Re: Xbox One
The whole Kinect feature is quite odd and freaky, if the rumors are true. I'm also not real comfortable with the Xbox One always being on. I'm not really a paranoid conspiracy theorist, but if I were to buy Xbox's next-gen console, I might be tempted to simply unplug the console when I'm not using it.
I know that this sort of thing is the future and there's really no getting around it, but I'd like to salvage some of my present privacy while I can. The whole thing is almost reminiscent of the telescreens from 1984.
For my gaming needs, Kinect is completely useless. At this point, I am almost sure that I will not be purchasing an Xbox One and, as a past (largely satisfied) consumer of the Xbox and Xbox 360, it makes me sad. I may not buy a next-gen console at all as PC gaming is making me plenty satisfied these days as "gaming" consoles move further and further away from gaming.Last edited by superjames1992; 05-25-2013, 04:20 AM.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Won't be surprised if you get prompt with a message something along the lines about it can't sense something. Remember the Kinect is used for more than playing games, if you just want to use the XO for playing games then you might as well get a PS4.Comment

I think I am going to stick w/ the 360 for awhile. I have read the game informer newsletter that confirms that I will have to a fee for a game that I want to play w/ my son. So if I buy a lego game, I will essentially need to buy two or pay a fee so that we both can play.
I am appalled by this. In the grand scheme, I don't care about fantasy sports integration or instant switching. I have a tablet pc I can check my fantasy scores on, and switching from input 1 to input 2 via my tv remote is a few seconds longer than the instant switching .... big whoopdy friggin do.
MS is just trying to rake the gaming population over the coals to increase their revenue stream since their other ventures are not as succesful anymore.
I love my xbox gamertag and achievements, but as it stands what news is coming out has me very dismayed about the new MS console.
Plus some tech guys I know are telling me that the PS4 will be the better device from a power/tech perspective.Last edited by JBH3; 05-25-2013, 08:46 AM.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Microsoft Blames Gaming Media For Xbox One Consumer Rage?
I've always maintained that I was purchasing both consoles either way (much like I have both a 360 & PS3 now). But I suspect that most of my games purchased & played may end up being on PS4 in the future.
We'll see what transpires between both companies down the road as it gets closer to launch but that is how I'm feeling right now. I'm sure the 360 will continue to be a viable console for quite some time either way and I definitely love gaming on that console.Comment

I enjoyed that article. I'm not a fan at all of gaming media sites (at least the big ones, like IGN, GameSpot and those of that ilk.)
However, Microsoft blaming them for consumer outrage is asinine. Nothing they are doing with their box is good for the core gaming audience. Nothing.
The ps4 is more powerful, doesn't do BS checks and actually seems to care about it's audience that wants their console to be mainly about the games.
Not to mention the fact that Sony has never basically called me a puppet without the ability to critically think for myself.
Seriously, Microsoft, gamers hatred the reveal because none of the news there was good for them; not because done website told them how to think. Blaming others isn't the mature or intelligent way to handle things.badComment

Re: Xbox One
I saw this said on another gaming board and it sums up my feelings on the issue perfectly:
Because the "hardcore gamer" is pretty selfish. They dont care about the !@##$ that doesnt or wont translate into as many games as possible. Even if this !@#$ is the very thing that might be helping to keep their hobby relevant.
While I think some of the criticism of the Xbox One is legitimate/warranted, much of the overreaction by hardcore gamers is ridiculous. I can understand looking out for one's best interests, but too often hardcore gamers - especially the extremely hardcore - seem willing to cut off their noses to spite their face. Microsoft said before this press conference that this showing wouldn't be about the games, yet gamers are mad... because they hyped themselves into believing it would be about the games anyway. Or should've been more about the games.
While I dislike the 24hr online requirement (technically my machine's always connected anyway) or Kinect requirement (truth is I've wanted to get one), the only thing I truly hate is the direction Microsoft is taking with used games and the secondary market. But I think that's being driven by the bigger game publishers more than anything, so I figure the PS4 will have something similar in place. The market has evolved and hardcore gamers need to realize that. Last gen while hardcore gamers were obsessing over whether the PS3 or 360 was more powerful, Nintendo came in with the Wii and became an absolute phenomenon. Same with the 1st gen Kinect; hardcore gamers declared it dead on arrival because it wasn't "for them". Everything can't just be about the hardcore gamers' concerns, or these systems will fail imo.HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

The Kinect is sounding creepier by the day. It's all virtually rumor-based right now, but the biorhythms, the tracking of number of people in a room, the tracking of who specifically is in the room, always having to be on... that's just flat out intrusive and bizarre to me, gamer or not.
I feel the collection of concerns regarding the XBox One seems to go well beyond the demands or inability to adapt by hardcore gamers. If Microsoft were to come out and say, "All that stuff about the Kinect always being on and tracking your body in order to play is not true and whether you have it connected is completely up to you", I think virtually everyone would sigh in relief, not just the hardcores.Comment
