Basically I normally buy multiples of each systems, they don't have to "win me over." MS has completely lost me with the route they are taking now because none of the extras do anything for me and supporting the precedents they are setting is something I won't do.

It's not about what Sony hasn't done. It's about what Microsoft has. I don't need Skype. I don't need "instant window flipping." I don't need NFL exclusives. I don't want a Kinect.

I'm so against the XBone because I am just extremely disappointed in the direction things are going. Anyone who knows me knows that video games and technology are pretty much "my thing" and I have never been so disappointed in a console before release.
I see where you're coming from. For me the Skype stuff seems awesome. We skype fairly regularly with my wife's Dad and his family, her Mom and her family there, etc. We use the iPad now which works, but the Kinect/Skype system of Xbox One sounds awesome for that. Both of us can sit on the couch and people can easily see us. Opening Christmas presents works well for that, etc.

I totally can see why consoles moving in this direction would get to you...

      Re: Xbox One

As fun as it was to chat with Davidson about all of the fun stuff, I had to ask him about some of the day's unfolding controversies. First, I asked about used games, and received this somewhat cautious response: "Here's what I can tell you. We'll support used games, so if you buy a game and re-sell it to EB Games, you can go buy a used game and it will absolutely work on Xbox One. Regarding usage rights and pass-on and all of those things: E3. It's very gamer news focused, so you'll see that at E3."

I also asked about the Xbox One's rumoured requirement to be online at all times. "It is internet-required, basically, but we won't disable your console if your internet goes out," Davidson explained. "So if you're playing a game, especially if it's a single-player offline game, or you're watching a Blu-ray or DVD, or you're watching content you already downloaded, any offline experience that you would assume will work. That said, the majority of the experiences really are cloud-powered."

Both of these answers were a little vague, and rumours have been running wild for the past week about exactly what the always-online and second-hand games situations really are. I suspect, like so many other things in this interview, we'll have to wait two weeks for E3 to find out more.
Not exactly what people want to hear, but I thought I'd share the article. Davidson did say there's gonna be an announcement on additional values beeing added to the Gold Subscription of XBL. Man all this buzz lesading up to E3 is killing me

Yeah, that's one thing I hope they copy from PS Plus. PSN sucked hard for so long, but Sony did a good job in bringing it back with better value.

i was watching Mtv2 this morning and across the bottom of the screen it said that Microsoft would not be charging to play used games on he Xbone.

take it for whatever its worth, just reporting what i saw.
"on hoping there is a PSN flash sale before Valentine's Day"
Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
I'm sure there's plenty of prostitutes you could pay if you really want vd.
yea but will they take psn cards
Depends on what area of a hooker you would use to redeem them.

Same. It comes down to games. Zelda / Mario / Metroid for WiiU, then I'll buy. It's why I probably won't own an XBox. Halo, Gears of War, etc are all FPS which don't interest me.

                  Re: Xbox One

People are taking this conference so out of hand its amazing. I'm going to try to do the best I can to break down what I saw from this Conference and how I think people are blowing it out of proportion

Let me start by saying, I work in retail and the day of the conference I was at work. During that time frame I went on lunch so I could watch the conference in the break room. During that time frame, there were 2 ladies who were in their mid twenties, a thirty-five year old lady as well as a 19 year old gentleman in the break room. I had the conference on and every single one of them was blown away, now these people aren't "gamers" and they thought everything the console was shown doing to be amazing.

With being a "gamer" myself, I thought the conference was fine, they were hitting their "Target" market in stride. I thought the features announced sounded pretty cool. If anyone here has watched the Bonus round this last week, i thought Alex was spot on, I want one device to control them all.

Its somewhat funny, but the idea of having all of your games stored on the hard-drive and never having to put a disc is a god send. I own the limited editions of Halo 3, Halo Reach and Halo 4 (Yep i'm a Halo fan) and as much as i love their big boxes, I hate having to go through them to get the disc out. Laugh all you want, but there are times where I just turn off my 360 because I don't feel like getting up and sorting through my games to only have to remove a sleeve and then pop open the case and then put in the disc. This having everything stored on the device is pure gold to me at least.

Now the biggest issue I keep hearing from the interwebz is about Used Games. From all the hoopla being tossed around it seems that once the game is installed on the Xbox-One the disc basically becomes useless. I'm pretty sure through all of the interviews and PR statements they talked about used games still be relevant. It seems as if the Xbox-One checks for an internet connection once every 24 hours, I would take that to mean as soon as you turn on the device it checks for a connection and requires it and then does it again in another 24 hours if the console is still running.

Now this check up occurs for various reasons i'm sure, but it also probably checks for "DRM" purposes. Now stay with my here, but what if when you decide to trade in your game, you bring the game to a retailer and they have a device or even a Xbox-One where you sign into your account if you haven't done so already and delete the "Game" from your account, at that point it reactivates the disc and restricts you from playing that game on your Xbox-One unless you re-install the disc or pay full price for the content (aka this is the way it works now without the mandatory installs). From all the hoopla i'm hearing this seems to be the way the system works which isn't any different from the way it is now.

Now you have the conversation of people talking lending their games or borrowing games, If the Installs work like the 360 installs, then your game installs and game saves are two completely different things. So if you want to lend your game to your buddy, uninstall it from your Xbox-One and it reactivates it on the disc and your buddy can borrow it. The thing here is that the disc had a one time use if the game is installed on a device. So once the Xbox-One connections to the internet and checks that this one specific disc is tied to another Xbox, if you try to install it it's going to ask you to remove it from the other Xbox or pay for the game. So the simple solution is to remove the game from the Xbox-One and when the device does it's daily check up it'll know the game has been removed from the Xbox-One and the disc becomes useful again/

                  Solution solved?

What Microsoft should do here is team up with Game-fly or start their own rental service through the Xbox-One. For $20-$40 a month rent 2-3 games for an unlimited amount of time like Gamefly now. For example, I rent 2 games for $25 for an unlimited amount of time and once I beat the game, i delete it from my device which reactivates my install from Game-Fly. It's exactly the way Game-Fly work now but done through Xbox-Live and without the hassle of waiting for the arrivals. For something like this, they would need massive servers but it's just an idea

And of those that you listed watching, how many plan on buying an XBone?

I've seen plenty of things that I think are "cool" but never would I buy them. Nothing else you've said is any different than what XBox fanboy crowd are saying.

Nobody is complaining about the game being stored on the hard drive. They're complaining that as a consumer their rights are being taken from them. Maybe you haven't ever bought (or sold) or know someone that has bought/sold a used game on eBay or Craigslist or anywhere... well, the buyer in those cases would have to pay two fees (one to you for the game, one to M$ for their ****ty system.)

There's much much more to used games than just GameStop.

Yes, but if you can buy and sell the online rights via a MS Shop, you can bypass having to worry about gamestop, craigslist, etc...all while that money goes to the people that brought you the experience.

No one is trying to take away any rights, they are simply trying to keep the revenue in their pockets versus others.

So I become a retailer for them when I want to sell my game? Do I get to set my price or am I forced to sell for what Microsoft says I can?

Thats like Honda saying I can only re-sell my Civic through Honda... and for some reason they get a piece of the resell.

I figured it was only a matter of time before MS and Sony (nintendo?) and the publishers did something about used games. Its still nonsense to me. Their vitriol for Gamestop's used games is ****ing with my money!

I haven't followed any developments since the announcement, but has any thing more been said about the requirement that the Kinect camera be plugged in at all times? If nothing more has been said, I guess the privacy rights people will be out in force soon (if not already). I like the idea of what MS is trying to do, but they need to tread very lightly.

Right, but then the physical disk is worthless which comes back to us not truly owning the game. I don't want to sell my "rights" I want to sell my game.

Video Game (not sure if I should blame the devs/publishers here) take themselves way too seriously, if they think that the used game market hurts them. I don't know of any other commonly used thing where we are told that we can't sell something we bought however we want.
