Sony didn't buy the rights to No Man's Sky. No Man's Sky is coming out on PC, and it also has to do with the flood Hello Games suffered.

As for others... let's just say Sony didn't necessarily sign them to exclusives. There is more than enough hatred of Microsoft in the indie game developer community - rightful or not that's just how it is.

(see: here, here, here, here and many others)

Note: Microsoft is a lot better than it used to be with these things, but that kind of mistreatment/hatred for them isn't something that goes away easy - especially when this is one's own creation and something they have devoted their life to learning/doing.

That, plus the self-publishing fiasco, is one of the reasons you see Sony/PC with more indies than Microsoft. Not because Sony bought them.
No Man Sky is coming out eventually on PC, not at the same time (from what I've read)....I get that it's a smaller company, but Sony's doing the same thing that MS was doing. Why do you think the Dark Souls 2 company's next game is PS4 only when it was multiplatform before? That's a larger company and there's no window to that (as far as I've read). Sony does the same thing MS does, neither is better than the other IMO.

You are 100% right about the indies though, MS has shot themselves in the foot there. I think they're digging out of the hole, but they've made it tougher for the indies to release on Xbox One as well. Agree completely there.

      I've been waiting 13 years, what's a few more.

Gotcha....still think both companies do very similar things. I don't feel they behave as differently as you do. MS probably just isn't in as good a position with these companies so has to pay more to do things.

I really think that Square was in more financial problems so this really helped them out. The first TR did pretty well, but I don't think it made them as much cash as they'd hope. This guarantee from MS will make Square way more money (if it's a lower payment to MS per game, etc) even if it's fewer sales.

We have to remember that these companies wouldn't do these deals if they didn't make financial sense.

I will agree that the exclusive stuff annoys me and it'd be great if there were less exclusives so everyone could play everything. That's a pipe dream though, sadly. I'd love to play No Man's Sky, but probably won't care enough to be limited to playing on my older PC.

They can't help it if you are not interested in the ones they do invest in.

If this were the Playstation 1 days, I'd agree. Sony was a lot more aggressive on third party stuff then.

I'm not saying MS is bad for this deal. Nothing wrong with MS making this deal, it's just ****ty of SquEnix. They're trying to position their console the way they see fit. I just think they've done a very poor job of going about it.

Third party exclusives (that were bought, not necessarily games that got saved by MS/Sony/Nintendo) are dumb, by whatever side is doing it. First party (and second, I guess) are the only games that should be exclusive.

Did I ever say that "everything MS has done is ****"? No. But the good stuff is few and far between.

They have Halo, Gears (which I hate, but I still understand it's a big game) and Forza. Crackdown now as well, since that's making a comeback finally.

Where are more games like Kameo, Lost Odyssey, Viva Pinata, Blue Dragon and Fables that don't do that IP a great injustice?

Look at the list for XBox titles. What (outside of Halo, Gears and Forza) has MS released in the past 4 years that is even worth the disc it's pressed on? You have to go back to 2008 to find a variety of decent games.

Phantom Dust is coming back, that's a good thing. Scalebound is coming, that's a good thing. That one is third party, though.

What about quantum break? Sunset od? Those are a couple big ones coming in the near future. Tomb raider is a sure thing. That's why they made this deal. It's not handcuffing them when it comes to new ips. They have two huge ones coming. Then I'm sure they have plans for the future too. We already know about the black tusk gears , halo and crackdown like you said. You don't need 5 huge ips coming out at the same time. They start fighting each other sales wise that way.

                  Re: Xbox One

Sunset Overdrive isn't a first party IP. Insomniac owns that, and can take future games wherever they want (whether they will or will not.)

Quantum Break we'll see. I don't even know what the hell it is, but normally stuff as ambitious/tied in like that ends up being a pretty bad failure.

Also, nobody said they have to be huge IPs. They just have to be worthwhile. I'd personally love a next-gen sequel to Kameo, Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon. None of those are "huge" IPs, but they all were worthwhile games of something other than shooters/sports.

                    Re: Xbox One

It seems that this more about being upset that Tomb Raider is coming to XB first and not PS4.

Am sure if PS4 got the game first the outcry would be far less loud then it is now and some would just put up gifs of Mortal Kombat executions.

This is a business and Square Innex took a big payday to give the game earlier to XB1. Am sure they got money that would off set a few upset PS4 fans

When it comes out for PS4 they will also get those sales.

Smells like a win win to me.

So barring an Amazon XB1 deal early next week (which I've been hoping for, unsuccessfully, for over a month now), I will be ordering the Madden bundle with my Amazon credit. Just in time for the NHL demo and my upcoming 2 week paternity vacation

I want Kinect, but the Titanfall bundle is sold out. The Forza 5 bundle is available, but I feel that's kind of a waste because I plan on picking up Forza Horizon 2.

Any OS'ers looking to ditch their Kinect? PM me, or I'm headed to eBay for one. (mods: if this is inappropriate, please delete. sorry!)

PS would the preview program fairy please hold onto an invite!

                        C) He didn't say Rare was working on a non-Kinect game. They might be, they might have some ideas for some, but nowhere did he say they were. Hopefully they are, because Rare has went to absolute rubbish the past however many years. Also, remember, most of the people that were there for the creation of the games in their heyday are gone. I know the lead designer now runs his own indie studio.

I'm still rubbed the wrong way about the entire Tomb Raider thing, though. In the end all it does is hurt gamers and owners of every console involved in the fiasco. There's no good way to spin it for consumers.

It was coming out for the XBone. This isn't a game that needed rescuing. MS could have easily put that money towards a new IP, or rescued something, or helped fund smaller games. There would be more games and still the ability to play TR on the console.
Per Rare. I'm starting to give up on them doing anything from the past, primarily because the people who worked on those games are no longer at Rare. I would love a new Banjo and Perfect Dark. But from what I understand those folks are long gone. I do hope that the folks at Rare can create some new magic though.
