I know I know. But these are the same people who go to tournaments, stream the results, and get viewers who may have never seen the game before to go out there and buy it/try it themselves. Last Evo they got 1 million people on stream to watch the Grand Final of UMVC3.

These are the same guys who raised over 3-4 million dollars for the game they like to be represented at EVO (Breast Cancer fundraiser) and in the process garnered renewed interest in Skullgirls to the point where it was possible for the creator to put out a patch for the 360 version that was getting delayed (and who was also able to make a PC version set to come out next year or so).

So while they may not be 100% of the market the influence they have that can make or break a game is very real. That's all I wanted to get across.

But yeah, I took this off-topic

I felt the same way BUT heres where I am at.
where was the loyalty from MS returned?
The always online doesn't bother me but the whole drm/trade games/used games is,IMO, a slap in the face to me and a perk for the game makers.

I do a lot of used games and trade ins towards new purchases etc...
Now I'm limited in ways I feel I shouldn't be. I may grab one down the line after a price drop but only if there's a must play exclusive.

Pretty much how I feel. I gave them 10 years as a loyal customer, what do I get out of that? Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2 free? Force fed Kinect? A cable box inside my gaming system?

I want to play games. I said previously that WiiU could even win me over, but the 3rd party games are really what won me over. That's where I was wowed. Then knowing games like Last of Us will eventually hit the PS4 and how great Infamous looked, it was an easy decision to go PS4 (for now LOL)

Can someone explain this DRM thing to me?

But I agree with you whole heartedly.

            DRM = Digital Rights Management.

It's basically a form of copyright protection. It's their way of combatting piracy. Diablo 3's always online was a form of DRM (had to have a valid account connected to the game at all times to play.) Same goes for Sim City on PC.

Consoles haven't ever had any DRM implemented like this really, as it was fairly easy to pirate. Devs and publishers will whine and cry about piracy but it really isn't costing them that much (especially on consoles) and will come out with this "always online" or the game sharing thing we are now seeing on XBone.

Ah I see, I am assuming the Xbox one will have a relatively oppressive type of DRM while the ps4 will not?

It sounds like the fear is more that its (potentially) on the wrong system rather than it being distributed in the wrong format: FTP.

If so I totally get it. I doubt the xboxone will be popular in any capacity on the tournament scene, specifically the non-giant event scene. But thats an inherent flaw that cant be avoided at this point.

But I still like the FTP format for that style game conceptually. Especially one that is more cult following based versus a AAA following like SF MK and MVC.

Correct. The whole no game rentals thing on XBox.

You can't really re-sell used XBox games anywhere you want (Craigslist and eBay are probably a no-go now for them.) Only to specified retailers and online. It's not like the old system for consoles where "If you got the disc, you can play the game."

I've pre ordered both and when the time comes ill cancel one. But the PS4 is just destroying Microsoft as of right now. Maybe they will change before then but I know the odds are practically zero

I mean you know some parent is gonna buy the Xbox One for Christmas only to find out you can't play the the thing until you do all that bogus stuff. The used game thing is what really got me and not being able to let your friends borrow them.

Yeah, they had to go that route to allow you to play all of your games without a disc, share with family, and play all of your games from any other xbox one just by signing in and installing from the cloud.

They took a risk to try and innovate and in the short term it's probably not going to pay off.

It was a horrible miscalculation. I've never heard anyone complain about having to use a disc. I never heard anyone complain about being able to share games with family or not being able to play games from the cloud.

For some reason, MS thought those things were more important to gamers than used games, rented games and the ability to play games offline. They were really wrong.

I'm in the same boat. I'm leaning towards the PS4 because:
                          - cheaper
                          - Backwards compatible (through streaming)
                          - used games

I think a year from now, the consoles will pretty much be the same price.
Exclusive titles can also mean something to me, but mostly I play games that will be available on both systems.

Right now, I can trade-in both my 360 and PS3, extra controllers and games at Gamestop and get a PS4, with an extra controller and game for free.
                          It's very tempting.

But I think the smart thing to do is wait till next Summer to make a decision. By then, we'll know if there are any issues (YLoD, RRoD), which is cheaper and which library is deeper.
I just don't trust myself to last that long, haha.

I noticed the camera was not mentioned. However, I sort of thought XBox's camera connection was at least partly tied to their tight restrictions on who can play and when. A forced Playstation camera connection would not seem consistent with their current path, but clearly there's no real certainty there at this point.
