Sigh...
The real answer is that any notion how the Xbox One wasn't about gaming was marketing spin and it is spread by console warriors.
If Sony's only chance at superiority is selling so many consoles that publishers have no choice but to ignore the competition, then they lost. Publishers and devs are going to produce multi-platform games look, feel, and pay very similar on both the PS4 and XB1, just like last gen and the gen before that.
There will be a tiny niche of gamers that will pick each release apart and try to find the best version, but mostly, everyone will be equally pleased or displeased with their purchases. Because some console warriors of the PS4 variety are heavily invested in the power of their system of choice, they feel entitled to each game being superior in some way. But that doesn't actually help publishers maximize their sales.
The parity was always going to happen, as long as either console sells enough to be a viable platform. It is always the exclusives that help each console define its strengths.
Personally, it feels like sony favors ultra realistic graphics and style. Microsoft tends to emphasize gameplay. There are exception on both sides.
I'm plenty happy with my XB1 from a games point of view. Forza Horizon 2 is one of my all-time favorite racers, and I would put it on a short list for game of the year. I have more games than I have time to play, 250 friends on my friends list, and the console feels like a next gen console in so many ways.
I think some people get caught up in next gen being about pixels and frame rates. I think it is about how we play games and share our experiences. The activity feed and the way it shares our clips (and how we easily record them), as well as Twitch and Youtube integration hashed this even more social than last gen.
It's cool that people don't care for the TV integration and Kinect. But man, using voice to pause, and mute just feels like how devices like this should work. I'm starting to hate my other devices that lack it. Integrating Youtube, Netflix and Amazon Instant into the TV viewing experience in such a seamless manner is also next gen.
I'm glad PS4 owners love their consoles. I don't know why they feel the need to defend them in this thread, though.
