardcore gamers whining.

(now I am sure there are catches for this but...)

Say you get a system (system 1), and you and someone from your family create profiles (profile 1 and 2). You buy a game (such as a hypothetical borderlands 3). You decide to get a 2nd system (system 2). Profile 2 loads their profile on system 2. They install borderlands 3 onto system 2, which they have the rights to play.

Can system link now be played, profile 1 on system 1 and profile 2 on system 2, with having only bought the game a single time?

No. From what I understand, that would require another purchase, which I don't see an issue with (since it would require one right now anyways I think.)

They have though. In order for you to be able to say 'Xbox On', it has to be running and listening at all times. You can't use that great, revolutionary voice controls to turn it on unless it is already on and monitoring your every action.

I'm surprised that Xbox didn't market this as the life saving function. They can limit your gaming time, if your heart rate gets to high stop the game, tell you to get up and exercise. They could make this save old people's life when they fall can can't get up. Just say 'Xbox Help Me' and XBone will save your life.

I wouldnt think so either, but based on what I read:

Any user on a console is an owner of a game bought by a user on the console (this might be where I might be going wrong...maybe other users can play on the system, but aren't technically owners.)

But assuming they are all owners of it...

if anyone can load their profile on another console and get to play for free...assuming the above counts them all as owners that hypothetically would be possible.

This is starting to annoy me. Because if the main buyer is the owner and other users can only "play" on that console, and not load their profile on another console to play....

say dad buys madden, installs, plays. His son timmy logs in, plays, thinks the game is awesome. Wants to bring it to his friend billys place to play. Hey no big deal he can just load his profile on billys machine and they can play? Nope sorry, dad played the game first so he owns it, so he is the only one that can take this game to another console with his profile.

Good thing I and am a good 10 years away before I'd might even be in that situation.

Funny as I said the same thing that Microsoft is taking the Sony approach (PS3) and Sony the Microsoft approach (PS4) this go around. It's easy to see.

As for Microsoft changing. Don't hold your breath. If we've learned anything from Microsoft's history, it's that they will push anything onto users despite negative feedback and take the financial lumps that go with it (they're microsoft, how much can it hurt them?). They've done it with their OS's, and most recently with the whole metro UI which received a ton of negative feedback from the 360 beta users, as well as windows 8 users, and yet here we all are, using it without a choice. That's Microsoft in a nutshell. They believe they know best, and that ain't about to change.

Normally I'd agree, but Windows 8 is actually backtracking now.

Though, it's obvious to see the cash grab that the 360 is and I highly doubt there is even enough time to change anything that is being complained about now.

all accounts don't get ownership of the game, they are just allowed to play the game on that console. So Profile 1 installed the game on console 1 and "links" his gamertag to that game disc. Profile 2 can play that game all he wants as long as it's on console 1, however if Profile 2 moves to console 2, he will no longer have access to that game(for free anyway).

at least that is how I think it'll work based on what was said so far.

Don't be so apathetic people. Things in life never got changed for the better by those who did not question.
I wasn't trying to make it any hardcore versus casual argument - I was speaking more to the overreactions/speculations that are occurring, particularly about the gaming aspect of it. I haven't read most of this thread; at least when it started out it seemed to be mostly about the Xbox One not having a mostly gaming-centric focus for their news conference, and how games can be shared, purchased used, etc. I guess it's now morphed to people being freaked out over the possibility of what the Kinect sensor can do if it's required.

I didn't see it as being so sinister but maybe I'm being naïve. Perhaps Microsoft exhibited hubris in trying to implement too many Minority Report-type features at a time when people don't really want it. I still feel these gaming machines need to do more. I have my PS3 in my living room and if there isn't a good bluray that's come out it can go months without being powered on. I have a ton of games, most of which I've purchased used. So I completely dislike the money grab that appears to be occurring with MS getting ultra-restrictive with the ability to freely pop and play a game anywhere. Nor am I a fan of how "great" cloud computing will be. There's lots I don't like, and I'm obviously not up on as much as many of you are. But what seems to be lost is that we have a situation where one company has shown some of it's cards, while the other has shown even fewer than that. Then again I'm not up on every tweet and media release, so I may be out of step there too.

Much of what's occurring now seems to be speculation. And in many regards I think the overreactions are being exacerbated by the fanbases, with Sony fans having had to play second fiddle after being so dominant in the previous generation. Now I'm seeing all these proclaimations of how great one system will be over the other and we haven't even seen what the PS4 looks like, let alone what they'll choose to do regarding their own games.

I haven't really seen any true overreacting, but between this forum and my guild forum it's pretty much the only two I constantly frequent, so I'm sure I'm missing some.

Look, it's nothing new. Sony was dominant, they got overconfident with the PS3. Microsoft grabbed a foothold with the 360 (and won the US, though worldwide there is no true winner - aside from the Wii, but they don't count.)

You talk about having your PS3 in your living room with a ton of games - then the box DOESN'T need to do more. You may want it to do more, but that's because you aren't playing the games you own.

I do agree that having the boxes do more is nice, but not forcing unneeded and unwanted features on consumers while also telling them that they don't own the physical games they buy as they can't do what they please with them like we can today.
