I will never understand the allure of achievements or your Gamerscore. Seriously. I couldn't care less if your Gamerscore is higher than mine. You could reset mine to zero and I wouldn't even notice or care. I guess that's because I am basically a single-player gamer only and an old fart (47).

Obviously you are correct. I just don't get it and never will.

In WoW I was all about doing achievements - but only because you could get some pretty rare stuff from doing them (and some were HARD.)

On consoles, though? I couldn't care less about trophies/gamerscore - so count this 25 year old in the same boat as you.

I usually use Achievements as an excuse to play the game in a way I normally wouldn't. It's a fun thing for my friends and I to compete in.

Outside of that, they are pretty useless to me though.

You could basically say the same thing about video games themselves. If you beat the game, what have you really done? It's just a personal "achievement," more or less.

I guess we just like being honored with the fact that we accomplished something through the game, and we can show others that we've done it (or at least allow it to be on display). It really does give more life to these games for me.

Disagree with the bold because I don't play video games to beat them. I play them as a fun escape where I don't have to worry about real life for however long I'm playing. The same as watching a movie.

I recently played through Final Fantasy 7 on the PC and SquEnix added achievements to that... it really took away from the game, in my opinion.

I may have finished 70% of all the games I've played since I started gaming. So I certainly don't play to beat them.. or I have ADD...

Funny enough, I actually made a thread about this two years ago:

Achievements and Trophies are stupid, until they start giving out tangible items such as MS points, money, prizes, or discounts I can care less about them.

I think the achievements are nice to have as a checklist of sorts - especially for games with item collection, sidejobs, etc and to open up different ways of playing a game. The "points" don't really matter to me and the story-progression achievements seem pointless to me.

If its not your thing, its not your thing.

                            Achievements and trophies aren't "stupid".

If you win championships in a game you have a trophy case to display and reflect on what you accomplished. Its really no different with actual achievements and trophies. Its a cool way to reflect on your gaming history and compare it with others.

I know I might push some buttons with this comment, I want to preface by saying I'm not talking about everyone but this is how I view the whole gamerscore thing.

I could careless like Quint if my gamerscore stays at 0, it means nothing to me. Honestly I have not looked at my gamer score in years and couldn't even come close to guessing what it is right now.

I feel the gamerscore is for those types of people who need to feel validation. Kinda of how like chicks always want to "hear" you say they are pretty or looking good. Even if they know it they need to "hear it". Same thing with gamerscore.

Now come at me son , its just how I feel about them

I'm 19, play online with my friends all the time, and couldn't give 2 ****s about gamerscore. It doesn't show who's better at the game, more who puts more time into it. It doesn't impress me that someone ran around Rome for 3 hours picking up 200 feathers in Assassin's Creed. Nor does it impress me that someone shot out all the TV's in some random mission in CoD. Most of the time, achievements aren't even normal things just for beating the game, it's all kinds of extra crap you have to do to extend the gameplay. If I can't do it naturally in my run through of the game, it doesn't matter to me.
