Well said. It has nothing to do with "casual vs. hardcore", so get off that soap box.

It is valid concerns about rights and privacy.

    The end.

Don't be so apathetic people. Things in life never got changed for the better by those who did not question.

Hardcore gamers imo are selfish - and extremely fickle. Even on this board you see people having fond remembrances of a time when we'd have 3+sports games of every genre to choose from - despite the fact that the market no longer supports that model (other factors contribute of course). Many gamers nowadays expect their titles to all be AAA+ or close to it, or they'll kill it before it even gets a chance to start. Or are happy to see a decent/good title fail, if it wasn't exactly what they wanted. Constant comparisons, so one title must be clearly/definitively better than another similar title.

While I think some of the criticism of the Xbox One is legitimate/warranted, much of the overreaction by hardcore gamers is ridiculous. I can understand looking out for one's best interests, but too often hardcore gamers - especially the extremely hardcore - seem willing to cut off their noses to spite their face. Microsoft said before this press conference that this showing wouldn't be about the games, yet gamers are mad... because they hyped themselves into believing it would be about the games anyway. Or should've been more about the games.

While I dislike the 24hr online requirement (technically my machine's always connected anyway) or Kinect requirement (truth is I've wanted to get one), the only thing I truly hate is the direction Microsoft is taking with used games and the secondary market. But I think that's being driven by the bigger game publishers more than anything, so I figure the PS4 will have something similar in place. The market has evolved and hardcore gamers need to realize that. Last gen while hardcore gamers were obsessing over whether the PS3 or 360 was more powerful, Nintendo came in with the Wii and became an absolute phenomenon. Same with the 1st gen Kinect; hardcore gamers declared it dead on arrival because it wasn't "for them". Everything can't just be about the hardcore gamers' concerns, or these systems will fail imo.
I'm going to respectfully disagree with some points, seeing as how I consider myself one of these "hardcore gamers" and put more than my fair share of time and effort into the industry.

Out of the current gen systems, I have purchased... 5 360s (4 for me, 1 for family), 4 PS3s (all for me) and 3 Wii's (1 for me, 2 for others) to go along with the multiple number of NDS (we have at least 3 in the house and I've given 2 as gifts) and 3DS (currently have 1 in our house, getting another within a month.)

Not bad for a 2 person home. Hardcore gamers aren't the ones complaining about all games being AAA - they support all games that they think play well. Have you seen KickStarter for games recently? Millions and millions of dollars being raised for games to be put out that they think will be fun to play - and NONE of those games are AAA.

Saying the market doesn't support multiple sports titles is false. The market would support multiple sports titles if they were good and fun to play. I'm pretty sure FIFA and PES co existing is still a thing. Indie studios are always backed by the hardcore gamers that want to see more games succeed. If a title coming out should be AAA, then yes we get up in arms when it sucks and rightfully so.

Hardcore gamers never believed this reveal would be about showcasing their games. It was supposed to be about the hardware and such, but you can still explain how that hardware will allow you to do certain things in game without showing a game.

Nothing MS has come out with about the XBone is good for gamers or consumer rights, so why should I (or we) be happy about the reveal and subsequent news?

I'm sorry for wanting my video game system to only have to do one thing well - play video games without BS. Anything else it can do well is just a bonus, but when you shift the focus of a console from being about the games to being a glorified HTPC with more restrictions and less power than your competitor you bet there will be backlash from the gaming crowd.

Your analysis of wanting every game to be AAA is more suited to the brogamer who spends most of his time in call of duty, while only purchasing CoD, Madden, Halo and GTA.

So while in the long run I want Microsoft to succeed in the console market because choice is always a good thing, I do hope the XBone flops because the way they are taking their system is horrible for gamers.

Based on what? If it has similar capabilities as and of the Google TV boxes it will work with pretty much every set top receiver.

Think he is referring to not having a box at all as he may be going direct into a TV for his service and using the tuner in the TV only. If that is the case, no way to pipe that thru the One as it will not have a coax input.

Shoot. I do not have cable either. Is this a confirmed thing or a rumor? Would that mean gaming wouldn't function, all the extra TV stuff, or everything?

Would think you only lose out on any TV features in that case, but the way things are going, it is hard to say for sure.

I didn't post that article, but I did post that they wouldn't be allowed to self-publish earlier. Really bad deal for them, and I feel like MS may indeed change that policy in the near future.

I don't get what Microsoft was doing on this one. I'm not getting why they outlawed self-publishing on their system. They basically handed the entire Indie community to Sony. Blows my mind...

Huh? It's not that I had a 2nd copy for free, it was that xbl didn't require my profile to have an exclusive license to play the title.

From what I am gathering, in order to play the game new/used it has to be licensed to your profile. Therefore any person who plays that game w/ you has either bought it or paid the fee.

So a game I bought to play w/ my son would now require me to have paid for the game twice so that my son is not essentially 'playing for free'.

Am I understanding this correctly, or are you not understanding this?

I think he's assuming you're talking about on separate consoles because they have already confirmed that everyone on the same console can play any game that a profile has the license for. And that you can play that game on other consoles so long as you load your profile.

anybody on the same console can play the game with their profile (through family settings I believe) which would be fine for playing at separate times. If you were playing co-op together, your profile would be playing it anyways so anybody else could play with you.
