    Re: Xbox One

We might see alot of "Cloud Required" nonsense on 3rd party games now and online passes costing way more than ever before; thus a makeshift DRM for the PS4

Games which have the multiplier as the main attraction will just have expensive online passes.

That is if publishers are that brazen to do it. As I finish this thought I guess this is the wrong thread for this? lol

Exactly, it will be built into MSFT's firware/OS.

It would be way too expensive and time consuming to try to even do something similar on the PS4. It will be just the season pass thing more than likely.

        Re: Xbox One

There really isn't much point in arguing it. It's blatantly obvious the difference in the way both developers are using DRM. MS is looking at the ultimate profit end and enforcing a blanket setting with DRM. Sony isn't using it on their own games because they don't care for DRM but they're going to let publishers continue the practice they already used on the PS3 and 360 (EA Season Pass and Etc.) It's a major difference and there isn't anything deceiving about it. Sony never claimed that DRM wouldn't be used by the Publishers, they said it wouldn't be used by Sony. That was common knowledge before E3 even started.
This. Can't really see how you misinterpret this or think people are being deceived. 1st games will not have DRM on PS4, they will leave DRM as optional to their 3rd party developers. Now all the 3rd party developers may go ahead and do just that, but they may not.

Point is, with the Xbox One, theres no optional about it. DRM will be on every game 1st or 3rd party.

It really is that simple. I don't myself or anyone can make it more clear. Theres a reason why people are predicting MS will lose a lot of their hardcore gamers to PS4.

        Advantage = PS4

Will re-evaluate after launch and see if MS changes their tune. If not I'll wait for a decent price drop.

Right on. I'm just disappointed really, as I've been Xbox-only since 2001.

              Re: Xbox One

It would be incredibly dumb for a 3rd party not to have some sort of DRM if they're able to...people will still pay up. It's going to happen.

Sony was just clever in calling it "optional" even though they know what's going to happen...puts the emphasis on the developers.

Either way, MS and Sony are BOTH wrong for this even being a frickin issue.

How is Sony wrong? They aren't doing anything. They dont like drm. MS took the lead and made all games drm.

Same as pc. I can decide whether to get a drm game or not. On XBOX I have no choice.

Sony may know it's going to happen, but they are not choking the air out of their fans, because they left the decision in the hands of their developers.

Try to make it look equal as much as you want, point is, if a developer decides not to put DRM on their game on PS4, guess who is going to look like a genius?

DRM is done via the software not the hardware. What Microsoft will do is have cloud servers authenticate. It will not be done via the hardware

Just imagine a multiplatform game coming out and for one there is insane DRM by default, the other none at all. Its an easy victory.

If you have both consoles no way you buy 3rd party multi games for the Xbox.

I feel Sony is just as wrong because if they truly want nothing to do with DRM they should've said it will 100% not be a part of the PS4...optional or not.

They've left the door open for it...it may not be on the level of MS but its still an insult to gamers IMO...

                            Re: Xbox One

The DRM will be extremely limited, due to it NOT being built into the firmware/OS like it is with the XBox.

It will be nothing more than what it is now with online passes, etc.

There is no firmware infrastructure to support it. And it will be way too taxing and expensive to develop a software emulation. Not to mention, easily cracked.

It turns into a coffee table after 24 hours. Thats the ultimate DRM.

No DRM for 3rd party games may make some developers unhappy. I am sure Sony left it up to them to keep devs happy.
